Wizarus
Is 1000 LP really that big of a deal considering it's speed? Or is it better just to run Jar of Greed, which doesn't have a cost, but is slower in comparison? Discuss. Edit: Changed Jar of Greed into Legacy of Yata-Garasu
burnpsy
Outside of Exodia/CureBurn, run neither. In one of those, run CureBurn - if you have to use Jar, remove it and replace it with Legacy of Yata.

Hydra of Ages
Upstart is practically a 37 card deck in Deck Types that don't care about opponent's LP. Jar is... I've actually never seen Jar seriously played. Therefor, Upstart is better.
Dark_Armed_Zombie
Upstart is better, but it's only used it certain decks, Cureburn and Exodia decks have already been mentioned.
Wizarus
I was thinking on how Upstart Goblin might be competitive in decks that rely on reducing your opponents LP to 0 through battle. If the deck can swarm with powerful monsters like REDMD decks can, would 1000LP really be an issue?

Of course, with Hopeless decks they have Trade In/Allure. But I try not to include other draw engines, to keep myself from making the assumption that all decks have access to Allure/Trade In. -Berserker-
I'll use Legacy if I'm playing against VK.
Sleepy
Upstart Goblin gives your opponent Life, but doesn't make you wait 1 turn to use another one if you draw it, like it is the case with Legacy/Jar. Also: Upstart Goblin has Tempest OTK on its side.

Sleepy
That's just about right^ If Cathedral of Nobles was part of the TCG, Legal, and even unlimited, you would see more Jar of Greed and Legacy of Yata running around, and even Good Gobling House Keeping [/probably]
Great Unclean One: VK
Legacy at least has a change of doing moar since we all know 1 guy who uses spirits....Noah.
Sephiroth_The_Legend
upstart because it's a spell, therefore instantly faster.the lp cost is minor at best.considering the amount of damage that is possibly in the current meta in 1 turn. BehindTheMask
Yata. Battle Phase plays with Trago are pro(Thanks to Fraz for seeing the usefulness of this. I love playing this now).
Manjoume Thunder
Yata. Battle Phase plays with Trago are pro(Thanks to Fraz for seeing the usefulness of this. I love playing this now). The better play is to bait S/Ts with it :P Yata is way better. Upstart only works in some random ZOMG TURBO OTK builds and we all know that ZOMG TURBO OTK builds fail. RyanAtlus
Upstart has done miracles in Countdown! ^^Especially with Frozen Soul...
werewolfjedi
I would run L-yata, since you can use it for kill bait.
