Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon

LIGHT

Lv 10

Dragon/Effect

3000 2500

This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by offering 1 "Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon" on your side of the field as a Tribute. Increase the ATK of this card by 300 points for each Dragon-Type monster in your graveyard. You can negate the effect of Spell, Trap, and Monster Cards that designate this card.

Was my favorite monster right up till Trishy Bae got made, card is oddly viable again with the new BEWD support as seen above. Anti-Target is nifty sheet, Azure makes it anti-destruction too. One of the few cards that can easily beat over Utopia the Lightning. Last effect doesn't activate so that's some nice sheet too. Thoughts?

How hard can it be to summon this guy in a new BEWD.dek? Never try it but . . . should i?

Still the easiest to summon it (i think) is via Summoner Illusion, also Shining is searchable by Priestess and Melody of Awakening.

But but, unless you have some protection (like Azure), this guy won't even survive long with the limited Raigeki, semi-limited Dark Hole, Unlimited any Mirror Trap or maybe Solemn? But still fun when you summon this and feel like a boss~

Get it on the field with Mound of the Bound Creator. With Malefic Blue-Eyes you could possibly work in some Malefic Stardust to keep that alive or something. I don't know, half an idea.

But then you remember Malefics prevent other monsters from attacking, making the notion of Malefics with this to be completely pointless.

This card would be so much better if it didn't require Ultimate Dragon. Red Eyes Darkness was only remotely usable because it needed regular Red-Eyes to Summon it. If this card had been the same way, it would probably be amazingly good, what with how much support Blue-Eyes has.

Not. It's weak in that either it has to face three Torrential, 3 BTH, 5 solemns or Raigeki and 2 Holes like you noted. Neither of which bode well for it.

Card would and should have had Killer clause

I know this card came out WAAAAAYYY before standard card grammar was a thing, but just reading this:

This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by offering 1 "Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon" on your side of the field as a Tribute. Increase the ATK of this card by 300 points for each Dragon-Type monster in your graveyard. You can negate the effect of Spell, Trap, and Monster Cards that designate this card.

Does "designate" == target, or does it even cover cases of selection?  If so this card is immune to things like Creature Swap, which while situational, is still pretty cool.  It's not your ordinary everyday anti-target.  It's advanced anti-target.

For the record, Blue-Eyes Shining's anti-targeting is a Quick Effect, NOT a Continuous Effect. It has not been reprinted since PSCT came out, which is why the text isn't obvious about the detail.

Damn, I'll compare the OCG wording to Azathoth, I was under the impression that it was neither and just didn't activate like the Evilswarm Double summon guy and Azathoth

The same thing happened with Relinquished. They couldn't get the text small enough, so they actually omitted the part about "Black Illusion Ritual". That problem persisted well into the GX era, until they were forced to make smaller text- I'm pretty sure the culprit was Ultimate Nightmare, but I shouldn't be quoted on that.

About the card itself, there's a reason I usually bring out DMK over this. It's way easier.
