Europe gets worse by the day. What next, nudity in public legalized? Masturbating in public, if it's out of the sight of minors, is not an illegal act, the Supreme Court of Italy has ruled in a case concerning a 69-year-old man who was caught masturbating on a bench in front of a group of college students. Stormtrout
This...is quite sad. Europe gets worse by the day. What next, nudity in public legalized? It's legal in New Orleans during Marde Gras, so I don't see why not.
Ryusei the Morning Star
Does this apply to women too? That's the real question? If so I'm moving to Italy
LordCowCowCowCowCowCowCowCow
On one hand I don't particularly care especially since it's not in front of minorsOn the other hand this is forcing people to have to deal with something they really shouldn't have to, just because someone...couldn't find a place to do it? Idk, seems quite backwards.

D.A._Sakuyamon
In what way is this in the right direction? Honestly curious of your reasoning.Because as I see it, although it is technically not really something you want to look at while in public it is at the end of the day just another bodily function. Think of it as one step closer to breaking one of the less important norms of society.

IQuitDolphin
Because as I see it, although it is technically not really something you want to look at while in public it is at the end of the day just another bodily function. Think of it as one step closer to breaking one of the less important norms of society. This isn't an issue of health though. Looking at public masturbation as no more than a basic bodily function is turning a blind eye to the morality of doing such an action. The very acceptance of public masturbation is the destruction of decency. I don't think any reasonable and honest person would want to see a guy jerk off in public while walking around in a city. IQuitDolphin
I will not deny the human inclination toward sexual behavior; it's in our nature. And I have seen evidence suggesting the benefits of masturbation. I have no qualms against regular masturbation, it is public masturbation that I have an issue with. Aerion Brightflame
I will not deny the human inclination toward sexual behavior; it's in our nature. And I have seen evidence suggesting the benefits of masturbation. I have no qualms against regular masturbation, it is public masturbation that I have an issue with. Which is solely based on a moral outrage then. Which again is an implication that there is some moral issue with the action being performed that renders it indecent when privacy is removed. And hence, you have an issue with the social construct that has left sex and nudity being essentially taboo issues. Which is expected given the general opposition to nudity you see within America and the American media (And the fact you framed public nudity as being worse than the public committal of a sexual act). However a lot of Europe is a lot more open a loose when it comes to sex and nudity than the US (Like Amsterdam's famous red light district), so this law isn't that shocking. It is surprising that it passed in Italy without Berlusconi in charge, because this is the sort of law you'd expect that corrupt perverted old bastard to pass. Urayne
Guys? What if the guy was turned into stupid by age? He proboly didnt know it was wrong anymore.... Ire
Note that he still shall be fined, which is not anecdotic. The case has been sent back to local courts in Catania to determine exactly what the administrative fine -- between €5,000 ($5,651) and €30,000 ($33,912) -- will be.Source
Snatch Steal
Right when I thought Italy couldn't get any gayer. Idk though, there are some ugly people in the world. Like, if a dude yanks it out in front of me and he's a depraved old freak I wouldn't particularly be happy, considering that's still indecent exposure. I guess Europe is all about that naturalist life. It's an aesthetic, to say the least.

epicmemesbro
The average mentally healthy individual is not usually inclined to masturbate in public, usually those that are mentally ill and are prone to engaging in socially unacceptable acts. This is only going to enable these people to do so. Also, do you believe that moral degeneracy is at an all time high in Europe as a whole? (And the fact you framed public nudity as being worse than the public committal of a sexual act). However a lot of Europe is a lot more open a loose when it comes to sex and nudity than the US. .I beg to differ. Have you heard of the term "sex sells", its origins are from U.S. advertising which is far from prudish. Fast food adverts even capitalize on this.... Not that I care about this but it is worth pointing out. Even children are being influenced by the media to try to act and look more like an adult. There was a documentary on this, i suppose i can dig it up. It has more to do with marketing ploys however.

vla1ne
we're one step closer to becoming japan... it's actually genius. you can't be arrested, but if i read that correctly, you can still be fined, it's essentially the state telling you to pay up to get your rocks off in public. keeps the prisons a lot clearer, and gets the state more money regardless. if you've got the cash, you can fap till your heart's content, but i'd assume broke folk will still get no leniency if they can't pay up.
