In This Topic: Xyz Summons now require Polymerization

Recommended Posts

Just as an idea, you now need a Polymerization (no equivalent) to Xyz Summon, whilst still controlling the face-up monsters to become xyz material. This would (I sure hope) stop xyz based loops, severely hurt decks focused on Xyz Summoning, and possibly make players consider "Do I really want to Xyz Summon now?"

Discuss. Will people use it? Will it be a staple in almost every deck? Will the support cards be used alongside it?
Will Xyz based decks begin to use Fusion Sage and whatnot?

Pretty open idea, go.

While you're at it, why not suggest that Synchro Summons require polymerization?

It's not the Xyz Mechanic's fault that loops happen, but it is the fault of the poorly-designed cards that allow for loops to happen.  Xyz Mechanic is fine as it is, and you want to neuter it just because of some loops?  Disgraceful.

Even if the change looks subtile on paper, and even though many Xyzs and even a decent number of Synchros require you to -2 yourself (3 materials) to even play them, I'll make a guess and say that it'd actually tilt the balance to the other extreme.

It'd be an extra -1 with more inconsistency for decks and an absurd amount of 3 copies of outside of boring "search and recycle" deck dedication.

It'd be overkill.

There are decks based on that mechanic, and for them to be able to have decent fluent gameplay you'd have to turn them into card dedication Gishiki-loop level.

Xyzs and Synchros have both been derpy in the past, but I blame other cards for it. Actually, it is the Main Deck power that breaks them most of the time.

This makes me think: What would a good line be for a well made boss?

There are the extremes of: Dead 99% of time but overpowered to stupid levels if you can bring it out. OR Too easy to bring out, it's not even a boss anymore, but our actual opening play that's even disposable.

and what's the mark between designing cards that have "comeback" power to them and ones that end up causing sliding effects due to the weird pluses that many decks so easily do nowadays?

Now, I'm gonna go to sleep and hope my statement was coherent enough. I might laugh at myself upon waking up tomorrow. xD

I agree with this as the mechanic is a interesting idea in itself though my thought that for some Xyz's like Mecha Phantom Beast Dragosak and Ghostrick Alucard as an example should of more so been either type exclusive or just stuck as being exclusive to their own deck's rather than being playable in every deck which would of reduced the aspect of how these cards can be abused.

That would make Fusions largely better than Xyz Monsters.

Xyz Monsters were fine in theory, with their limited materials restricting the number of uses of their effects and options of reviving them. Just that power creep happened that made them this strong. Compare the current-day Xyz Monsters with some of the first ones, which pretty much penalized themselves for a lack of Material.

Um... the Xyz Mecanic isn't fine at all.

It's a mechanic that screams generic power for everything, generally without any form of drawback for how generic it is, for simply having 2 monsters of the same level. Dropping multiples of the same level at lower levels is a joke, and isn't balanced in the slightest. It's a mechanic that's extremely easy to break, and always will be.

The idea of making it need poly is stupid, but the mechanic is not "fine". It's rather badly designed.
