What Grinds Your Gears, YCM?

So, one day I was hanging out in the school cafeteria, when I'm alone and am walking down the hallway. Some kid comes down and starts asking me why don't I believe in God and all that crap. I honestly have no idea how she found out I was atheist, nor do I care. I just shrugged her off and was on my way. Over the next few days she keeps it up, trying to convert me so I became my father for a second and started yelling that there was no such thing and blah blah blah, she ran off. (I think I overdid it). I normally don't mind religion being around as long as they keep it to themselves, but that really set me off.

(The funny thing is, my dad did that the other night to my sister. Who is religious)

So YCM, what grinds your gears?

I weren't that harsh, given that you were just giving a rebuttal equal to what the girl was throwing at you, but it's not really religion that was annoying you in this situation, but the mere fact that a person was persistently bugging you about something that you're not going to go discussing with random strangers on a whim. It would be equally annoying if they were talking about politics or hell, even trivial preferences. Point being, she told you x = 2, repeatedly, you said x = 3. The only harsh part was that, judging from your story, you used an angry voice.

OT: This might sound tight-assed, but the whole "I'm fine with religion as long as they keep it themselves" grinds my gears. It sounds uncannily familiar to a similar attitude towards homosexuals, (which also grinds my gears. I am aware of the irony of that comparison. Get over it.)

There has to be something in-between hiding something and shoving down people throats with no regard for tact.

It really grinds my gears when people are so naive to think something isn't possible cause it seems obvious. Well, I think they're just too lazy and caught up in their reputation/rank to even consider checking its possibility, especially at the request of others.

It also grinds my gears when religion is brought up in a debate on something totally irrelevant to it. I mean really...I'm on Youtube listening to some kick-ass Cannibal Corpse, then I see in the comments (yes, I actually read the comments) at least 3 messages preaching that "this music is the work of Satan. God will guide you down the right path!" ...

...honestly, I grew up in a Christian family and looked to God all my childhood. But it was this kind of stupidity that made me convert to atheism just before graduation. What a bunch of d*cks.

From time to time, a specific religious group goes by preaching their philosophy. They knock every door of their assigned zone.
Not sure what they are called in English, but around my place, we simply call them "los hermanos".

It's very annoying.
People are inside their homes, enjoying a weekend, sometimes watching TV with the window/door somewhat open, and they knock and start talking. Or we are in the middle of chores like watering plants or swiping the sidewalk. Even when I have kindly told them that I'm in the middle of work, and that when the sun rises more it'll be harder for me to keep working outside on the heat, they simply say they'll "be quick about it" and start talking what I consider is the same as their "long version" of the speech.

Among some tricks, in my family we call each other up pretending to have something urgent to do elsewhere (in the worse cases).
Overall we try to not be too harsh to them since their religion actually seems to require them to do what they do, but other people do shout at them and close the door in their faces.

Stupid people on the internet.

Given I live in Japan, pretty much no one tells me anything about religions and so I don't care.

As true as this sounds, most people are hypocrites for making that statement.

You're damn lucky. <_<

Pretty much everyone on the internet is a hypocrite. We all pretend to be real geniuses who know everything and have egos the sizes of solar systems when in fact we're just normal in real life.

I'll tell you what grinds my gears.

A Gear grinder.

*shot*

Really though, having to repeat myself because people pay attention in a cycle. One person pays attention, the other zones out, you repeat to them to have the next person zone out, after about 5 times of repeating yourself, unless it's really EPIC, I get agitated.

You know what really grinds my gears ? People badmouthing about Satan. If it wasn't for that guy, Hitler, Stalin and all the rest of the evils inh history would be up there behind the pearly white gates, drinking tea and having fun. I mean considering how many people are evil, Hell must be overflowing and it will be until the end of time. So next time, cut him some slack.

Normal is relative, considering there's at least 500 websites pertaining to any given animal, object or cartoon character fornicating on the internet. XD

When people leave windows slightly open... like 2 or so inches. I have this insane fear of slightly opened windows, I won't go within 5 feet of those, something about it closing rapidly and cutting off my hand or something. I can't stand people who crack windows, OPEN THE WHOLE THING! I feel safer.

Oh, I should also mention that it grinds my gears when someone is cosplaying or whatnot, a kid looks at him thinking it's awesome, then their mom looks at him, the cosplayer, and starts nudging their child away as if the cosplayer was some sort of queer/monster. The nerve of it all.

When I go to Golden Corral there is one thing that really erks me the wrong way.
When people say they aren't going to get the mashed potatoes but do anyways.
"Oh, I am just going to get biscuits." Old lady says, and then she darts over and grabs some mashed potatoes.
BULLF*CKINGSH*T LADY! You went to get those mashed potatoes, I saw! If someone tries to pull off they are not going to get the mashed potatoes and then gets them to piss off the guy next to him then I will rip the person in half with a plate >:/

One would think that people from the country I live in, Mexico, being relatively less educated and liberal than our beloved neighbours from the states, would take religion a lot more seriously than them.
But here I've met a whole lot of atheists, agnostics and people who just don't find any appeal in organised religion. Heck, even the religious ones are respectful and know when it isn't proper to open their mouths (except Jehovah's witnesses, ugh) if anything, they're kinda naïve (in a cute way :3).
Now, regarding the topic… I get extremely jealous when it comes to my love interests. Other than that I'm fine.

I wanna live in Mexico now.
And I don't understand how you could hate that aspect of Mexico. It sounds great to me.
