Meta, we need to talk

Recommended Posts

Alright, it seems like the Meta is broke beyond repair. If the meta was a window, Konami has smashed it with a baseball and then used the baseball bat to repeatedly break it "Office Space" style. My question is this: Is the meta truly "Broke beyond repair"? The ban list allows for only one royal oppression, essentially forcing players to pick decks that let them draw and summon fast. Cards that, before, would be considered amazing aren't even being looked at now, and some are even being considered noob cards. Field nukes like dark hole are only minor setbacks for most decks. Mass special summoning from the graveyard is allowed, no, required, in most tier 3+ decks. FTKs are no longer a rarity, and OTKs occur in almost every duel. The winner of a duel is more often than not the winner of the rock paper scizzors match at the beginning of the duel.

So, with all of that being said...how can it be fixed?

I haven't been looking at the meta much lately but... what's topping to make the meta like that? last I checked I saw a bunch of different Decks being run around. Six Samurais and X Sabers outstanding a little above all, and Fabled Decks were everywhere (although most said they weren't good enough/weren't meta). Then at some point I started hearing about Hyper Librarian and Shooting Quasar (one of which is not ever released yet here and the other just barely recently became legal).

What are these FTK Decks you speak of? =0
I have the hunch you speak of some Plant Variant and Fishies.. if that's the case, the meta should have a clear repair.

Mass revival. Call of the Haunted, Monster Reborn. Hyper Librarian can let you draw out your deck, and soon future fusion will be a 1-card ftk. Ftks aren't a new concept, they've been around for a while. A lot of cards can special summon themselves from the graveyard, or special summon something else when they die.

If you guys ask me, the best way to fix the meta is if there was a limit of non-token special summons that could be done a turn, possibly 3 or 4.

Actually, if you payed attention, the meta is actually more balanced than some of the previous years. Granted, the meta is very fast but that is expected with age. It wasn't like the times in where if you get a Chaos monster, DAD or Substitoad on the field, you win the duel. There are actually a diverse amount of decks winning instead of like 2-4 different deck types always winning. If you payed attention to the YCS placings, you would see.

Experimental Alternate Advanced Format:
Initial Life Points: 10 000
Minimum Deck Size: 50 cards
Maximum times a player can Special Summon per turn: 5 (equal to the Monster Zones and still allowing for a 1-turn Synchro/Fusion/Xyz,)
Normal Monster Rule: Level 5 vanillas need no Tributes, Level 7 vanillas need 1 Tribute, everything else as is.
+obligatory list change.

^I could see a few casual players trying suggestions and see what happens. As for your suggestion, Konami would maybe eventually update the cards in such a way that we would fall again in this. While further outclassing older cards (just a theory)

I'm actually liking the Meta, its seems really diverse to me, which is nice because you don't feel like you play the same person over and over with those stupid SixSam, X Saber and GK Decks...
Issue is, its really hard to know what to place in your Side Deck, since you have no way of even guessing what you'll be going against...

I don't really have an issue with this game other than the price of cards, which makes it near impossible for me to jumo in and start playing IRL...

The meta as it stands right now, is that Plants ARE the best deck, but practically any deck can win a YCS.

This meta is why they sent people back in time in 5ds.

Also:

A deck type with a Breaker, a D-Draw, a Zombie Master, a free 2100 beatstick out of nowhere, a super Monarch, a field nuke, a Man Eater Bug that destroys S/Ts as well, and a huge attack boost from the hand during damage calculation isn't considered broken in this terrible, terrible meta.

If they are the best deck, then why do they die against Jurracs?
