Rock Paper Scissors Theory

Recommended Posts

We all know going first on DN is a huge advantage and to get to go first, you need to win RPS.  How do you do it YCM?

I find scissors are the best pick because most often people go for paper since it is the centre.

If you and your opponent tie twice in a row, chances are they will pick the third item the next time so you need to pick whatever will beat it.

I don't go play often but when I do go I pick paper and 90% of my opponents pick rock, which is the reason my standard play is paper.

When it's a tie I just repeat the same and my opponents are likely to do the same.

On the third try my opponents expect another repetition and go to the strong choice and I usually move down to the weaker stage, which is strong against their new decision.

That's how I personally do it.

I kinf of have a strategy for it in YGO Pro and DN.

I start by picking at random (I might have a tendency to pick one thing or another, I don't know). Then, if I tie, I pick the same thing. For some reason people don't usually pick what beats it. Then, if the second one is also a tie, I measure my opponent's reaction. If they choosed fast, they are just mashing the same thing over and over again, so I pick whatever beats what I chose before. But if they took a bit longer, I assume they will pick what beats what I chose the earlier rounds, so I go for whatever it beats that.

It's kind of hard to put into words, but it works for me more often than not, for some reason.

DN? I always shoot rock because Scissors are the closest to the "Ready!" button.

This is the only thing you need to know, really.

That said I typically choose paper, so that I lose the first turn, because I'm already having an enormous advantage over 90% of the opponents I face just by being universe-saving-tier of amazing at card games and my opponents have some measure of chance also because going second gives me an excuse for when I do lose

Also going first on YGO is not even close to as big an advantage as it is going first on CFV or FCBF.

Also going first on BS is not good unless you run a few cost 4 Nexus cards.

I actually put a lot if thought into doing this. I try guessing based on their username what they'll pick, since in my experiance the more annoying and or younger they are they more likely they are to pick rock. I rarely ever see scissors and more experianced players i usually see go for paper.

I try for a tie/win with paper first and then go for whatever seems appropriate depending on what happens. Usually works out pretty well, although any time someone chosses scissors i'll lose.

I find the common opening play recently was Scissors, then it shifted to Rock as people noticed this.

I generally lead with paper because scissors have shifted out of popularity so you lose the first round less. If it's a draw, I generally expect rock, so I'll go paper once more based on that paper-rock seems a "random" combination when people are trying to be random.

Paper Paper and I still haven't won? Rock (counter scissors), paper (people won't go straight to scissors if you're showing you're also choosing rock), rock.

I thought too much about the method but I've used it for a while.
