Ogre's effect:
You can send this card from your hand to the Graveyard; add 1 "Garbage Lord" from your Deck to your hand. You can only use the effect of "Garbage Ogre" once per turn.
Lord's effect:
You can Special Summon this card (from your hand) by paying 2000 Life Points. This card cannot be used as an Xyz Material for an Xyz Summon, except for the Xyz Summon of a DARK monster.

Ogre can double as a Guide Target.
Ogre searches, basically, a Cyber Dragon.
Ogre and Lord both are Targets for Dark Eruption.
Lord can make Shark Fortress or Adreus.
And if you want to be extreme, both are viable targets for Gates.
Personally, I love these two.
Why would that be a bad thing? It makes this card more playable outside of it's DARK-Xyz-specific restriction.
I'm just saying that, around the time of this card's conception, they may have been too focused on Xyz Monsters to have considered that it would have applications outside of being used as an Xyz Material. Heck, I'm actually glad that that's the only restriction they gave it.

TGU into Ogre

Bounce Ogre to summon Birdman

Discard Ogre to search Lord

Summon Lord

Level 8 Synchro

????????????

If that combo starts with Cyber Dragon or any other Level 5 is thrown in, you can synch TGU with Birdman for a Level 6 Synchro and make a Rank 5 Xyz.

Fixed.

OT: It's quite a neat little engine, and ever since warning was limited, I think it's become a little better since it's easier to use without getting into where you commonly dead draw warning.

This.
(Though, it's hard to say you ever dead draw Warning)

I personally adore the Garbage Duo. They have a lot going for them, being Level 3 DARK Fiend that searches a Level 5 DARK Fiend with 0 ATK that can be dropped from the hand. The problem really is that it breaks the rule that "Life Points don't matter" by taking a chunk of your life points for an Xyz. Sounds good on paper, and maybe the right deck can execute it, but I've yet to find it.

I think allowing it to be Synchro Material or Tributed was deliberate. Why? Because you pay 2000 LP to SS it. Paying 2000 LP is more than enough of a cost. The DARK Xyz only is to prevent Rank 5 abuse, and since we have several very solid Rank 5s...this is justified. It lacks the Cyber Dragon clause of controlling no monsters, and it doesn't cost another card like The Tricky, so no loss in card advantage, and it doesn't require you to run a specific archetype like OOPArts Moai does.

It also encourages you to use it the way it was intended: For Heart-eartH. And if you can alter its level, there are other DARK Xyz you can use it for.

They definitely remember the Synchro use, but compared to other Level 5 SSers, this has limited abuse because it costs a huge chunk of LP.

It didn't need the DARK restriction. Instant fusion can already give you almost any level 5 type or attribute for half the cost and lets you make whatever rank 5 you like. There are already a lot of cards which do it better than Garbage Lord and 2K life is a lot to pay just to bring out a 0 ATK beater which is only going to be used to make a restrictive -1 Xyz/Synchro summon. He's not bad, but not certainly not great either.
