Sylvan and Excavate

Recommended Posts

I think he meant the card would literally just say: Piercing on it as opposed to piercing battle damage, like Trample in MTG.

More keywords are good. I mean, given that if they are making some things more consitent across cards, then it'll save space.

And is reinforcing the whole: YGO is becoming more like it's competitor's vibes I'm getting, the OCG spoilers being vanguard esque, and th TCG adopting MTG's competitive draft idea (In a different manner) and more keywords.
Do people still actually announce the archetype name every time they play a card involving that archetype?   Sylvan and Shinra (awesome as the latter is) aren't that different. I'm just weirded out because I read it as "Sylveon".
I won't lie, i did read that as Sylveon as well. Also if you mean announcing irl, some do and some don't.

OT:  While I like Shinras as a name better, I still like Sylvans.  Excavate is a cool term as well.

I like the Shinra name because I can actually pronounce it.

This new term you either pronounce horribly, horribly wrong or you sound like a Pokemon nerd while playing Yugioh. Which isn't bad, but wasn't he intended purpose. I'll be asking people if they play a Sylveon deck just for kicks though.

Sylvan = Sil-Van or Sil-Vin

Idg how it sounds like Sil-Vee-On

Why hs nobody made a "Sylvan Learning Centre" joke yet?

OT: the keyword system is a good spacesaver if you can actually confirm somewhere what the phrase means. It's also useful in MTG for effects that are subtly different. Why Yugioh would want it, I have no idea, because MTG effects also use icons to demonstrate cost. What would a detach icon be?

Am I the only one guessing 'Excavating' might be the new "Generation specific' way of summoning?
(I also seem to be the only one having no clue what soever what Sylvans are.)

I mean, makes sense, no? I dunno. It's a guess.

Excavate literally just means "reveal from the Deck".

Sylvans are an archetype of Plants that reveal the top card(s) of the Deck, and Plants among them go to the Graveyard, the rest going to the bottom of the Deck. They also have effects that activate when they've been revealed from the Deck by a card effect and sent to the Graveyard.

Does excavate imply shuffling any remaining cards into the deck if no other action is specifed for them? eg "Excavte 3 cards and send the monsters among them to the graveyard" would shuffle the non-monsters into the deck? If yes, then it saves some text space. If no, then why even crate the keyword in the first place?

Excavate is currently just another term for "reveal" as it seems right now.
