Azuh
https://yugiohblog.konami.com/articles/?p=5738 A new term is coming to the TCG in relation to "Shinra" which is now called "Sylvan"

Toffee.
I want to see an example of the word "Excavate" on a card, so I can see what they are getting at.I mean, I don't want it to be a term that's exclusive to Sylvans, since that will just be annoying.(Although, Sworns will likely get it as well, assuming 'Excavate' is used as a term for milling cards). heraldry_lord
"Sylvan" is an interesting name change, and I'm pleased that Konami is using more keywords.
Dementuo
Why are they trying to use MtG's keyword system?
goddamnit names are a pain
"Deluxe Editions are probably going to be replacing Special Editions moving forward. Special Editions are cool, but the small box of a Special Edition limits what we can put in them. The larger box of the Deluxe Edition gives us more flexibility on things we can include. One of the key things about Deluxe Editions is that they will include advance copies of cards from the FOLLOWING booster set. So it’s a cool way to get foil versions of key cards from the next expansion, before the booster set is even out. (And yes, these advance copies are tournament legalthe moment you get them.)"  What an idiot. Oh gee, 2 common/rare cards that are "key" that we can play in advance. Aren't we lucky! And no more good promos, glad SHSP going out with a bang. Key thing is....no good promos.    "We’ll be unveiling the January 1 Forbidden & Limited Cards List in a couple weeks, plus lots of other exciting news."  Wait, what? Midformat list?   "
evilfusion
Excavate? Just based on what Shinra do from memory (and not reading article), that would probably be an effect that reveals X cards on the top of the Deck. So maybe cards like Pot of Duality would say you excavate 3 cards, choose 1 to put in the hand, and reshuffle the others into the Deck. That way, it'd be clear you're revealing the top cards? Â I don't really see the value to making a keyword for that, though, other than the fact Shinra have to be REVEALED and then sent to get their effects, and some cards might be ambiguous whether you're revealing them, or just sending them. Wildflame
Not really digging the word "Excavate", but I guess they have to make some changes now and then in order to keep some novelty value. Sylvan sounds great though.
evilfusion
Well, the only explanation I have is how wordy Shinra effects are. But now the rulebook has to explain what Excavate means. And if I'm right about it being effects that "reveal X cards from top of Deck"...how many cards actually do this?
heraldry_lord
Why are they trying to use MtG's keyword system?  I for one think it's a fair idea on paper; though how it works out in practice remains to be seen. The Shinra, I mean Sylvans, have a lot of repetitive text that explains what they do when they reveal cards from the top of the deck and then send them to wherever, and using a keyword for this not only significantly shortens their text, but can be reused for any future monsters that have effects of that nature. Keep in mind that "piercing" is also a keyword, and it only proved to be a good change as far as I'm concerned. Maeriberii Haan
Hmm, would Magical Merchant follow the excavate bandwagon, or not? Â Kinda unsure about the wording.

Now.
evilfusion
They didn't actually explain what "Excavate" means, so it was just theorizing so far. Â I expect that yeah, Merchant would say "Excavate cards until you reveal a Spell or Trap Card", and Reasoning/Monster Gate would be worded similarly, just for monsters that can be Normal Summoned. Â That makes the most sense, at least, based on how Shinra work, and what other cards do similar things.
goddamnit names are a pain
No, you guys have it wrong. http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Fossil_Excavation That's similar to what Excavation will be. Don't know how it ties in with Shinras, though. A Dinosaur build? Â Excavate is defined as "Make (a hole) by digging" or "removing earth systematically to find buried remains". Â So in Yu-Gi-Oh applications, excavating would be digging through your Deck to find specific cards.

evilfusion
I was joking, but that is a good definition. I thought similar, but the context really fits. Â Especially since you excavate from the surface of the earth. Just like Shinra reveal cards from the TOP of the Deck, going deeper into the Deck. heraldry_lord
It would save on card text.  Maybe one of these days, they'll stop putting repetitive card text on Spirit monsters.  I hope Sylvans do get the support they need, because I do think their gimmick is pretty interesting.
DeathSDelano
If they do the keyword system. maybe now they can finally just put piercing as piercing to save card space.
CNo.101 S.H. Death Knight
Maybe one of these days, they'll stop putting repetitive card text on Spirit monsters.  I hope Sylvans do get the support they need, because I do think their gimmick is pretty interesting.  but then there a spirit that do opposite of what Spirit normally does, i.e.: Yamato-no-Kami. So I'm going to take a shot on example with Sylvan Leaflow  OCG's  When this card is Normal Summoned: You can reveal up to 2 cards from the top of your Deck, send any revealed Plant-Type monsters to theGraveyard, and return any remaining cards to the bottom of the Deck in any order. If a card effect reveals this card from the Deck and sends this card from there to the Graveyard: You can target 1 monster on the field;destroy that target.  TCG's   When this card is Normal Summoned: You can excavate up to 2 cards; send any excavated Plant-Type monsters to the Graveyard, and return any remaining card to the bottom of the Deck in any order. If a card effect excavates this card and sends this card from there to the Graveyard: You can target 1 monster on the field; destroy that target.  I guess it would be something like that though they might shorten the bottom of the deck thing as well but who knows.  since Leaflow's texts fill the text box by  6 1/4, it may reduce to like 5 1/3-1/2 lines. not sure if that a big difference or not up to you guys.
