Temple of the Kings

Recommended Posts

Given the time this card was released, and at that time Xyz/Synchro were not much of a thing, I think it would have been "okay", but I am conflicted at the same time because Cyber Stein OTK was a thing...

Though the need for that specific monster is something to think about.

Metamorphosis is more strict on what you can Summon (has to be the Level of the Tributed monster) and Cyber Stein is extremely costly in Life Points, but this card requires effort for its "OH NO EXTERIO" thing. It's a lot more balanced than the other two, but being able to fling out big scary Fusions like Stein can still does feel dumb.

As a card, Serket is actually pretty neat (1-Tribute 2500 body who banishes what it kills and gains 500 more ATK for each, it's even a Fairy so you can play it with Valhalla), but since it dies if you don't have Temple out, it's dead until you have Temple. Therefore, it sucks. But since you need Temple to even have Serket around, and Temple has the effect to bring out any monster from your hand/Deck/ED, Serket stops being Divine Knight Ishzark and is instead just a boring bridge to OH NO EXTERIO or Last Warrior or something. If there were a new Temple for Serket to be played, it needs to not be able to have this sort of effect, just for the sake of actually playing Serket instead of using it as a combo piece.

Yeah...Serket would have been so awesome if it didn't rely on Temple to live, and if Temple didn't let you give up Serket for virtually anything.

We definitely need a card that treats itself as Temple, or at least lets you play Serket without it destroying itself.

I think that's why this Mini-me was made.

Each time this card destroys 1 monster on your opponent's side of the field by battle and sends it to the Graveyard, this card gains 500 ATK.

The first effect is meant to assist Trap Monsters, I think.  The way I see it, a retooled Temple would be Trap Monster support and something that makes Serket more playable.

I did.

It's specific for the second effect, but it's still not a good one. Promotes OTKs, yay...

Basically a more specific Cyber Stein in a way but regardless we do not need this. Ever.

While I get what you're saying, there are many things in this game we don't really "need".

Royal Shrine

Continuous Spell

This card's name is also always treated as "Temple of the Kings". While this card is face-up on the field: Trap cards whose effect includes Special Summoning themselves as Monster cards can be activated from the hand.

Something like this then? Not sure how to limit it to Trap Monsters without activating ALL Trap cards, since Trap Monster isn't an official card type.

On the bright side, it does not ignore summoning condition.

I wonder which one is more potent. This or Makyura?

Makyura is Level 4 and DARK (thus easily dumpable), and his effect doesn't need him to be on the field. Also you don't need to Set the Traps before activating with Makyura; you do need to do this with Temple, but you can chain the Trap to whatever is trying to kill it. Temple is also unsearchable.

I would say in terms of immediate use, Makyura is stronger, but Temple has more potential strength due to its second effect, which is held back by needing Serket.
