1. A cardboard hero who remains static for 185 episodes as opposed to a hero that grows with the viewer like in GX.
2. A cardboard hero who's dialogue consists of shouting stupid commands and ritualistic chants to play trading cards.
3. A cardboard hero who needs a specific emotion to play a trading card.
4. A cardboard hero who wills new cards to pop into his Extra Deck, and has a dragon god place a winning card on top of his deck (and people call Jaden a cheater.)
5. Stupid, overused memes like NEXUS!!!!!!!!
6. A female lead who is the only character interesting character in season 1, and becomes a cardboard character whose only role is to be hero's love interest in season 2.
7. Lame, overrated "Synchro chants"
8. Emphasis on previously mentioned stupid memes to distract viewers from the fact that the story is lame, and the characters are dull.
9. Sub-plots that go nowhere.

For all of GX's faults, it's strength lies in it's characters. GX is the only Yugioh series to have the character grow as people during it's run like it did. Also, Chazz Princeton invalidates all arguments.

I'll concede some points, but it's mostly a matter of preference. I liked all the Yugioh series so far, but 5Ds was my favorite. Maybe it's because I watched it subbed, unlike the other two, and the subbed 5Ds was such a MASSIVE step up from DM/GX dubs that it stuck in my mind. Or it's because I joined this site and had more people with common interests to discuss cards and the series with.

I don't hate GX, but I tend to believe that most people view a series better in retrospect than when it first aired. Although I absolutely adored Jaden's character development and the deconstruction of a Yugioh protagonist and how life-wagering duels has a psychological impact, I also found some aspects of GX to be tedious and boring, and very little of the supporting cast I actually liked.

And yes 5D's would have been 100% better if they have just not ruined every single moment most fans were asking for:
- Mostly Faithshipping (JackxCarly - AkixYusei - MikagexUshio).
- Given Jack the posibility of Beating Yusei in the last episode.
- Some more important Screentime for Aki, Rua and Ruka. Avoiding Character degradement
- Less irrelevant Fillers...whatever...

At least concepts where good at the first times...sadly they were being dragged down in the development...

For some of us, waiting 100 or so episodes for it to get better is "waiting too long" Dx
WTH were they thinking when they put a bunch of random episodes as the initial appeal (like dueling against a monkey, or dueling to recover a sandwich).
That said, I still watched season 4 and part of season 3 and think it became decent, but the Mr. T. Duels (between other things) except where he used F.G.D. were .... bad.... and Darkness is an enemy I did not get very well...

Well, quoting aside. My opinion on the series is; all of them had good parts, and all of them messed up once they got a decent audience.

-DM was primitive but entertaining. Except for its non-Orichalcos fillers (IMO)
-GX was terrible half of its seasons but became better. Not to mention it must have been pretty much an experiment because they wouldn't rather keep exploiting Atem and Yugi with yet another filler or imaginary Ark after the end. At least Judai was the coolest one in the anniversary movie.
-5Ds was promising at first. Season 1 was too serious but I liked it. Season 2 (contrary to what some people say) disappointed me. It was developing just fine until all Dark Signers appeared out of nowhere for their final Duel, together like they had to rush to end the Arch; The monkey guy didn't have a backstory at all (I think they mention his name somewhere); Yusei started getting way more forced sreentime than the rest; Divine looked like a potential future boss but died stupidly; Jack is trolling Carly because he DOES remember everything. Team Unicorn and Team New World's Duels ended up badly too. Aki was completely ruined from season 2 onward, Ruka never did anything in the series, and Crow should have died back then. To top it all, it is true that Yusei never grows enough (he.. kind of.. does?).
-Zexal looks like the most promising so far. I want the show to keep developing like it is so far. The main character started weaker than any other and might become better than any other as well. Its sort of like a re-do of DM actually, but with some updates. Still one can only expect.
