RESULTS FOR FIRST TWO SEASONS

details below

--------------------------------------------------------

The current anime season is more or less done with, so let's gather the community consensus (lol) on what THE anime of 2016 is. Because naturally ur opinion means nothing and ur taste is shite unless its the popular opinion.

You may nominate up to one anime from each season this year, as in WInter, Spring, Summer, and Fall 2016. Any show that has begun airing in 2016, whether it has already finished or not, is eligible. Note the season we're currently in that's about to end is Fall 2016, and the upcoming season about to begin is Winter 2017 and thus does not count. This results in at most 4 nominations from each person (While not really necessary, do consider typing out at least a sentence or two explaining what you liked about your nominations. It feels a lot less empty to read than just getting a list of four titles with nothing else from a post). Films do not count because Kimi no Na wa is already THE best film of ALL TIME. no films or OVAs, srry

Depending on how many entrants we get we'll either hold a single poll with all the nominations(which is preferable) or we'll hold a seasonal off for each season's nominations (which is a pain in the ass).

Let's say, nominations close on the 10th of this month.

Definitely nominating Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu from Winter. Absolutely phenomenal show (season 2 coming very soon, get hyped), definitely anime of the season (sorry ERASED, you almost had it up until the end). It's a shame KonoSuba is in the same season because it's also an incredible comedy.

From Spring I'm nominating Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge. Just such a nice, chill, absolutely hilarious show.

From Summer I'm nominating 91 Days. I felt it was a very strong mafia drama with a good story and cool characters. The ending was open-ended and ambiguous which I'm not sure I like or not, but I thought such an ending was fitting for the show and done well.

For Fall I gotta go with Haikyuu!!: Karasuno High School VS Shiratorizawa Academy. Great animation and action as usual for the series, get to see all the favorite characters in action plus several new ones, and of course it's hype as sheet.

Time for my own entries

Winter: Agreed with Shradow. Rakugo was the best but holy sheet Konosuba is so close.

Spring: Jojo began airing here so I count it as a Spring anime.

Summer: Mob Psycho. Best animation of the year, best OP of the season, and the story is just really maturely written. It's lovely.

Fall: I was really excited over a lot of shows but by the end the one that remained the most entertaining throughout was Ping Pong Girls. Had a fairly okay first episode but the third episode made me feel more excited than anything else this entire year. The animation's great, the mostly-one-dimensional cast is great, and the matches and emotional development during each game is just really amazing overall and it has a lot of sweaty girls, can't beat that. Haikyuu is close but Shiratorizawa and Ushiwaka just doesn't have the same charm as Oikawa.

> nominations close on the 10th of this month

i have arrived

Winter: Ajin (But someone better funking nominate Grimgar) is basically a good hollywood action film with excellent pacing, great action and plot twists, an excellent villain, a complicated main character and really only suffers from the fact they used CGI. If you haven't checked it out, seasons 1 and 2 are available for you to binge now on Netflix.

Spring: Bungou Stray Dogs. All the characters are Japanese writers and they have special powers that are based on the titles of their novels. Also the villains in Season 2 are all american writers led by a man who has the power "The Great Fitzgerald." I'll give you one guess who it is.

Summer: Zestiria (Though someone should nominate Orange or This Art Club Has a Problem!) Super pretty animation since it got that ufotable money. There are like 3 episodes in the middle of the season that are completely irrelevant to the plot and don't include any of the characters for some reason but the rest is great. Also Mikleo and Sorey make my heart burst.

Fall: Magical Girl Raising Project. Other pplz nominated Yuri on Ice and Drifters so here's the show about Magical Girls told that at least half of them need to die and they should probably handle it themselves. You can imagine how that goes.

Fall: Magical Girl Raising Project

Did this actually turn out any good? I dropped it after the first episode.

Winter: Ajin (But someone better funking nominate Grimgar)

Summer: Zestiria (Though someone should nominate Orange or This Art Club Has a Problem!)

And I agree, someone should absolutely nominate Grimgar, it got so funking good. Winter just had a lot of awesome stuff. Konobi was really funny, too.

I haven't finished MGRP yet, but it seems cool and everyone who's watched it has said it gets real crazy.

The Winter season was so good that I'm pretty sure 4 out of my top 5 anime of this year were all from that season.

The Winter season was so good that I didn't even consider nominating Akagami no Shirayukihime for that slot.

Can we expand this to include multiple categories? Might be a bit too late but yeah. Would be pretty small without that imo but I guess we shouldn't go with too much details.

Winter: Nothing, the two good shows has already been nominated.

Spring: Space Patrol Luluco

Summer: Binan Koukou Chikyuu Bouei-bu LOVE! LOVE!

Fall: Flip Flappers.

All of my primary nominations have been nominated already so I guess I'll add more names into the pool.

Okay it was more like 4 out of the top 6

1. Ajin

2. Yuri on Ice

3. Durarara

4. Grimgar

5. Drifters

6. Erased

But I still need to finish a sheet ton of shows like Boku no Hero, Mob Psycho, etc. Also I somehow feel 33 episodes behind on Haikyuu and I don't know what happened.

In that case you should do us all a favor and nominate Grimgar :'D

Holy sheet S3 was so funking good, dude. Legit gave it a 10/10.

If the other recent nominations are accepted (past the deadline), I'd like to add these:

  • Twin Star Exorcists for Spring
  • Sound! Euphonium 2 for Fall

Though there are other nominations I could make, my favorites from Winter and Summer are already here. I feel that for deciding the "anime of the year," I should not nominate one that wasn't my favorite of its season, so even if it is Senpai's request I won't add any other nominations.

I realize that request was already fulfilled at the time of posting this, but I'm still going to say that after having typed it all.

My vote for Winter to go Rakugo because it was just such a fantastic period drama, and I loved the actual rakugo as well.

For Spring I'm voting for Tanaka-kun. It was incredibly chill but way funnier than I ever expected. The characters were so good and the comedy felt really unique.

Both of them being my nominations, but I suppose that's to be expected.

Bungou's S1 was kind of a mess tbh, but S2 is hella solid.

Voted for Rakugo and Jojo. The voice acting, visual direction, and how it all ties to how the show conveys the story is amazing. Like, it's a story about storytellers that employs a lot of the storytelling techniques to make the story feels more alive. The anime was as much of a storyteller as the characters in the show itself.

Jojo is generally really solid and was a really good adaptation of the manga, even can be said that it enhances the source material.
