Tori sighed in disappointment, placing her hands in her hoodie's pockets, dejected. Not only not having anything to eat or drink, but the adorable armored dragon doesn't want to rest in her arms? To her, this seemed like it was going to be LOOONG...whatever "this" was. "Well, then, I guess we should get moving. They should have food in this city as well, and we can also find supplies there as well." She motions for him to lead the way. "I'm not good at leading...I prefer to follow...It's...safer that way..." Again, this raised questions as to why she preferred this, and, more importantly, who she was.

"You're going the same way?" Marcus wondered. He seemed perfectly accepting of the role of leader, as he already began walking in the same direction he had been before she stumbled onto his path.

"Why does everyone want to visit the HEROs?" Arma-san complained, shaking his head, but trudging loyally alongside Marcus. Even so, he turned partway to watch Tori. "So what have you been doing here?" he wondered. "Did you just get here? But you don't have a Spirit with you, so maybe it got lost. Any idea what your Spirit would be?"

Marcus chuckled, recognizing the bombardment of questions as the dragon's method of talking a lot in a short span of time.

Tori walked alongside the two, but trailed just slightly behind. She turned her head to the duo. "I do not want to visit the HEROs. In fact, I dislike the Archetype, but, logically, this city should have what we need: food, water, shelter, other humans. I arrived here several hours ago, presumably like you two did. I never had a Spirit, and I hope I eventually gain one. And I have no idea what my Spirit would be." She then asked the two. "So, where are you two from? Obviously, since you have an Armed Dragon with you, your Deck has something to do with Dragons and/or Level Monsters, yes? And when did you get to the Spirit World, Marcus?

"Aww, I wanted to override his vote," Arma sighed. Marcus smirked, but it vanished when she turned the questioning to him.

He scratched the back of his head. "Uh...maybe an hour or so ago? It's hard to keep track of time."

Arma-san frowned. "That's usually a coincidence, the whole decks and Spirit thing. A lot of coincidences." He paused, reassessing his claim, but shrugging it off without any sort of correction or elaboration. Fact was, he hadn't the slightest idea how certain spirits were chosen for certain people, but had chalked it up to coincidence.

She stopped, a bit confused, but she walked ahead several feet before turning on her heel and assuming a stance that was familiar to everyone in the world that played Duel Monsters: the stance of a duelist. "Well, since you aren't going to tell me outright what your Deck looks like, I figure I can find out myself by dueling you!" She reached up to take her hood off, revealing that her eyes, which had been like a deer in the headlights of an oncoming car, scared and helpless, now had a steely determination behind them that looked somewhat recognizable, like they had been seen before on a famous duelist, but the name wasn't easily recallable...

Marcus blinked, the sudden abruptness of the challenge catching him completely off-guard. Arma-san's eyes lit up. "Ooh, do it! Accept it!" he urged energetically. The human chuckled a bit awkwardly.

"Well...I guess it couldn't hurt, but I thought you were hungry," he noted. "Wouldn't being hungry be distracting, to the point of affecting performance?" he wondered. It wasn't that he was trying to slip out of the challenge so much as it just seemed like an odd course of action, to stop all travel in favor of a duel.

Ella screamed in pain as she felt a full body-blow to the stomach and sprawled to the ground. She slowly got up, struggling to stop herself from falling over and fainting again. She couldn't fight any more. Not like this.

Tori stands strong, still ready to duel. "If we are going to be traveling together, I need to see how strong you really are, as well as what kind of Deck you use, so we can best work together. Besides, I've been itching for a duel anyways." Apparently, her lack of food or water was not an issue, at least not anymore. "Now, do you want to do first, or shall I?"

Meanwhile, in the depths of HERO City, something stirred, and prepared to strike. A few days ago, the Inzektor Squad went into the sewers, and provided the perfect base for the monsters that were multiplying within the city's underworld. Subways were disappearing as innocent spirits were consumed. Soon, even the HEROs would be forced to intervene, and that would be when HERO City would fall to an ancient evil reborn anew...

