They're not at all important, other then an imaginary number that means nothing. The message is usually much more noteworthy and important then anything. Seriously though, reps do not matter in quantity, nor in exchangability, but matter in striving. You cannot say that new members do not care about their reputation, at all. They care about it, for it shows who has noticed, and cared about deeds they've done. It's positive reinforcement, which is always important. It provides something that attributes to this forums popularity sometimes, saying, "This rep must dignify my acceptance! Horrah! This means someone might want me to post more!" Reps are important. Second of all, I always do my best to bend the rules and defy the mods as frequently as possible since I'm a teenage rebel who complains about stuff that doesn't even need to be complained about, like the rep system.
