How Johnnys plays Yugioh - A guide to hoop jumping

Recommended Posts

If this is the wrong section for this, please move it.
(Even though this section is about card and combo discussion, this is the later)

First things first: Disregard everything metagame.

Despite the fact I found this image off Google, it still seems appropriate:
tumblr_ludd2kOlsA1r1eamoo1_500.png
And I'll even quote TvTropes, to give you the general idea:

Johnny, Combo Player plays as a form of self-expression. The more customization there is in the game, the more room there is for Johnny, because Johnny thrives on taking the pieces the game gives them and making something uniquely his own. Johnny might spend more time designing his deck (army) (skill tree) (equipment set) (whatever) than playing it, and possibly enjoys it more. He lives for the strategy that makes your eyes bug out.

Anyway...

SO, YOUR READING THIS, BECAUSE YOU WERE CURIOS AS TO WHAT ARM HAS TO SAY, HUH?
Well don't worry, it's not anything too complex, just a way to duel to give you different ideas based on card potential.
I mean, lets be honest; Anything can look good on paper. But, are you sure about that? Because there's more to deck building then just throwing a pile of 40 cards together and/or using someone else' recipe.

300px-PreventRatMRD-NA-C-UE.jpg And 300px-SoulTigerDR2-EN-C-UE.jpg
OMG ARM UR SUCH A SCRUB FOR USING THESE AND NOT DINOSAURS!!!!1!11one
No. Your assuming too much.
You think I'm already crazy for using such cards, along with Rabbit, but hear me out~

Both Rat and Tiger have in common; 2000-ish DEF walls and both have 500 or less ATK, on a Level 4 body.
300px-DebrisDragon-AP01-EN-UtR-UE.png
Now we have 2 Rank 4 engines going; Rabbit from the Deck, Debris from the Graveyard.

BUT DOOD, DEY BOTH SEMI'D. U KANT SEARCH 4 CRAP CUZ SANGAN DIED~
*Manly tear* Yes, Sangan died. but we must move passed that, if we wish we to make him proud.
300px-RedoxDragonRulerofBoulders-LTGY-EN And 300px-TempestDragonRulerofStorms-LTGY-EN
But were not quite there-
300px-GoldSarcophagus-LCYW-EN-C-1E.jpg And 300px-UnicornBeaconDREV-EN-SR-1E.jpg
Sarcoph lets you trigger Tempest/Redox to grab Debris or Tempest/Redox(Respectively).
OR
Sarcoph can Banish your Rabbit, to which you fetch from Beacon. And at the same time you can use Beacon with Tempest/Redox, to not only get your Rabbit right away, but also search for Debris/Reborn(Redox basically is this, anyway)
Beacon also becomes more live, as you can Banish Rat/Tiger/Rabbit to give yourself a 3000 DEF wall, and at the same time gives you something to recover with said Beacon.
300px-ChainDogSTBL-EN-R-1E.jpg And 300px-InfernoRecklessSummonSDMM-EN-C-1E.
With Debris and Redox floating around in our deck, and Rat/Tiger both having 1500 or less, this easily leads into you following up with Inferno Reckless. Or if you lack Reckless, and just use Redox with another of our Normals, we can instantly pull Chain Dog from the Graveyard.
300px-DaigustoEmeral-HA07-EN-ScR-1E.png, 300px-Number91ThunderSparkDragon-REDU-EN And 300px-DiamondDireWolf-CBLZ-EN-ScR-1E.png
Emeral not only lets you recycle your your Normals for future Rabbit plays, but also revives said monsters for even more potential Chain Dog shenanigans and/or Xyz Summons.
Thunder Spark is if you really need that extra push to remove the Opponent's opposition and/or the monsters they gained off Inferno Reckless.
Dire Wolf is a little self explanatory, in the sense that you can very easily generate enough fodder to get away with his effect, and not lead to hurting yourself too much.
Deck was made with very little staples, just to further showcase the ideas in this OP

k5JBp72.png

...Ignore the empty Side Deck, please
EDIT: IGNORE THE BLACK ROSE/FAIRY DRAGON, I GOOFED, AND FORGOT TO REMOVE THOSE WHEN BUILDING THIS
So for the most part, this is how I would make a deck around Rabbit; Actually utilizing Rabbit for what it's truly meant for, and not just a way to give you an instant Laggia, and render your 3rd Dinosaur and 2nd Rabbit useless.

But what does any of this have to do with being a Johnny Combo Player, and using a deck that's based on a concept/idea?
Why, everything of course! Because once you've built such a deck, you suddenly realize that you've made a deck that makes it's living off unique plays, and dueling with style!
And I bet you never even realized you did it, too. That's the beauty of it; You get to let your imagination run wild, and construct something that's genuine, and purely made with your own deck making skills, from your ability to find consistencies between various cards, and lead to a deck that makes an amazing play off something you made all by yourself.

Go ahead, give it a try.
You might just enjoy yourself ;)

I found this very interesting. Makes me want to try it out.

Also, how do you summon Black Rose Dragon and Ancient Fairy Dragon without level 3s? That has been bothering me for a while.

*Head-desk*
Whoops...
I forgot why I included those in the first place, and just omitted them all together from the OP.
The fact I actually wrote about them, was a little silly on My end.

Please, i've been doing this longer than any of you have.  Have I ever been the meta player or follower of the pack? =/

Oh, it was mostly on a whim that I decided to make this.
(Plus, I've likely been doing this as long as you have... Heh...)

