July 1st OCG Limit Regulation Discussion

Recommended Posts

Normally I try to put these out on the 20th, but the Meta has largely settled down and I have a feeling this list will be a big one for a few reasons, so 2 days head start

If you haven't seen the OCG Format thread

A total of 244 top-placing deck lists were gathered from 20 Japanese tournaments which were held between 25th April 2015 to 10th May 2015, based on the current OCG 2015.04 Forbidden and Limited List.

Here is the post-CORE metagame breakdown of the OCG 2015.04 format.

Mq7JaPq.jpg?1

Number of each deck type are as follows :

763 - HERO (22%)
705 - Nekroz (20%)
314 - Qliphort (9%)
301 - Atlantean (9%)
297 - Infernoid (8%)
292 - Tellarknight (8%)
119 - Shaddoll (3%)
86 - Verz (Evilswarm) (2%)
79 - Clown Blade (2%)
66 - Yosenju (2%)
51 - Raidraptor (2%)
43 - Volcanic (1%)
415 - Others (12%)
3,531 - Total (100%)

KEC1aUR.jpg?1

We can create a pretty clear Meta Analysis from these dissemination

The metagame remains largely the same as Nekroz and HERO takes the top spots (T1) while Qliphort, Tellarknight, Atlantean and Infernoid (T1.5) follows behind.

Nekroz:

1) Konami is trying very hard not to hit the generic Ritual Support due to Red Eyes and the Sibyl

A) Senju and Gishki Chain won't get hit
B) Manju will likely go from 2->3

2) Konami went very hard on the deck itself, Brio, Unicore, Cycle limited.

A) Trishula and Valk arn't the major problem each being run 1-2
B) Shruit dodges the need for matching of levels for deck
C) Clausolus the main tutor for the Ritual Spells
D) Exo and Scope are both in a general 2-3 and 1-2 ratio respectively

Shruit is a easy hit, the problem lies whether to hit Exo or Clausolus. The clue lies with this guy

Zefrasaber, Swordmaster of the Nekroz

Pendulum Effect You cannot Pendulum Summon monsters, except "Nekroz" and "Zefra" monsters. This effect cannot be negated.
Monster Effect You can Tribute this card from your hand or face-up from your side of the field; Tribute monsters from your hand or field, then Ritual Summon 1 "Nekroz" Ritual Monster from your hand whose Level exactly equals the total Levels of those monsters. You can only use this effect of "Zefrasaber, Swordmaster of the Nekroz" once per turn.

Honestly not a bad card at all, it does the job of the mirrors and hasn't seen any play since the demise of the Shock Law lock. Therefore my bet is on Exomirror. If Konami really wants the deck gone, then we might seen some manner of Clausolus hit, likely a Semi.

Heroes:

Where do I start? The Infinity Darklaw play is deadly. As the format as whole goes, Heroes edge Nekroz as the best deck. Konami will aggressively put this deck down this time. Heroes have been around since Shaddolls. They faded last format after DDT was put down by the Instant fusion limit and thus escaped Konami's Shaddoll nuke. This time I think the Heroes luck has run out. How to fix the problem?

1) Ban Stratos

100% Will not happen. Masked Hero Blast, Stratos doesn't do much outside of be the occasional MST, if his wife weren't at 3 doing all the searching for him then maybe he wouldn't be a Heavy Storm on legs.

2) Shadow Mist

Arguably better than Stratos in a lot of regards and a key player in the Masked Hero Department. The card definitely needs a hit since heroes are too consistent. The only debate is a limit vs a Semi-limit

3) Dark Law

The cock block himself. This card is way too good to have at multiple, it just shuts down so many decks. At one it should be fairly easy to deal with given OCG's extensive trap line up.

4) Mask Change

This card may come of some surprise but it really shouldn't, a searchable quickplay out to most traps that opens Dark Law and such. None of the other Change cards are seeing any play. Masked Heroes make it so no other Hero build can top (except for the Occasional DDT turbo deck). Even with Mist limited, 3 CoTH, Goblin, Tin Gold, Soul Charge, Reborn, Monk, AHL @3...the ways to special Mist are many. It strikes the same nature as El-Shaddoll (limited) in its OTK nature. A limit will largely force out the current Hero builds

5) AHL

This card should not be at three. It's always live, an Instant Dark Law or Rank 4 depending on Mist or Stratos. Also Konomi will try very hard to eradicate the Law Infinity play. Guess that that T1 play needs. That's right AHL.