"Hmm...all right then," Marcus said, with a slight shrug. He fiddled with his belongings a second, withdrawing his Deck from his pocket, doing a rapid card count to ensure they were all there. After a moment, he paused. He hadn't brought a Duel Disk when he arrived here, and had nothing nearby to serve as one. "One second, one sec," he said, looking at Arma-san inquisitively.

"What?"

"I don't have a Duel Disk," Marcus pointed out.

"Huh, that's sad," Arma-san said blankly, not getting the point of the statement. "I guess Ancient Fairy Dragon didn't give everyone good enough warning. Least you got the Deck!" he added brightly.

"So how am I supposed to Duel?" Marcus wondered, a bit flustered.

"Dunno," Arma-san said with a shrug. "We don't normally use trading cards to fight our battles here. Just sayin'."

"Great," Marcus sighed. "Aren't you here to help me somehow?"

"I'm not a magician, I'm a dragon!" Arma-san complained. "I can't just conjure something out of thin air with a puff of smoke!" To demonstrate, he spat a glob of fire into the air. There was a flash, and a small device appeared in the air where the fireball had dissolved, which dropped to the ground with a thump. Arma-san just stared at it, his jaw slightly open.

Marcus blinked and picked up the device, studying it carefully. It was similar in design to a Duel Disk, although not nearly as fancy or complex. In fact, it looked like the barest skeleton of the device he had ever seen. He hesitantly placed his Deck in the slot he assumed was a Deck slot, jumping slightly as the cards shuffled, yet no technology seemed evident.

"What the hell?" Marcus wondered aloud.

Arma-san grinned smugly, crossing his arms. "I am so awesome, it hurts."

"So who starts this thing?" he asked, at last turning back to Tori.

"Challenger goes first!" Arma-san said brightly.

"Okay, then I guess I've been elected," Marcus said. He flicked several cards from the Deck to his hand, then drew one more. "I draw!"

His gaze flicked over the cards in hand, settling on several key cards among the group. "I'll keep this simple, and Set a monster and one card in the backrow. Turn End."

There was an awkward pause as he placed the cards on the Disk, half-expecting nothing to happen, but to his surprise, a horizontal card appeared, following by a vertical card behind it.

Tori watched in wonder as the strange Duel Disk formed, but she drew her card after Marcus took his turn. "I draw, and I Normal Summon Power Breaker in Attack Mode!" A strange maniacal-looking muscular warrior with orange hair done up in a ponytail, a fur coat around his shoulders, and two axe blades, one on either arm, equipped to his arms like gauntlets stormed into play. (1900 ATK|LV4) "Now, I activate Double Summon, giving me an additional Normal Summon, allowing me to pull out Lancer Archfiend!" Now, a strange skeletal, purple-armored knight that had bladed lances for lower arms appeared next to the crazy warrior. (1600 ATK|LV4) "I'll go to my Battle Phase, and attack with Power Breaker!" But as Power Breaker charged in, Lancer Archfiend raised one of its blade-arms and pointed at the face-down. "And now, thanks to Lancer Archfiend, when Power Breaker attacks, he inflicts Piercing damage!"

Marcus' Set monster flipped up, revealing itself to be a curled up dragon with red streaks along the face of its otherwise white-tan body. (Lvl 3, 1400/1100) As Power Breaker struck it, the dragon shattered apart and Marcus winced as a small shockwave struck him, the makeshift meter on his Disk dropping by 800.

Marcus LP: 3200

Marcus smiled slightly. "Thank you, Masked Dragon. I activate your effect, letting me bring out your brother to further defend me." As he made this statement, he extracted another copy of the monster from his Deck, showing it briefly to Tori, and then placing it horizontally on his Field.

His gaze flicked back to Tori, awaiting her next move.