I'm bumping this topic.
You know why?
Cuz' Poki Draco:
300px-PokiDracoGENF-EN-C-1E.jpg
At first glance-
It's just a weird little gadget-esque monster. who runs this?
OH HOW LITTLE YOU KNOW~
Because deep within the heart of this adorable little Dragonite Dragon, beats the heart of a true champion.
300px-BeastlordVolcan-PR03-JP-C.png And 300px-TempestDragonRulerofStorms-LTGY-EN
Volcan's effect: http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Beastlord_Volcan
But Arm, those two are totally unrelated to Poki-
I'm real happy for you, and ima let you finish..
300px-BrotherhoodoftheFireFistSpirit-CBL And 300px-DebrisDragon-AP01-EN-UtR-UE.png
What do Spirit and Debris have to do with Poki, you may ask?
300px-ExploderDragonwing-RGBT-EN-UR-1E.j And 300px-BigBangShot-BP01-EN-SFR-1E.png

300px-BrotherhoodoftheFireFistLionEmpero And 300px-BrotherhoodoftheFireFistHorsePrinc
Omg Arm dis is so complex
But your still absorbing all this, aren't you?
Now if you already don't see it the way I do-
-Poki searches for more Pokis. If he can do that, his job is successful, and you've already got the ball rolling.

-Tenki can grab Spirit, which in turn, Spirit makes Vulcan.

-Vulcan can bounce your Tenkis to set this play up again OR if your playing Bang Shot, you can bounce it to Banish an Opponent's monster at the same time. Just re-equip Bang onto Vulcan and you can run around with his boosted ATK(2400 is cool, shoosh) and piercing damage.

-Blaster requires you to Discard another FIRE to destroy a card on the field; Discard that Poki you added to your Hand, and help clear the field for safer plays.

-Debris can make Exploder, off Poki. Or if you want, make Black Rose. Field nukes are cool.

-Exploder Dragonwing is absolutely amazing, if it hits the field. Especially if the Opponent lacks backrow cards(*Cough* Blaster). You can even buff him up to 2800 if you play Bang Shot. You may think that extra 400 isn't worth it, but Dragonwing can even tie with an Opponent's monster and still use his effect to plow it over. Things like Crimson Blader and Scrap Dragon? Please. Dragonwing just turns them into pure 2800 damage.

-Because your almost guaranteed to Banish a Tempest whenever the hell you feel like it, you just search for Debris to make more Exploders. Why? Cuz' Exploder wins games, and you run Debris because of that.

-Horse and Lion Horse can grab Spirit/Poki out of thin air; This in turn, gives you set-up for additional plays. Because if the Opponent leaves them on the field, you can go right ahead and make Exploder/Horse/Lion/etc. If they don't? Just Banish them for Blaster and return fire with your 2800 beater. 3200, if equipped with Bang Shot. Lion, on the other hand; Between Lion, Blaster, and Poki, it's a match made in heaven. Poki searches copies of itself, check. Blaster discards Poki to blow up cards, check. Lion recovers your Blaster, to keep on destroying things, the best check of all.

-Why am I promoting Big Bang Shot? Nobody uses it. But that's just it. That's the beauty of it. In this sort of deck, how the hell is it going to dead draw on you? You want your monsters Banished, and at the same time your helping them remove other threats/beaters out of your way for you, and dong additional damage in the process. Defense Position? Please. Your Opponent's monsters might as well prepare their anuses when your Opponent suddenly realizes they can do piercing damage, and just effortlessly trample over their defenses.
But that Banish zone seems pretty useless, though...
Please, what do I look like, some kind of square?
300px-ReturnfromtheDifferentDimensionSDL And 300px-DDRDifferentDimensionReincarnation+ 300px-GoldSarcophagus-LCYW-EN-C-1E.jpg
Decklist plz?
Normally this is the part of a post like this in which I post an example build, but decks centered around Poki Draco can look like anything, just because of how overly supported Poki Draco truly is.

Enjoy ;)

I don't mean to be a debbie downer, but if I'm going to include the best cards in the game at the moment why not just play the best deck? Yeah, you have a bunch of cute plays, but that's it. You don't really put the game state in your favor. Maybe if the game wasn't so bad these would be cool decks. But its not. Both sample decks don't have a lot of card economy. Prevent Rat and Soul Tiger suck so much to draw, even worse than drawing Kabuzals. If you draw 2 vanillas in the "New rabbit" deck, you probably won't be winning unless your other 4 cards are the stone cold nuts. The best part about your cute decks is when you use the sub-par cards to utilize the game-breakers...but then why not use cards that have better card economy, such as the baby dragons.

Cool idea, wrong format. (unfortunately).

You don't play these decks for the competitive value.  You play them because they're original and play in a unique way.  And actually Armz.dek is quite competent.

This is a beautiful thread.

I always enjoy making these sorts of decks. I even enjoy them when they are not up to the power level at all.

Right now I have a WATER deck that uses Legendary Ocean, and takes pride in using Rabca and Needle Sunfish (which has proven to be one of the most fun cards I've ever played, even if a tad weak. I just love the concept behind it).

Another of my decks revolves around forcing Defense on your opponent, and is actually an aggressive-type deck. It just runs Swords of Concealing Light, Tragedy, Colossal Head, Shield Crush, Informer Spider, Madolche Baaple, Curse of Anubis.

Actually, I should go make DN version of those (yes I made them IRL).

Also, have you concidered Dark Desertapir? It works with Sarcophagus AND Beacon. I often run it in casual Beast builds.

EDIT:

I'd say this theme is pretty original of mine to have:
