Sure, let's make a card that's good for the game useless.
Major plussing is useless unless you can OTK?

I think you're forgetting what even makes Heavy Storm good for the game.

Because in a sense, let's say I open T-King set 3. I've got the first-turn advantage and a solid set-up. So the opponent Heavys, then they can't really make any sort of push to get the game back in their favor. It just creates an unfair advantage for the player by allowing them to set up a situation that the opponent can't come back from. I just don't like the mindset it creates. Heavy Storm makes players hesitant to just set their hand and end, keeping a more balanced game.
And this changes when the opponent can't kill you that turn... how? You're still going to worry about losing advantage because you're overextending.

Heavy is only good for the game because it punishes overextension. Anything past that is just overkill and bad for the game.

This is the ONLY way anyone plays this game:
Derp the whole game -> refuse to play anything that pushes for game -> Topdeck Heavy Storm, as that's the turn you declare game.

Seriously, nobody just plays this card. They just "save" it to when they can OTK. And its annoying as hell.

Sometimes, even using it as one for one removal is fair use. I've seen people loose for being too greedy and wanting to wait for this card to be able to plus. When no other options are available, go for it.

"You cannot Special Summon monsters or conduct your Battle Phase the turn you activate 'Heavy Storm'."

Konami, fix it, pl0x.

Just wanted to say how much I agree with this.
Problems with heavy:
-Being OTK friendly
-Being an easy +

That idea still enforces keeping in check overextending, and even does so to a bigger degree, since we can assume that designers strive to keep a card balanced enough to be at 3, while it also should have a balancing factor. One turn without agression or swarm. It's not like people are too hurt from Pot of Duality's drawbacks anyways.

To those that hate this card because it destroys backrows and discourages overextending:

To those that hate how people play this card because of the state of the game for the past few years:
Meh, I don't have something to post for it, but I understand, because that's being reasonable.

This card was initially created as a more balanced "Harpie's Feather Duster", back when the game was slow enough that OTKs were pretty much non-existant. Also, the game didn't have enough cards in it's pool to really make it Archtype specific, I don't even recall archtypes from back then other than the Lava/Swamp brothers, and the Flute of Summoning Dragons.

The evolution of the game requires this card to go by now, but since many forms of alternate S/T removal seem insatisfactory, well, people have no choice but putting up with it, I guess.

it is only a necessary evil until the designers are able/ decide they want, a more balanced and acceptable replacement.

Fun Fact: The first "Archetype" was Gravekeepers back in Pharaonic Guardian.

Unless you want to consider BEWD and Dark Magician, but really, they weren't the same.

Thinking about it...
Do Exodia pieces count as an archtype? =0

BEWD, Dark Magician, and Red Eyes are themes now, but I wonder if they were back then...
Magic Curtain and Thousand Knives come from japanese Premium Pack 4 iirc, and Dark Magician Girl is a bit older than that. uhh... how old are Gravekeepers in comparison. I could probably track their TCG release, but I remember there were several packs in japan back then already and I'm no longer sure what existed first...
