Assault Blackwing – Onimaru the Divine Swell

Recommended Posts

3k and protection for something that's easily made with mourning wind and harmattan is good enough for me. Not amazing, not awful.

This is true, but here's the problem:

Doom + Whirlwind is all the setup you need for that, so not going to say it over and over.

  1. Doom NS
  2. Doom effect (4 -> 3)
  3. Drop Harmattan, target Doom (2 -> 5)
  4. Omega, Scarlight, and a plethora of good Lv. 8s are at your disposal. Also the Blackwinged Dragons for banter.

So then

  1. Doom NS
  2. Drop Harmattan, target Doom (2 -> 6)
  3. Leo

And to continue

  1. Doom NS
  2. Drop Harmattan, no effect
  3. Nothung

It's just worse to go into than the other options you can do with the same setup. Moreso when you consider how the +3K effect isn't online.

Not as much as I expected but the first Generic LV12 Synchro is noteworthy enough for that reason alone.

It's only viable with Sohaya tbh and there's really not much reason to run Sohaya unless we get a BW that makes Sohaya optimal.

You missed the part where somebody pointed out Stardust Charge and Coral Dragon make this just fine didn't You?

I mean, let's change that slightly.

I guess you can go:

Whirlwind

Doom -> Harmattan.

Make Nothung.

NS Blizzard, revive Harmattan

Harmattan effect, go 4

Make Coral Dragon

But that's... that still isn't worth it. Not for a 6K attacker. Yes, that makes for burst kills, but devoting all of your turn to this alone is just begging to lose, and how are you assembling coral + charge?

What deck reliably summons 2 Level 6 synchros in a turn?

It's not bad, but I really am not sure it's worth deckspace, given how many hoops you have to jump through to burst kill.

Sohaya, as in the level 5, as in the card that makes quasar ridiculously easy or auto revives Nothung/Raikiri?

You know what would have been pretty funny about This card, honestly? If upon being Summoned, it searched Whirlwind.

Sadly too late, they need a faster way to access it. Well if you have raikiri in your grave and have a blizzard or tornado that can go into sohaya, if you add gofu you can get 5 shots of targeting destruction and end with raikiri + onimaru resulting in an OTK. So they now have a 2-card otk that removes several cards.

That requires a lot more dedication than just making sohaya when you already have a raikiri in grave for an on-demand 6k beater.

Onimaru's not something you want to turbo into anyways

If you've been able to make Raikiri already you should have won. The only time this will see play is if people can Turbo it.

when all you need to make this is Doom + Harmattan, it's really not too late.

That would actually give this card the edge it desperately needs.

There are a number of ways this card could have been better, as you've said. I feel it will remain a go for game option only.

Though he gives me hope Kusanagi may turn out decent.

The problem with going for game with it is that it is not stupidly easy to make like that.

You can use Sohaya in the lategame, but that's pretty fair, given that it is only a value play if your Raikiri/Chidori is dead.

Oh right, and Chidori exists. Who is effectively a 3200+ beater with a float effect, though the float isn't amazing modern day. Why go into this when there's a very good chance that this is big enough/bigger in the lategame? Immunity to effect destruction isn't really an edge over Chidori, in the going for game sense.

The easiest thing to compare this to is Shiranui Shogunsaga. Both are 3K, both are based around becoming absurdly sized beaters, etc.

However Shogunsaga is very easy to summon in almost any setup, where this takes more particular setups. This also means that Shogunsaga can be good against Kozmo, where this is... Okay I guess? I mean, I guess the effect protection is nice, but then Dark Destroyer just rams it. At least Shogunsaga has a float/can be paired with Abyss Dweller with ease in the same turn you make it. This requires so many hoops to get it + dweller that it's ridiculous.

This is only worth it if you summon it with all Synchros, but that's not especially easy to do, even with Sohaya. Especially with how 5 isn't exactly the most common level in BW. Yes, Oroshi exists, doesn't mean it's the most common level.
