Sargasso the D.D Battlefield and Sargasso Lighthouse

Recommended Posts

Personally, I love the artwork on Battlefield, what with it being a graveyard for aircraft carriers and all.
And then Lighthouse, on the other hand, is also a broken down lighthouse so it keeps up with the motif of Battlefield and just makes an interesting pair.
Concept wise, they are cool as hell. Gameplay wise; Kinda' weird.

The problem with Sargasso is that players have 8000 LP. And Decks are too fast. In the anime, with 4000 LP, and players usually only having 1 or 2 key Xyz Monsters and very few ways to spam-spam-spam-OTK means that the burn hurts a LOT and adds up very quickly.

I love that Lighthouse searches Sargasso, though. It's a nice addition to the pair other than a mere gimmick.

I was surprised this got released as-is.

No changes, no improvements.

No additional effects, no increased burn.

Nothing.

The theme was really cool.

In-play, it's not worth it.

Even arguably. Pure burn towards something like Xyz Summoning is pretty much one of the problems Shock Master has. Punishing a deck for having a certain playstyle that often can't really be changed. Though this one instead of being broken for the game, has the problem of being just a burning card and nothing else.

Destined to either be not worth it or broken depending on the amount of burn given. Either way it'd be bad.

This card is pretty much destined for mediocrity for the get-go.

If Xyz summons are super popular enough for this to warrant use, then this card would see increased play. But a smart player would realize that if this card was recieving increased play, they'd stop playing Xyzs so much.

Ultimately, too little burn for a pretty easy effect to get around. Not interested

It would be a general consensus that cards like Sargasso would not do very well in the current game. It adds Burn some additional potential, but if Konami were to release more of these, maybe it can lighten up a duel by some LP loss like in the anime. And this card was for sure well executed in the 3-way Barian showdown.

The way the card was used in the anime is fundamentally different from the actual card. First off, in the anime it was a field effect from their dimension, not an actual card, so the Varians didn't lose a card playing it. They also already knew about it when they lured Yuma et al there, which gave them unfair advantage. Also, anime decks are cripplingly reliant on Xyz, whereas the present format is Synchro and Xyz in equal parts.
