[YCM]Possible Change to TCG section rules

Recommended Posts

tl;dr - Topic creators post must have some mildly relevant thing to discuss regarding the card or combo or archetype.

No longer would it just be: "Card name. Card Effect. Picture of Card. URL to wiki. Discuss."

And even dumb bare bones shit like: "I used this in a duel against [decktype]. It went okay." or "Hurr, here's a screenshot I took from DevPro or DN!" would be acceptable.

Agree? Disagree? Some other third option?

Also, this topic isn't against the rules. Trust me, I'm a doctor.

I agree, I rarely see the posters even comment at all in the post, they just post the newest card from some set, and that's it. I probably have done the same at some point, but when I post a card in there, I try to give my opinions and views on the card, either if it's a new card, or some random I just found. So yeah, this should be a rule in my book. And it regards to this, what about the actual commenters? They do the same pretty much. It feels like a lot of spam in there mostly. As well as posts about the same card that has been discussed very recently. I know that it's an annoying job to have to manage, but just throwing it out there.

I agree with this fully.

Even if it's not much, it might actually improve posting standards in TCG. Even for the inevitable: Let's move x card on the banlist, it means the OP actually has to show they have some idea what they are talking about.

I mean, if people can't find even a minute to briefly put points about a card, then they obviously don't particularly care about discussing it.

Why do you have to keep saying that "this topic isn't against the rules because I say so" when clearly when we comment about it you're just going to warn us anyway?

Doesn't really affect me in the slightest, since I always have some [url='http://forum.yugiohcardmaker.net/topic/303219-secret-agent-venus-the-agent-of-creation-venus6000-posts/#entry6223052']crazy wacko thing I do to fish reps[/url]that makes the topic seem more interesting.

Well it's essentially another post within the first post, since people usually say one or two words about it and then people either pick what that person said and elaborate it, or say their own two words regarding a different aspect of it.

Adding the first two words to the first post will not change that scenario, it'll simply begin one post earlier.

I mean do it I guess, I don't particularly care.

Tbh i don't really care, because no matter the topic, we always seem to have a decent discussion on a card, even if the first post is just "discuss".

With all the new cards coming out, its first in first serve. I find it interesting that we can post the card, no matter how bad it is, and basically have a discussion on it.

I mean, it's not a bad idea, but what does this even change? Players aren't going to improve just by having to tell you their opinion on the card, and posting standards won't go up because it won't change anything.

Not saying don't do it, cause it's a fine thing to do, just saying that if you want to improve TCG, a petty rule like this isn't the way, whereas actually trying to involve your memberbase in a way like, lets say, teams and wars to help them improve at the game is a decent idea.

Everything was quote pyramids of "Terrible. Next"

So much irony.

The only time even the "Name. Pic. Discuss" posts end up doing nothing is if the OP decided to deliberately make a topic about a bad or absurdly obsolete card that cannot possibly generate discussion on its own. In which case, yes, even the bare bones opinion might be an improvement, because they can struggle for a few seconds before finally saying something like "Card sucks". Then people will either identify the topic as a waste of time, or will assault the flaws (if applicable) in this opinion.

The rule looks good on paper. I've never fully understood why it already wasn't part of the rule.

I'll admit I've done this a few times, largely because I'd rather see that everybody else thinks before commenting. That said, I do think discussion generation is a good thing to get going right away, so actually having the OP say something beyond "new card in x" would be good.

And Azuh, I remember those...

I don't know. I'm going to have to agree with Azuh on this. Usually we can through a decent topic with good discussion together.

That might be true, but most of the time, the guy who made it doesn't even comment at all, or at least, not as much as they probably should, considering that they made the topic after all.

 "Terrible. Next"

I remember back in 09-ish Pika used to post just that and only that all the time.

Anyways, I don't think the rule is necessary. Plenty of topics people just post the effect/pic/discuss and they get plenty of discussion. But meh. Won't matter to me.

____

Quality over quantity.

The only time we ever get a surge of new topics in the TCG is when new cards are announced. Other than that we rarely get around 2 new topics a day. We don't need a rule to enforce this, it should be just common sense.

Also it'll become like how created cards has become, no one posts review on cards anymore due to those lengthy rules. Yes, its good for detail, but you do need to balance quality and quantity.

Btw, I hate the new Written Cards sections, why split something into two when we had trouble of people going there in the first place. End rant

This gets rid of the few topics that feature cards that can't actually generate discussion. Those topics are rather few, so this rule may not necessarily be necessary.

But then, it's not hard to say a word or two about it.

Never fear citizens! I'm here to answer all of your burning questions!

Re: "Why? It barely makes this section that much better anyway!"

But you acknowledge it would make the section better, so why not do it? Not everything I suggest has to bring about the Second Golden Age of YCM.

Re: "What about new sets!?"

They wouldn't be immune to the rule, and in fact may be the primary motivation behind this topic. Topic creator still has to show some basic thought on the card, other then copying and pasting from shriek.ocg or duelistgroundz or pojo or the wiki.

Heaven forbid the TCG section has to show some actual thought.

Re: "What are punishments gonna be?"

Most likely just a warn increase for the topic poster. Topic won't be locked or anything dumb like that.

Re: "Why do you have to keep saying that 'this topic isn't against the rules because I say so'?"

Because of the way the TCG section rules are written, this topic is technically against TCG-section rules, since it doesn't discuss a card, a combo, an archetype, or whatever. It's mostly a funny poke or a jab at tyrannical rules. Also, I do recall a time way way long ago I did get reports for posting TCG-section based topics, mostly from people trying to be funny about the topic being against the rules. So I end all my "official" mod posts that way.

Re: "I don't care."

Oh okay. Thanks for stopping by.

Re: "Involve your playerbase with teams and wars!"

I'm a pretty anti-social person, so I don't particularly care for the social aspect of the TCG. Furthermore I think some kind of war/team thing would just turn this section into a kind of hangout or something, which would actually make posting standards worse. And though I have nothing to back this up, I feel it would make the section a bit too dominated by "elitest" people. All opinions matter on TCG, not just the ones of the top duelist, or top team of duelists.

On DGz, people get negged to heck for not showing any semblance of thought in the OP beyond "card pic, card link, discuss," and have gotten a ton of reps for going out their way to post a lot of their thoughts and ideas, and guiding the discussion. A philosophy I noticed in that forum's TCG is that the OP actually has to contribute something relevant and create a start for discussion.

And that's the thing. If you want to make a topic on a card, you should at least have something legitimate to say about it in the opening post. There's not a lot of purpose in a thread where the OP just posts and says "discuss." What are we discussing? The card? It's okay, I guess. Nothing spectacular. Anyway, here's a meme pic for lulz. Give me massive reps, peeps!

I'm not saying to go Advanced Clause on this section with 45 word OPs or something, but the open poster should create a starting point for discussion, not the people who reply to the thread. If you can't find anything to say about [bad card x that everybody knows is bad] except that it's bad, you probably shouldn't make the topic, Mr. +1 Post Count Guy.