Renee had been greeting the eight monarchs, watching around and looking at their mighty thrones. A red one for Thestalos, Black for Caius, Dark Blue for Delg, Yellow for Kuraz, Brown for Granmarg, Blue for Zaborg, Green for Raiza, and White for Mobius. That time had been intervened with brief introductions, though Renee already knew all of their names, before they were disrupted by the sound of another chorus of croaking.

"That sounds like the frogs are coming somewhere as a group again, and sounds like their destination is here this time."

"In that case we shall wait for them to arrive, and welcome them to our small domain in the Wetlands."

Kuraz had a surprisingly soft and melodic voice, for such a regal seeming monster. After a short silence, the massive D.3.S. Frog came into view once more, his many frogs hopping around him. Also, somewhat surprisingly, there were two humans with a duel spirit each walking with the frogs. D.3.S. Frog spoke, his rich and deep voice cutting through the quiet chorus of croaking that was still occuring in the air.

"Little Human, two of our scouts found two more of your kind walking through our swamp. When they brought them before me I decided we should bring them to you, as you would probably know better what to do with them then we would."

"In that case, Great Desmond, would you let them go free, I would like to talk to them, and see what they know."

"If you believe they will be of no danger, we will permit them to walk free. We will be keeping an eye on them for while they are in our home, in case they do cause some mischief. Fabled Krus in particular, I do not trust."

"I do believe them to be no danger, and thank you, Desmond, for bringing them here."

Renee turned to the two humans and their duel spirits that were standing there, watching the frogs back away from around them, though they hadn't left yet. Speaking to the those humans this time, she said,

"What are you doing here, and do either of you know why we have been taken here into the spirit world?"

Having been escorted by a pack of frogs did'nt even begin to explain the confusing Kazuki experienced, and now he was standing infront of another person, a girl, who apparently was in to much of a hurry to introduce herself, oh well, just another typical day inte Spirit World. Kazuki had been silent the entire time since they've arrived at the Wetlands, not knowing what to say being the main reason, but now he was forced to speak up. Kazuki was about to open his mouth when Atlas suddenly spoke up in a serious voice.

These two were brought here for the same reason as you, to aid Ancient Fairy Dragon in stopping the Steelswarm invasion. All of us Spirits know about this, and so your Spirit should have infromed you to.

Kazuki found Atlas's appearance kinda rude, so he stepped forward to greet the girl.

What he said is basically the situation, or at least that's what we know so far, my name Kazuki, and this is my Spirit Partner Atlas.

He then looked at Rujo.

And this is Rujo and his Spirit Krus, we bumped into each other back in the forest.

Tori quickly took stock of the situation. As she had figured, it was a Dragon Deck, though, interestingly, he did not summon something defensive, like Exploder Dragon, so he would destroy one of her monsters. She then thought that maybe, he was holding out for something else, like a Totem Dragon to summon an even bigger dragon from his hand. She decided that the best way to continue would be to attack again, so she could see his true motives, which she did. "Lancer Archfiend, attack his Masked Dragon!" The knight-like fiend charged in, slicing at the dragon with one of his blades. He wouldn't inflict Piercing damage, but it would still destroy the small dragon.

As the second dragon shattered, Marcus grinned slightly, again addressing the dragon that had shielded him from the opposing monsters. "Thank you for your efforts, Masked Dragon. I activate your effect, but this time around, I'll ask for the presence of my friend, Armed Dragon LV3, in Defense Position."

"Yes!" Arma-san cheered. "You're in for it now!" Marcus half-expected him to take the field, but no such luck. An exact image of Arma-san, however, did appear on the field, in a defensive pose, its orange and tan scales shining nicely in the sunlight. (Lvl 3, 1200/900)

Marcus turned his focus back to Tori. "I guess this somewhat answers your earlier question about my Deck. But if I told you then, that strategy might not have worked if you decided to test my Dueling skill anyway."

