Sangan (Errata)

Recommended Posts

The real problem with it in Metalphosis is that they only have one in-theme target (Steeleren), and given set order, we're unlikely to have any more members this time around, much less targets for it.

If we do, that's kinda sweet.

Run Tour Guide in Dracopal: Summon Sangan, Pend Sorc, pop Sangan, search 2+1, add Friendonkey, Lizardraw, whatever.

Profit??

What? The limited Sorcerer that had one of his main searchers banned and the other limited?

Konami literally apologized for creating PEPE, they made sure pals were dead, and this time it is

Black, this is 2008. If you have only 1 target for Sangan, then you should still run Sangan.

1OCG Exclusive

2TCG Exclusive

3Pendulum Domination has no confirmed TCG release, and even Felgrand beats it to international shores, so may be OCG.

4OCG Exclusive, but the cards from the Jump Festa packs tend to get to the TCG fairly quickly, compared to other exclusives.

5Technically on the TCG list, not officially.

6TCG named, not released, iirc.

Card is still too good and will be in everything

It didn't need a nerf, but it's still functional this way. Retains all of its old issues and more, though, and a number of the weaker decks that DID want it now don't, such as Fabled or Synchrons. At least, not near as much as they did.

funk, everytime I disagree with you, I end up being wrong haha

We've gotten about 300 tops (decklists) using the new format, and I've seen a record 1 sangan used in it. While the argument might be made that sangan is hard to procure, Thousand Eye's last relevant reprint was in 2004 (with the one in 2011 being kinda hard to find) and people still run that funker.

Bottom line this errata has made Sangan vanish and likely be safe to go to 3

I'm not entirely sure if Witch would be safe with the same errata, but it likely would be

you'd be right more if u applied game context for every claim you make

Yeah that's totally fair.

The fact that there's no great way to special is really sucks cause being able to add a DD Crow off a Breaksword's scrap effect sounds really nice

I guess the final test will be to see if it does see more usage after the rule book comes out and the supply of it in the market increases, but I doubt it

https://ygorganization.com/ocg-new-rulings-for-sangan

Rulings for the new version, the Ruling most people are probably curious about:

Q: This turn, Sangan was Special Summoned by the effect of Mystic Tomato. If that Sangan is sent from the field to the Graveyard this turn, can I add a Mystic Tomato to my hand with its effect?
A: If the effect of Sangan is applied, afterward you cannot activate cards or effects with the same name as the monster you add to your hand. In this situation, you can add Mystic Tomato to your hand even though the effect of a card with that name was activated previously that turn.

Possible card:

Escape!

Quick-Play Spell

[Artwork of various other cards like Sangan, Chaos Emperor Dragon, and other monsters that were banned only to get off the list]

If your opponent would activate a card or effect that would remove 1 or more of your monsters from the field while they have more cards in their hand than you do: Negate that card or effect, and if you do, your opponent selects and discards cards from their hand until they have the same number of cards in their hand that you do (Cards discarded by this effect cannot activate their effects).

*is shot*

Also, Sangan looks reasonable now. Maybe reasonable enough to be unlimited?

The problem was always that he, and by extension Witch, were too flexible, too good at being enablers. They helped the problem children be even worse than they already were, so naturally they were hit. With this limitation, good old three-eyes might be able to safely hit 3.

No, it wasn't.

Sangan was never too good. He came close like 50% through the Synchro Era, but even then, he steadily got worse as the Synchro Era went on.

In the Xyz Era, he was mediocre... except he was the best 4th card for the TGU engine. He got banned to discourage generic TGUing, only for TGU to continue getting hit.

Flexible or not, a level 3 monsters that you either have to NS/go out of your way to set up and SS... Isn't good.

Even homes like Synchron or Fabled (Which are bad, mind you) don't like Sangan as much anymore, because it's too restricted.

The new version is really mediocre, if not bad, and not all cards SHOULD be aiming for going to 3. This was a perfectly fine card to limit.

Sangan was not a problem card, and most quality players can and will tell you such.

Idk about fabled, but remembering my Synchron days I still would have used this as he wouldn't stop the plays until you actually search with him, which would usually be the last thing you did for the turn, making the restriction nothing at all.

With all the support they got, they wouldn't want this. You don't care about handtraps in a deck like that, you care about making unfair boards ASAP.

Your few NSs are far more important than this.

This is true even without the new restriction, though, so the restrictions still didn't do anything.

It removed the ability to be an extra doppel or whatever else, like the warrior handtrap.

IE its marginal utility is lost.

When was sangan aggressively used in the meta?

Don't remember that fabled'd meta (ALL THE PUNZ INTENDED)

The old TGU-Rabbit play is still intact is it not?

Point being, set summon Sagan pass was usually how it went. If anything this errata is needed because cards like Sky Iris and P-Sorc exist now.

The errata is relevant for OCG at the moment, not TCG. OCG has enough 1&2 scales to PS this as well.

Thankfully they clarified the effect of Sagan, so if you place your opponent under Maxx, you can still search another copy for another turn. It's not bad at all.

Bigger Question, would witch be safe to bring back with this errata?
