I'm a Christain and believe very strongly in God. But I still respect people and their other beliefs. God said those who believe in him will go to Heaven, but the people are given a choice to go a different belief. Yes, I sometimes invite friends to my church. If they say no, I take no offense what so ever.

I was talking about God and religion with my old biology teacher today after school and he showed me this letter someone wrote to George Bush. I found it to be epic and I lol'd extremely hard at it.

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from you and understand why you would propose and support a constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage. As you said' date=' "in the eyes of God marriage is based between a man a woman." I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate.

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God's Laws and how to follow them.

[b']Leviticus 25:44[/b] states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighbouring nations. A friend of mine claims that this law applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanness - Lev.15: 19 - 24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odour for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbours. They claim the odour is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

I have a neighbour who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself or should I ask the police to do it?

A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there "degrees" of abomination?

Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle-room here?

Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

I know from Lev. 11:6 - 8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? - Lev.24:10 - 16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

Mr Bush, I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

When I was reading the first part of this, I was like, "Holy sheet, boys, we've got a sane one!"

But, then, I read the boldface. What the hell? "I respect people's beliefs, but believe that, as a result of said beliefs, they'll be eternally damned"...

How much sense does that make? You silly geese, you!

^ I'm just stating what I believe in, but I still respect others.

Plus, going to a different belief doesn't mean they'll immediately go to Hell. We'll never know what happens. There's a big difference between believing and knowing. I don't know if Heaven is truly real, but I really believe in it. That's religion for you.

You know what the funny part is (to me)? It's fortold in the Bible that not every person would believe' date=' that athetism and it's worldly habits are again, a test. It is a [i']test[/i] to be challenged by those who put their logic above all other reasoning. "I publicly praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and intellecutal ones, and have revealed them to the babes." -Jesus Christ

Then we get questioned as to why God makes go through these "tests" instead of just taking us as we are, and bringing us to heaven. It is the fally of man to be born into sin, and if we can prevail over it (no one man can entirely) then we are rewarded with heaven as paradise. That is why we do what we do. That is why we keep our beliefs. That is why no atheist, no matter what your logic or reasoning, can take from me what I hold true.

You can flame me, you can criticize my reasoning, you can kill me. But you cannot remove my beliefs. Period.

I LOVE YOU MAN!!!!!!! :D Seriously though I always did like it when people voiced their opinions and didn't care what people thought of it. It's always worth respect.

I can honostly say that I have no idea weather or not god, heaven or the whole nine yards are real. I believe in god because I believe in the fact that "Something can't be born from nothing" isn't acctually right in my regard. It makes ya wonder how the entire universe came into order than. For that matter mabye all the other universes leading up to the first one. Where do ya think that came from. That's a question I don't think will ever be answered. Yes I believe in the multiverse theory If you don't like it I REALLY DONT CARE!!!!

What I'm basically saying is there are things that even science and basic knowledge can't answer.

There's one thing that makes this truly hilarious:

The fact that no one is perfect except the man sitting on the throne. He who is without sin shall cast the first stone, so you cannot fulfill everything in the bible to it's fullest extent, and the fact that this is why we repent.

I don't have a religion.

My opinion on the Bible, Qaran, and Torah are that they have been interpreted badly which created the religions.

Instead, I think they should have been interpreted how I interpret them, as guidelines of morals or lessons to live by instead of being thought of as literal.

Maybe I'm just being stupid, but I honestly think that the world would be much better off if they were interpreted as morals or lessons rather than as actual events.

The thing I find most funny about that letter, is that several lines are ripped off from The West Wing.

Really original.

But, discussing Christianity, Christians believe that those requirements were fulfilled with the coming of Jesus, which is why they are not observed.

For Jews, they believe that those rules represented the best wisdom of that time, but that they are not applicable to today.

It's really a stupid arguement, it's like insulting a Frenchman today for the Middle Ages, or the French Revolution.

I believe in god because I believe in the fact that "Something can't be born from nothing" isn't acctually right in my regard

We are allowed to replace "something" with "God", as God, assuming it exists, is something.

We can also replace "born" with "created", as they are synonyms.

Using your logic: "God cannot be created from nothing."

Here is a challenge for all of you. Find me a religious book that has been proven to be right a majority of the time. Then I'll follow your religion.

Well that was knowledgeable of you, because you know damn well, nothing on this earth can be proven to be 100% flawless. And if it can, then it is perfect, but because nothing is perfect, nothing is flawless. But because I can't prove my beliefs, that makes them a folly, and me a fool, right? Because I can't call down God and ask Him to show Himself, that means he doesn't exist right? There is no possible way, that I should have the right to hold on to something that isn't there, right?

^You misinterpret.

Dªrĸ is trying to say that there is no proof of how God came to be in the first place.

No s***. Just like there's no origin of the moon' date=' or proof that there is life beyond this galaxy. But guess what? It's still there.

But those can be assumed logically. God not so much.

God cannot be assumed? What exactly do you mean? He cannot be understood? He cannot be found to be creator logically? Gimme a map here. >.>

The ever-expanding vastness of the galaxy implies that the conditions that brought life to Earth could very well occur millions of times on other planets. The moon is right there and plain to see, and I'm sure there actually is a scientific explanation on why it's there.

God's existence doesn't have any evidence factually and when looked at morally doesn't make much sense either.

God doesn't make sense because he has not provided his reason for being to man. This is why we sit back and wonder if He really exists. You can't explain where the Big Bang's exact existence came from can you? Not the particles and molecules and electrons, and all that sheet, but it's very first spark.

Where did all the rocks and whatever come from? Nothing?

Link to comment

Dark already explained why this reasoning is flawed. Because then God wouldn't of existed without something to create himself. And if he was made alongside the Big Bang, then it could have happened without him either. And by using the he was always there logic, there is no point in making the argument that everything came from nothing as that could also work with the matter and anti-matter pre Big Bang.

While there may very well be a higher power, claiming that he exists with such certainty is silly in comparison to things like the moon and extra terrestrial life. While nothing is certain, you can make assumptions based on the facts laid in front of you. My conclusion is that devotion in a god is pointless given the possibilities of one existing, and that most of the ones worth believing in don't care if you believe in them or not, just that you're a generally good person. That's another loophole, but I don't really want to get into it.

Okay, let me give a reasoning as to why God exists.

1- Lets assume that universes exist in infinite numbers, as is currently theorized.

2- Lets assume that within these various universes, there is 100% probability for everything possible occurring at least once within an individual universe.

3- Lets assume that within infinite universes, with infinite governing principals, that all things may be possible to exist.

4- Let assume that an omnipotent, omniscient being is called "God"

4- Thus, an omnipotent, omniscient being can exist.

5- Thus, an omnipotent, omniscient being does exist.

6- Thus, by the nature of being omnipotent and omniscient, this being exists in all universes.

7- Thus, this omnipotent, omniscient being exists within our universe.

8- Thus, God exists.

I have plenty more, if you want to see them.

^That's a little falacy called "begging the question", when a proposition which requires proof is assumed without proof. Not only is literally half that argument based on assumptions, but you lacked an explanation as to why those assumptions could logically be assumed beyond mere theory. Even if we give you all of that, it would lead to a deistic God rather then the Abrahamic one, but I assume your goal wasn't to prove the existence of the latter, so I wont get into that.