Tori facepalms, now seeing his rather obvious strategy. She felt incredibly stupid for not seeing that coming. Now, he could level up Armed Dragon LV3 into a powerhouse with double the ATK it had now, as well as a rather nasty destruction effect, and she couldn't do anything to stop it but take the blow. At least, when her Power Breaker, which had gone into a defensive position after attacking, was destroyed, it would destroy his face-down. She sighed. "I guess you're right. This is just a beatdown deck my father gave me, and I modified slightly. You actually have a strategy with your deck. I end my turn."

"Ouch," Marcus said sympathetically. He drew his card. "Then it's my turn!" He glanced over at Arma-san, who had moved beside him and was watching the field with great interest. "During my Standby Phase, Armed Dragon LV3's effect activates, allowing me to send it to the Graveyard to Level him up!"

Armed Dragon LV3 growled and was engulfed by a white light. Then its body expanded, becoming larger and more muscular, the small spikes on its body becoming much larger and more intimidating and with a roar, the light faded, revealing a larger dragon, with red scales where there was once orange. (Lvl 5, 2400/1700)

"Ooh...sooo badass," Arma-san cooed, his eyes sparkling with admiration as he stared up at the fierce dragon. Marcus chuckled, then considered the field before checking his hand.

Power Breaker is in Defense, and its defense is 0. However, when it's destroyed by my card, it destroys one faceup Spell or Trap on my field. At the moment, I don't have any faceup Spells or Traps, but if I capitalize on the low defense...it'd be worth it, I guess.

"Let's try this out!" Marcus said enthusiastically. "It's your turn to shine, Cyberdark Horn!"

Arma-san flinched visibly, staring at Marcus apprehensively. "What?"

Marcus didn't reply, a draconic machine appearing on the field, its armor golden brown. It growled threateningly as it emerged. (Lvl 4, 800/800) "Cyberdark Horn, my friend, borrow the power of Masked Dragon and avenge its defeat, please." As he spoke, he extracted a Masked Dragon card and placed it in his Spell and Trap card zone.

On the field, Cyberdark Horn roared, strange wires descending from its chest and reaching into the ground, pulling up the downed red striped dragon and hooking the wires to it. The captured dragon whined a bit, but did not resist. An aura surrounded the machine. (ATK: 2200)

"Let me explain," Marcus said to Tori. "When my Cyberdark Horn is Normal Summoned, I can equip it with a Level 3 or lower Dragon from my Graveyard, and increase its ATK by the same amount as that equipped Dragon's ATK. Masked Dragon has 1400, so Horn gains 1400 ATK."

"Now then, time for offense," he continued, considering the cards in hand briefly. Unfortunately, he didn't have enough to utilize his Armed Dragon's effect, so he'd have to make do with his current field. "Hey, Cyberdark Horn, could you take care of Power Breaker?"

There was a pause, and nothing happened. Marcus cleared his throat. This tended to happen now and then: Duel Disks were fitted with voice recognition systems to respond to user commands, to reduce the time taken to perform actions or wrecking the mood and flow of the Duel by requiring a bunch of button commands. Unfortunately, while extremely flexible with wording most of the time, sometimes Marcus gave commands that were ambiguous enough that the system didn't respond, a failsafe in case a player was talking to someone else, or otherwise not trying to make a play.

"Cyberdark Horn, attack Power Breaker," Marcus said. This time, the machine moved, rising into the air and sending a black bolt of energy into the defending Breaker. "And like earlier, Cyberdark Horn inflicts Piercing Damage!"

(Response? If not...)

"I am aware that Power Breaker destroys a face-up Spell or Trap on my field when it is destroyed by one of my cards. The only option for that is my Masked Dragon equip card," Marcus noted, the attached dragon shattering apart, leaving Cyberdark Horn unboosted. (ATK: 2200->800)

"Armed Dragon LV5, attack Lancer Archfiend!" Marcus continued. The red and gray dragon roared, raising a clawed paw and slashing it across the fiend.