6) Elemental Hero Bubbleman

Currently Semi-ed I don't think this will move this format due to the Rank 4 spamability of it. Depending on if Heroes get more manageable, it might move next list.

7) Destiny Hero - Malicious

With both Shadow Mist and Stratos limited, OCG can and should go TCG's route and unlimit this card.

Qliphort

The deck took a sizable hit from last list with Saqlifice Limited, Scout Semi and Vanity limited. It's still the third best deck mainly because OCG lacks one of TCG's hits, Skill Drain being limited.

1) Skill Drain

This card had it's chance, and Qli's did not die, also Train Dolls are topping because of this card. A limit is well deserved

2) Qliphort Scout

With the new Odd Eyes Fusion, this deck becomes far more abusable. Qlimate Change and Pot Wealth are cards. A limit should really slow the deck down, but still allow playability.

Infernoids

Konami's Posterboy especially with the Monster Gate Unlimit. No hits will occur in my Opinion

Atlantean

This deck has largely quite'ed down. Like Qliphort I feel it has one more format before being really Shaddoll'ed (yes that is a term  ). However it will take some minor hits.

1) Atlantean Dragoons

Searches out the Elemental Lord and allows for the Trishula play that in total will rob 3 cards out of the opponents starting hand. This card should never have come to 2.

2) Deep Sea Diva & Neptyabyss

While some might say this is these cards that is bringing Atlanteans back, I believe the blame is shared along with dragoons. A limit is too harsh this list. I think a more gentle hit, such as a semi for both cards is more fair.

3) Mermail Abyssteus

Remember when it was called Mermail Atlantean? Pepperidge Farm Remembers. Moving this from limited to semi Limited, might bring more mermails into the deck, but wont break the deck.

Tellarknight

The main problem in this deck is it's ability to recover from the grave and go on a + train

1) Saellarknight Altair

Limit dat s***

planetellarknight train

I've seen a lot of (mostly TCG) players as for this card and Cyber Infinity to get banned. Neither will happen for 2 reasons.

1) A lot of decks are dropping Cyber Infinity + Nova due to Compul evac being the top trap of the format again. This means Nova is a huge weak point and a potential -3. Not only, the extra is tight as f*** at the moment. People are literally siding shockmaster and exciton to fit cards in. Infinity nor Nova will be hit.
2) Planetellar is seeing play for easy access into the Consteller bouncing bastard and MP2 Diamond with just 2 material. In fact it's seeing play @2 quite often. Banning it is really quite excessive due to Diamond nor Bounce Bastard being end all cards and clown blade needs to sell, and there needs to be something to reign Infernoids in post Dark Law getting limited. Limit Planetellar, misuse it and outside of Avarice or Digusto you have 2-3 dead cards sitting in your extra.
3) People who want Diamond Banned, the Genepool does not want you

Shaddolls

So this deck got assraped last format. Like its not even funny. Konami likely realizes that banning Construct was silly and not the greatest choice. They are also likewise not thrilled with Trap and Train Dolls topping (occasionally). In order to push Sibyl, but not let Shaddolls go crazy I believe 3 things will happen.

1) Construct Unban and limited
2) Winda Limited
3) Maybe Shekhinaga limited. Of the Shaddolls those three are easily the best and they largely outcroud the rest like the Water (Sibyls) and Fire (Volcanics)

Dragon Triforce

With Rulers banned, many people were surprised to see the Dragon Triforce (Rejuv, Ravine, Shrine) not move to 2-3. Here is what I think. Rejuv is still amazing due to half the red eyes tributeing. Shrine creates massive grave set up in Red Eyes. Ravine helps Eyes, but does it at a slower pace. I either see Ravine to 3 or Ravine and Shrine to 2, inb4 Konami puts both to 3

Notable Single Cards

Goyo Guardian - There is no reason that this card should be banned in OCG. Limit. We desperately need a good LV6 Synchro

Magician of Faith- This one is tough. One one hand DMoC was slowed down and unbanned, but on the other hand that may have been for the Chaos Support in DOCS. On a third hand Aether can keep cycling this card and reusing the power spells....ugh I'm ambivalent

Glow Up Bulb- With the recent Rank 4 spam deck epidemic, being like Hey! Toss this in and add Trish to your extraseems bad

Raigeki- Ark and some of his ORG buddies bet on this one. I don't like it cause HFD+Raigeki brings back pre Yata lock nightmares

Mezuki- This card has rotted @2 forever. Zombie ain't gonna top. Of the list please.

