What the hell has Congress done to America? We shouldn't even be in this situation, but we are. So, discuss the implications this shutdown will have on America and the world.

Nationwide, most of the government workers will be on furlough (since only the military and a select few government agencies are down). Everything else (including if you need to get passport, want to visit national parks or some other stuff) are shut down.

For a worldwide implication, I'm not too sure about what it'll have on the world at the moment, aside from our stock value dropping. (But most likely, it won't matter much for the other countries)

But yeah, if Congress had found a solution before 12 am EST, we wouldn't be in this mess. (And compound that with them needing to raise the debt ceiling in 2.5 weeks).

Not funding the government because a certain party doesn't like a "by the book law" is ridiculous. It doesn't even matter that most Americans don't want it. (didn't stop those same people from wanting military action a few weeks ago)

This is not how the government is suppose to operate. Its saddening that children run the show.

Why can't both sides just compromise on this issue? They are elected to serve our best interests; they are not their to serve their own. They need to get their heads out of their a**** and figure this out or America is done considering the debt-ceiling debate is going to make this worse than it is now. And yes, I have a right to be mad about this.

They can compromise. They won't, because they are trying to serve the best interests of their parties, who in turn attempt to serve the public's interests (that, or they're corrupt in their seat of power.)

This is literally the most ignorant any congress has ever been. my 5 year old nephews could come to a compromise faster than this. It's almost like they're literally trying to find the fastest way to run this country into the ground.

There needs to be a clause that kicks out all members of congress and allows for re-electing new ones when they try to pull stunts like this, because they are literally choking the country to death with their petty stupidity.

There's something to be learned from this.

The Republican Party is awful.

The Democratic Party is also awful.

They're both equally terrible because neither actually gives a toss about properly running this country, but just pushing a specific agenda and making sure their sugar daddies are kept happy.

Fuck 'em.

The worst part is, CONGRESS IS STILL GETTING PAID.  WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK AMERICA.

I'm sure your 5 Year Old Nephews could come to a compromise faster than this, if it is on the topic of who gets what out of evenly divided portions of cake. I sincerely doubt your 5 year old nephews would even last a second in Congress, let alone make any form of argument, and thus any form of compromise.

Who do you have in mind to replace them? Also, do you know each, and every single fact about what exactly is going on to say they're stupid? This matter is most likely not a case of who gets how many cakes, but something that may influence the country.

That's not to say what happened should of happened. It shouldn't have happened. However, you making ignorant statements like this is, well, as ignorant as you claim congress is being.

I do wish that we had more reasonable and productive people leading us.

But instead we get something more like a bad sitcom.

1) My 5 year old nephews know better than to cost millions of people their jobs over a bill they don't like, no matter how much tea party, or whoever else opposes obamacare, or whatever else it's called these days, that does not count as grounds to shut everybody out of their jobs, every country except America has a system similar to obamacare, and even if it does have rough edges, test them first, and iron them out as it goes along instead of holding petty arguments over how "this new bill will destroy america"

2) I have nobody specific in mind, but that's not the point of the statement, congress just ruined the livelihood of millions of people for absolutely no reason than their irrationally large fear of a bill that they could have just come to a peaceful agreement on. add in the fact that all the current members of congress do nowadays is argue over nothing and point fingers, and that is enough for me to say somebody new is needed in most (if not all) of those seats.

3) I call them children because they all have been acting like children, it goes far beyond obamacare, that was just the most recent face of it, and the one that it boiled over on, Congress and to an extent, the president have been doing little besides filibusters and arguments. Name 3 large bills that have made it through congress completely unfilibustered. in the past, that would be easy, but now I can barely think of one.

Allowing something like a complete government shutdown used to be a mark of shame on any congressman's record, now it's being used like a weapon in a tantrum war.

*How to become Canadian citizen*

Google don't fail me now.

It's not that difficult to move here! Plus we have this amazing Charter that ensures you have some decent rights. It's from 1982, anyway, so it's recent, too.

I'm advertising for a country with little people because we need to populate our tundras.

The ones that are causing this (hardcore libs and repubs) are from districts that would just re-elect them, because they don't care for compromise either.

Indeed.

On another note, I'm not even sure I support Obamacare, but this is NOT the way to handle it.

Yea. This is what I've read over the years: while Americans don't like Obamacare (53%[?]), Americans do want Health Care reform. It's not that Americans don't want Healthcare Reform, it's just the way that it's setup is what they don't like (I say they cause I don't mind Obamacare).

Some really witty and hilarious posts I saw on Tumble concerning this:

1. "America is asleep quick let’s measure things using logical units"
2. "all the same sex couples quick get married while the government isnt looking"
3. "The day is October 1st, Green Day has arisen from their slumber. The moment they awake the Government announces that they will be shutting down. Green Day has done it. They have achieved the end goal. Pop Punk anarchy is upon us. We have all become American Idiots."
4. "next time you go to accuse a teenage girl of overreacting remember that when a bunch of elderly white men couldn’t agree on something, they shut down the government"

5. "now that the governments down we can open the portal to Halloweentown back up"
6. "did u try unplugging the government and plugging it back in"

7. "vampire weekend is ur government now"

8. "i can’t believe the american government got cancelled before glee did"

Now I do have an actual opinion on this but I don't really like expressing political views on social networks. Ya feel me?