(Response? If not...)

Arma-san stifled a cheer as the fiend shattered as well, leaving Tori's field clear.

"That seems like plenty of damage, so I'll set another card to the backrow, and call it quits for this turn. During the End Phase, if Armed Dragon LV5 destroyed a monster by battle, I can send it to the Graveyard and Special Summon the next form: Armed Dragon LV7!"

The larger dragon, imposing as it already was, roared triumphantly before vanishing, to be replaced by an even more formidable version. Larger and taller than the last, with spikes adorning its shoulders and a thick, lashing tail. It slammed its claws together threateningly, dwarfing Cyberdark Horn. (Lvl 7, 2800/1000)

Arma-san made a sound that Marcus could only describe as a 'squee', his eyes burning with admiration and excitement at seeing the form he would someday inhabit when he grew up.

Marcus glanced at Tori. "Turn End."

Tori grimaced at the brutal attacks, which reduced her down to a mere 1000 Life Points in one fell swoop. She now had to contend with a powerful beast, a slightly less powerful monster, and two unknown Spell or Trap Cards. She drew her card, but smiled at the result. "I draw, and I activate Resonator Call, adding Flare Resonator to my hand from my Deck!" A pinging sound echoed through the field as Tori added a monster to the hand. "I will now Special Summon Vice Dragon from my hand, who has his Attack and Defense Points halved due to his own effect!" A large purple dragon with green wings emerged from a gust of wind. (2000 ATK|LV5) (2000 ATK -> 1000 ATK) "Now, I can Normal Summon Flare Resonator from my hand!" A strange fiend with a tuning fork, a staff with a red sphere, a tattered robe with a flame design on the front, and a flame attached to its back burst forth. (300 ATK|LV3|Tuner) "Now, I will Synchro Summon!"
Both monsters rose into the air, Flare Resonator tapping his two rods together, creating an echoing ping as he became 3 rings, which the dragon entered, turning into 5 stars. "The will of the queen is concieved with a flame that burns red and becomes a crimson blade! Appear from beyond the burning hot waves! Synchro Summon! The Knight of Burning Determination, Crimson Blader!" The array erupted into a beam of light, and an armored warrior clad in red and holding two sharp blades descended onto Tori's side of the field. (2800 ATK|LV8) "Thanks to my Flare Resonator, Crimson Blader gains 300 Attack Points!" A fiery red aura surrounded the knight. (2800 ATK -> 3100 ATK) "Now, Crimson Blader, attack Marcus' Cyberdark Edge! Inferno Slicer!" The warrior dove in to strike at the weakened robotic dragon.

((Feel free to respond to any of that.))

Marcus blinked. Very rarely did he ever see a player Synchro Summon, least of all a monster as powerful as Crimson Blader. Arma-san growled cutely when he saw the new monster, but Marcus merely smiled faintly. He liked a challenge, and Tori's last move had been a bit...disappointing, as he managed to cut down her LP to a mere 1000 with no resistance at all. So this monster was more than enough to make up for it. If he let this attack go by, though, he'd lose most of his LP in a single stroke, not even counting the possible disadvantages of the monster's effect.

"I activate my Trap," he stated, one of his cards flipping up when the attack was declared. "Burst Breath! I Tribute a Dragon-Type monster on my Field, and destroy every monster on the Field whose Defense score is lower than the dragon's ATK score."

"Oh, that's not cool!" Arma-san complained, crossing his arms. Marcus fought the urge to roll his eyes. The Trap card glowed and Armed Dragon LV7 exhaled a massive blast of flame, embers flying over Crimson Blader and his own Cyberdark Horn.

The slap left her frozen only for an instant. She was not about to let this hussy get away with such insults.