Formula Synchron- Didn't cause problems or see use @2 wont magically pull quasar out of it's ass @3

Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity- To 3, just to tell wind up hunter to go f*** itself. Honestly did nothing terrible at 2, 3 can happen

Bottomless Trap Hole- OCG has plenty of Trap removal and if the Ark's Errata theory is correct, we gonna get a new member. Trap Trix Engine is good but not broken. To 3 already

Chaos Emperor Dragon- Still one of the best cards in the game, a well placed CED can literally shatter the came and net you crazy advantages

Ring of Destruction- Too many decks play a low LP game. Multiple would be degenerate

Crush Card Virus- I'm tempted to say this can move up, but its a blow out card and they likely don't want Doom Virus turbo to go on rampage

Charge of the Light Brigade- OCG got solid LS support. This is over the top for a semi limit

Primal Seed- Ehhh CED and BLS, this card is far more live in OCG than it is in TCG. Then again the rumors of Chaos getting boosted in DOCS is a thing

Genex Ally Birdman- Would be a really nice boost to Synchro decks, especially now that both Mist Valley and Blaze Fenix are both limited

Thousand-Eyes Restrict - Instant Fusion is f***ing limited. Give me a break already damn it

Sangan- TCG yes, OCG not till TGU gets limited, which won't happen cause they need to sell the Extra pack in August full of BA's

Errata's

NeoArkadia wrote:
Updating on that:

Raigeki would be an easy card to push for the OCG.

And there's nothing stopping erratas from banned Battle City Cards.

And if they're willing to bend on definitions of who played what:
- Makyura the Destructor
- Card of Safe Return

Thing is they basically have to have this set sell on something besides the new cards and some out of print cards. Erratas being the most likely option, with the magazine coming this month, which has to advertise it in some manner.

NeoArkadia wrote:
What old as s*** DM stuff needs errata that's from Battle City.

Makyura the Destructor is coming to mind, but I'm blanking otherwise.

Edit:

Makyura the Destructor
Pot of Greed
Graceful Charity
Card of Safe Return
Giant Trunade
Premature Burial
Brain Control

The Ark has spoken. There can be some quick elimination from this. Pot of Greed. 2 Iconic

Makyura is an easy go, just slap the Temple clause on it

Safe Return with an OPT would be interesting to test out

Premature Burial literally needs the DDR clause, and maybe something like you cannot normal summon the turn you use it (Like Hidden Arsenal)

No Idea on Charity or Control

Trunade Need two things. Some to compensate the opponent, some to stop you from pushing for game then resetting all the cards.

Return all Spell and Trap Cards on the field to the hand. Your opponent gains 1000 life points for each card returned to the hand this way. You cannot activate Spells or Traps after's activation for the rest of the turn.

Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier- I had high hopes, but the next V-Jump card is some lv 12 f***er, so guess we wait till next list, also Atlantean is a deck

So my idea list:

Forbidden:

None

This is just my idealist list. Discuss, criticize, post your own lists, have a little fun!!

Yeah Yeah...I copied my thread from NAC cause retyping+Lazy

Sending Ptolemaeus to 1 doesn't really solve the main issue as most players only play one. I feel the best way to stop the Infinity spam is probably to outright ban the card. Ptolemaeus is poorly designed, more so than Infinity, and really shouldn't exist as a card in general.

Even more reason to ban ptolemaeus, in my opinion.

Ehh not really. Easy Diamond is what is keeping Infernoids from wreaking havoc. 3 Material into a planet, especially with Compuls as popular as it is now, makes Nova super weak. Not many decks can afford to go -3 of a compuls and still keep in the game. Only three actually. Heroes, Tellars, and Crown Blade...guess which (2) decks are going to be eradicated by this list

All I can think as I read this is Heroes and Nekroz got the freaking shaft. Heroes can probably still live, and will probably reach another shaft in the OCG if Mali ever goes to 3, but man, they got HIT. I am frightened tho of 2 Dragonfly and 2 Prep, but eh, they can get their stuff back if Nekroz is getting hit that bad

I think they are trying to kill the Tricklown OTK, which requires Construct

no, that's only one of the Tricklown OTKs.

Tricklown has a tuck fon of them.

Which is probably the reason for the slap on Assault Halberd's wrist, if this is legit.
