Lore: If this card is in the Graveyard, you can activate its effect by selecting 1 face-up Level 5 or higher monster you control. Reduce that monster's Level by 1. Special Summon this card from the Graveyard. This card cannot be Tributed except for a Tribute Summon.

When I was trying a Monarch deck for the first time, this card caught my eye. Along side stealing levels from Metal Reflect Slime and other Monarchs, it did help bring out the Tributes needed.

Discuss Level Eater and its ability to offer necessary tributes for monsters that have effects that require to be Normal/Tribute summoned or monsters that cannot be Special Summoned.

Uses:

Synchros

Powerful monsters that are a pain in the neck to summon

Monarchs

Defectives:

Costs one monster to summon

Uses a cards to get backs the cards used for the effect.

[spoiler=Card Math]So say to have 5 monsters on your field:

-1 (say... Summoned Skull) for a 600 ATK monster. Then you take damage (-100 LP at least) then you can tribute a poewrful but hard to summoned monster (-1) for it to loose 1 star. Then you get the Lever Eater back. (+1) then a Monster Reincarnation for the monster that has -1 star.

So...

You get +0 from all of that.

2/5

It doesn't cost a monster to summon x.o it costs 1 Level of that monster. The monster it stole the level from isn't destroyed or anything. Since its used from the Graveyard and doesn't cost you any cards on the field or hand, using its effect is a +1.

Also implied that you'd -1 yourself for a level 5/6 monster, which you wouldn't. You'd use something like BKB, Fussy Dragon, or a +0 Summon or a Synchro, probably, or a Monarch which is a +0/1 to Summon anyway.

And why would you be taking damage anyway?

That whole card math section made no sense.

Either way, it's fun tech, I like teching it all over the place when space shows itself.

Somehow I think he's thinking that its required to tribute a level 5/6 monster to get it on the field from the hand... then for some reason ramming Level Eater into another monster to get it in the Graveyard... from there, summoning another level 5+ monster so he can use its effect to bring it back onto the field from the Graveyard.. then using Monster Recovery to get the original monster he destroyed back to his hand so he can Tribute Summon it...

That giant loop doesn't accomplish anything but get the monster back onto the field that he originally had...

Of course, in order for him to think that, he'd have had to misunderstand Level Eater's effect >_> either way, if it was what he thought, its kinda amusing.