"It isn't a fairy tale! Besides, I could give a damn less about your involvement with it now!" Sena yelled the departing woman, dragging her right back into this fight. Her duel spirit wanted to stop her, but he was too scared to even close the distance between himself and his master. "Just who in the hell do you think you are?!" the girl barked, demanding an answer.

"... u-uh... s-s-s..." the poor little cube couldn't even make out a word.
Shika froze in her tracks, absolutely livid with rage. She slowly turned around to face the blond-haired girl, a vein popping out of her creamy neck.

"How dare you talk to me like that, you brat!" she shrieked, losing her composure. Even Magical Merchant was startled. He responded by dropping his wares once more. This time however, he made no move to pick them up, for he was petrified with fright. Shika took several, deep breaths, dropping down to one knee.

"I am one of the best duelists to ever grace this earth!" she finally snapped. "You have no right to talk to me like that!"

Her slender fingers reached into her pocket and she felt her deck, managing to smirk a little despite the situation.

"If you're so good, how come I've never heard of you?" Sena questioned the woman's boasting of her own skills. She had never once seen this person in her life, so how could she know this wasn't just arrogance? Asking herself this, a rather cheeky grin was plastered on her face as the girl crossed her arms. ... Then she noticed the woman reaching in a pocket. Was she going for her gun? Wait, no. That's stupid.

"Prove it." Sena added, now holding herself back so she could hear whatever response this stranger could come up with. Thinking about it, this could be the perfect way to blow off steam.

"I-I'm the most skilled duelist there ever was! Not every great duelist is on television or exposed to the media!" exclaimed Shika angrily, whipping our her cards ferociously. She saw the smirk on Sena's face and quickly grew more enraged. Keeping her cool was growing difficult...

"I'll do more than prove it, you little wench. I'll just have to crush you!" she snapped coldly, clenching her deck tightly.

Behind her, Magical Merchant called out in his greasy voice.

"Yeah, she'll crush you, little girl-chan~~~"

"Challenge accepted." Sena responded to Shika's cold declaration of war, still putting up a audacious front. Though, that broke when that little gnat just spoke. Two veins popped out of her forehead to reveal how furious she was. The blonde girl did not yell, instead, was just controlled by her Tranquil Fury.

"You die first." was the only thing that escaped her lips, directed at the insect. Vylon Cube, still terrified, had no choice but to comply with his master if she was going to fight. He held both of his arms up and floated over to Sena's right arm. A light quickly engulfed it for a few moments and then disappeared, revealing a standard duel disk with golden trimming and a deck loaded in it equipped onto her arm. This was new to her, but she didn't care, the only thing on her mind was defeating her foe and killing the bug.

Tori quickly placed a Quick-Play Spell Card down. "I was planning on using this later in the duel, but I guess I have no choice! I activate Pyramid Energy!" Crimson Blader ducked down as a pyramid-shaped force field formed over him, protecting him from the searing assault. "Pyramid Energy can increase the Attack Points of my monsters by 200, or the Defense Points of my monsters by 500, during the turn it is activated, making it surprisingly useful in some situations." Now, Marcus' field was clear, save for his lone Trap Card. "Crimson Blader, attack Marcus directly! Inferno Slicer!" The huge knight charged in again, once more, with feeling.

"Shiiiika-sama, little girl-chan is scaring meeee..." Magical Merchant pouted, trying to hide behind the raven-haired girl's long locks. However, Shika quickly swiped at him, missing her Spirit but achieving the desired effect. Magical Merchant flew backwards anxiously, muttering fervent apologies.

However, Shika's gaze was now enraptured on Sena's Duel Disk. Impossible... she shook her head.

"In this duel, I'll go first!" she declared coldly, whipping out her own disk. It had the same golden trimming, but Shika had shamelessly decorated it with fancy rubies and sapphires. Her slender fingers popped her deck in, and she hurriedly drew a card without fanfare.

"I set one card and end my turn!" Shika declared, her brow furrowing. Not a good start..

A face-down Defense Position monster graced her field.
