Shall I explain my reasoning?

Card games are meant to be separate, so you and your opponent can see every card. Yu-Gi-Oh was never intended to be a stacking game. You'd basically have a mini deck beneath your monster like this, and for absolutely no reasons except for game-play. If people play with Duel Disks, one wouldn't be able to fit six cards onto a single monster slot. This is in real life, mind you.

I can think of two other reasons, but I'm too lazy to type them down.

You don't understand how it works do you?

You could easily reveal part of the card while still keeping it "under" the Excess monster.

People who play with Duel Disks are a very, very small minority and catering specifically to them would be idiotic. Yes, this is in real life.

Feel free to share your other reasons; right now, your username is coming off as very appropriate.

So, the overlaid cards appear in the holograms under the hologram of the Exceed monster? This will lead to OH SO MUCH rule 34... ;)

Are you talking about how the mechanic might look like in the Anime? If so, I thought of it as the Overlaid Monsters just standing behind the Excess Monster, which then like, go in front of the Excess Monster if it would use it's effect / get removed from the field, thus saving it from being well, removed from the field.

It's the Aeroshark pic what makes me think that...

The Gods of the series will be Level 10, gains points equal to the combined ATK of its overlaid cards, the ability to attack directly, nuke the field, download songs to your mp3 player, AND help you to save up to 15% on your car insurance. [/broken]

OT:Union monsters are now out of date.

Interesting mechanic. What happens to the overlaid if Book of Moon is used in an Excess Monster?
Also, if you use 2 or more Excess Monsters as materials for an Excess Monster's Summon, would the overlaid monsters in the overlaid Excess Monsters stay on the field?

Its like regular semi-nomi monsters, except Konami decided to make them a new game mechanic to save themselves from writing all those rulings into every Excess' lore.

lolcard ideas:

For Tokens:
Normal Spell
Select 1 Excess Monster with no Overlaid Monsters on it. Overlay 2 or more monsters with the same Level and a Level equal to the Excess Monster's Level your opponent controls under target monster Excess Monster

Quick Play Spell
Select 1 Excess Monster on the field. During this turn, all monsters overlaid in that monster can declare an attack.

can some make a few of the exceed and excess cards so with the lore its just easyier for people (like me for example)

Which is why you can go to Realistic Cards, which has a stickied thread about the new Excess Monsters, along with mechanics. Adding the whole mechanics onto the cards would make the lore squish so small, it'd hurt the eyes, and if you mean not on the cards but in the thread, it's unneeded.. Sure it can help, but it isn't that hard to just go to this thread to see the mechanics for them.

the question though what part of the summoning is excessive? when you look up at the word excess meaning over the limit in degree. but i guess the overlaid part they wanted to be like the duel master's evolution but if so maybe it should evolve summoning then with the overlaid part. imagine if they were to include Jinzo and its second form as evolving part. but the question would be what would happen if the monster with overlaid cards were to be destroy. so let see what this so called "excess" would mean to the summoning.

Am so gunna call this when they come out.

Excess Draw
Spell
Discard 1 Excess monster, draw 2 cards.
No, it would be more like:
"Select 1 Excess monster you control and send 1 monster overlayed on it to the Graveyard. Draw 2 cards."
