Polymerization

Fusion Summon 1 Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck, usingmonsters from your hand or your side of the field as Fusion Materials.

In todays Episode. Yuzu received a copy of "Polymerization" from Sora. Now this, can only mean one of 2 things:

1) She intends to study the mechanic in order to find out its weaknesses.

or...

2) She intends to actually use the mechanic.

Either way, its highly likely we'll see Fantasia Fusions in the future.

Am I missing something that came out recently that made Polymerization not bad anymore?

Nothing's come out. This is about something in the anime and what might happen.

Fusion Reserve and Blazeman seem to be trying to bring this back.

There's also Furnimals Cat and Owl, in technicality.

Polymerization isn't half as bad as it used to be, though it's not optimal yet.

And some Shaddoll builds ran 1 Poly because it was a 4th fusion spell before El Shaddoll Fusion.

You would think that since Melodious are a music archetype that they would have Tuners/Synchros. Looks like she might go the Fusion route

I think she might go in all three routes.  Melodious monsters Special Summon themselves quickly, which gives them Xyz Options.

Poly can be considered optimal if the reward of the action equals or exceeds the cost. Furnimal Cat is a good example of this, as it rewards you for using it as a Fusion Material monster. However, this reward is still offset by the fact that the two Des Toys we have right now are pretty crappy.

So for Poly to be good, the Fusion needs to be worth making and the Materials should include some form of reward for using them in such a way.

'Cept where does one draw the line at it being absurd?
(I'm using "absurd" lightly, btw)

Since something like Shaddolls exist, and they have a pretty jacked up version of Poly that, while you play along with the Archetype's concept, you net a bunch of pluses just because you played a whole 1 card, to which, said card will ultimately be recycled, ergo, you just pull a bunch of advantage out of thin air(it doesn't happen right away, but still).

At the very least it's been crawling out of the awful category thanks to Fusion Materials getting more generic, to Fusion Monsters getting better, and to the fact only HERO, Dragon, DARK Machine, Gem-knight, Dark Magician, and Shadolls have upgrades of Fusion cards, leaving everything outside of that incredibly narrow variety hanging on to good old Polymerization.

As said above, it's still not all that good, though it might get more viable. Furnimals are a good approach for encouraging Poly, making them a mostly previously unexplored monster Type for Fusion strategies and working mostly as materials from the hand rather than being part of a swarming strategy. That way Super Poly is not the go-to norm either. Though we still need some more bosses for them, which considering how much screen time Sora gets, we'll most likely see more.

Right now Poly doesn't have enough incentive, but in the future it will very probably do.
