Yale Students Vote to Repeal First Amendment

I'm glad my college isn't that PC. Plus those that voted for this are screwing themselves over, because:

Freedom of speech: allows them to say what they promote

Freedom of the press: they probably have some news source or publishers that publicize their stuff

Freedom of assembly: I bet they do that alot

Freedom of petition: allowed them to bring the "issue" up on the first place

Actually I see this as a good thing, that way they won't be able to openly promote their views anymore because without the 1dt amendment they can't do anything that a person with common sense would see as lunacy.

Why are you against religion TEW? has it wronged you somehow?

If I may, he may be opposed to extreme religion (killing in the name of God or a god) and the like).  Not that I'm attempting to speak for him, but I'm a Christian and extremists I refuse to put up with.  And in general, religion has been a hot topic for some time.  People have vandalized, and spewed hate because of something they believe.  Aniron may feel that is unjust (as do I) and such causes him to hate (dislike?) all religions.

PM me, I don't want to start PC thread p2 here, but yes, I have both a personal reason, and a logical reason that Dad largely nailed

On topic here, I think these kids are being silly, if I may say that, without the first they could be persecuted against for even saying something like this. There is a difference between promoting non hateful speech and repealing the first amendment, which Id hope people at Yale would know

Mostly because religion has killed millions in the name of fake little sky fairies. People need to actually learn to accept when they're dead they funking rot in the ground, and that they're nothing more than a collection of chemicals. It's not hard to see why someone would hate religion, especially the Abrahamic religions, which are basically 3 of the most toxic and cancerous things ever conceived by people to justify killing each other in the name of their god. I hate the Eastern religions less because they're more philosophies than religion and seem more grounded in reality and don't attempt to make people slaves of some fancy little sky fairy who refuses to actually do anything with it's omnipotence to actually sort the problems out, instead sits there watching thousands of it's "loved" creations die pointlessly, and wrathfully promotes burning and torturing those who don't believe in it. I'd rather go to Hell than be a slave. Satan's the best friend the church has ever had, he's kept it in business all these years while it rapes altar boys and spews hatred. The three Abrahamic religions are essentially worship of the world's first and most famous sociopath.

Of course, my hatred of the religion in itself is not a hatred of it's general practitioners, though I think you're all just sheep binding yourself to here-say. And no, I'm not just talking about Islam here, Judaism and Christianity are problems too, much less so in recent years, however. Islam just needs to go through the same reforms that Christianity went through after the mess of the KKK. People are sheet vats of chemical compounds and we'll find ways to be sheet to each other, now if only religion wasn't an utterly perfectly designed excuse for people to be sheet to each other. You get 80 or so years on this sheet little rock in space, make the most of it and just accept you're going to funking die at some point, I guess some people are just pretty unnerved by the finality of death. I mean as I said, I don't hate any of you people who practice religion until you come hurting people over some sheet your book told you to do. That being said, I think Anton LaVey hit the nail on the head. And no, LaVeyan Satanism isn't about sacrificing goats or even the worship of a deity, it just tells you to live for yourself and the people you care about.

As for these students, they're morons. I'm possibly one of the most liberal people on the planet, I believe practically everything that harms nobody else should be legal, and anything that harms you should be taken with the prior knowledge that it actually does harm you, you idiot.

There's a number of severe misunderstandings and incorrect concepts here, but I won't go into detail.  The point is, people are free to believe and say what they want.  It's all opinionated.  And you seem to have confused that with facts.

And since we're talking about liberals here (which I am) I can agree with your final statement.  Especially if it comes to guns.  Pro-gun.  Pro-gun-owner responsibility.  Safety classes should be mandatory for new gun owners.  But this is entirely different "liberal" talk in this article.

In fact, it's not even liberal.  It's so far left, it's extreme.  repealing the first amendment is literally, anti-American.  I'm surprised it's legal.

tbh with how little these students know you can probably get them to sign a petition to clone Hitler and put him in the White House.

No hate towards the people that practice the religion without impeding on others, I believe in freedom of religion as much as anyone else does, I don't agree with the concept of religion itself and I utterly despise how humanity uses it as a tool to harm.

I'd expect better common sense from those going to a Ivy League school.

Even if you don't like something, people have the right to say stuff in this country.

And yes, they are ironically trying to get the right that allows them to do this crap in the first place.

So yeah, hopefully others at Yale at least have the brains to not sign this, and certainly the government itself for not repealing the 1st Amendment.

------

Do those students want the United States to be like China/North Korea, where if you say even one bad thing about the government, you get arrested/killed?

This is pretty much what their request boils down to.

Yeah, you want to block hate speech; we get it, but even if you find it offensive, it's foolish to petition repealing the 1st Amendment.

It's been said a lot of times; even if you find someone's words to be offensive, they have the right to say it (even if it makes them look like a jerk).

Although you can choose to just ignore said people saying these things and walk away.

The world is not filled with pretty rainbows and other cute things; this is reality and whether you like or not, there are going to be bastards who continue to spew hate speech towards other people, because of nationality, sexual orientation, religion and whatever else.

Although I don't find the restricting of major freedom of speech constitutional I personally wouldn't mind these people who started this amending ordeal having their FoS taken away. Amd to think this is happening at Yale is beyond me. Just more displays on how people react on emotion and in an irrational manner in attempt to enact "social progress".

Why aren't there any other groups opposing them? Makes me wonder if these sjws silenced their opposition...unsettling.
