[TCG] January Banlist

Recommended Posts

Most people thought it was good, bar Dragons who had judgment withdrawn on them. At least that I saw.

I just looked at page 1-2 of the comments on the thread for it.  Most people either werent sure, or said they didn't hate it.  This is a hugely difference reaction.

FORBIDDEN:

Dragon Ravine - Ouch, probably not needed.

Return from the Different Dimension - This one isn't a surprise...

Self-Destruct Button - SDB is a troll card that's better off banned.

Sixth Sense - No surprise here then.

LIMITED:

Dragon Rulers - I still think that going 1 Baster / 1 Tempest / 2 Tidal / 2 Redox would've been better, or just semi-limit them all with the hits they took, but I guess Konami really doesn't want them back.

Debris Dragon - Plant Synchros lose this guy but get Lonefire, whilst DRulers get another punch to the stomach.

Magician of Faith - Nice to see her back, especially with no Reborn or Heavy. Still, I expect she'll be a staple in a fair number of decks.

Divine Wind of Mist Valley - Did harpies offend anyone? Or is there something I'm missing here...

Final Countdown - Konami evidently dislikes alternate win conditions. This card is almost as trollish as SDB.

Sacred Sword of Seven Stars - Rulers no Ruling. Rulers no Ruling.

Spellbook of Fate - Faith means that the recycling will be slightly slower. Not a huge hit, but it's there.

SEMI-LIMITED:

Chaos Sorcerer - True fact, Chaos Sorcerer's banlist position is determined by a game of blindfolded darts.

Lonefire Blossom - See above comment on Debris

UNLIMITED:

Archlord Kristya - Never saw it at 2, doubt it'll do anything.

Mezuki - Ah, Zombies are the focus of the week then.

Plaguespreader Zombie - Zombies will appreciate Plague back, and Sylvan cards might have a use for his inbuilt topdeck control.

T.G. Striker - Well this could be interesting.

Tour Guide From The Underworld - No Sangan means that there aren't many good targets for her. Perhaps a good target will emerge over time...

Constellar Ptolemy M7 - 3 to 1 to 3, could make Constellars Tier 1?

Fire Formation - Tenki - Great for Bujins and FF.

Well it'll be interesting. Prophecy/Bujin/FF/Constellar/Zombies all seem to come strong out of the banlist.

So....
TG Agents and/or Zombies take over the metagame?

I don't think they will take it over entirely, but rather join the top tiers along... Bujins, Fire Fists and possibly Mermails?

I like the list: Rulers were murdered, T.G. Agents and Zombies got a boost, and now Sacreds can Chaos-Xyz Ptolemys without worrying of having only a single copy.  I was not expecting Tenki back to 3, but I'm not complaining. On the other hand, I was expecting ROTA to be semi-Limited for pushing Noble Knights.

Bujin, Mermail, and Fire Fist seem strong, and Vampires seem like they have potential to do something with 3 Mezuki.

Constellar don't seem any better really, as ptolemy at 3 doesn't matter as they only ever played 1.

Like holy fuck, stop commenting on Ptolemy at 3 as a Constellar thing. It was not a hit to Constellar and this is not a boost to them. It's more relevant to Hieratics, Archfiends, and fucking Hazy Flames than Constellar.

Prophecy don't seem dead, but they certainly don't seem too strong.

I know, and I never said Sacreds got any better because of this. Just saying that is nice to be able to turn more than 1 Sacred Xyz into Ptolemys. For instance, silly, low tier, experimental, for-fun, etc. etc. Sacred Decks that run Sheratan + Leonis can now go Hyades-->Ptolemys without worrying of using the single Ptolemys they previously had.

But you won't run more than 1 Ptolemy. Not in "lower tier" Constellar, either.

Hell, no intelligent Constellar deck runs Leonis, much less Hyades. No one gives a damn about "lower tier" Constellar because it's just plain shit.

And I made the post before you ninja'd me. The guy above you acted like it was a buff to Constellar, too.

Dragons are totally dead, they have no way of getting any advantage like they used to. By banishing a Dragon you virtually cut yourself off from it for the rest of the game. Prophecy don't seem good at all to me, they needed their Fate as a searchable backrow out to a lot of things and also to banish for eternity. T.G. Agents probably still won't be anywhere near as good as they were when they had Trish, I feel Chaos Agents are a better bet. T.G. stun on the other hand seems solid, although again it won't be anywhere near as good as it was with 3 Tengu. Mermails, Constellars, Fire Fists, Geargia possibly Blackwings and arguably Bujins look like they're going to dominate the meta, as well as possibly Zombies, although it kinda sucks that they have no really good level 6 synchros anymore. I'm reserving judgment on Evilswarm at the minute, they look like they have a bad matchup against a lot of key decks so I don't think they'll be too good, which could also lead to decks like Heiratics (who benefit a little from 3 M7) being good.

Im exited! 2 of my cards got cut, though luckily I knew they would be and preparations have been made. :) (To those curious It was Return and 6th Sense, and TBH I knew they were broken and agree they should be gone)

Magician of Faith is a happy surprise,

Swords doesnt really need limiting with dragons at 1 and Return gone,

Scary suprise to see the newly unlimited list. Triple Mezuki, M7, Kristya, and Tour Guide I am interested to see how they evolve, and if it was be worth my fear. :/

Explanation please.

TGU's main problem @3 was TGU, not Sangan.

Kristya shouldn't even be a card, whether or not Agents are a thing.

Plague is fine, but not @3, especially not with 3 Mezuki. Zombies REALLY don't need more revival.

I'm unsure about M7.

Striker is the best move in that section.

Rest of the list is great, sans maybe Lonefire.

We'll see what this series of bumps end up doing for the next few months.  At the very least, I'd be interested to see what Zombies do with triple Mezuki and Plaguespreader.

Also Lonefire was moved up to promote Sylvans/Shinra.

I see. I thought you were also referring to my post, and I just wanted to point out that I do not think Sacreds were buffed by the change on Ptolemys.

I suspect Zombies will start laughing insanely when No.101 comes out in TCG.

I know I have a very blatant love of Ark Knight that might cloud my judgment, but seriously, Mezuki at 3, plus Z-Master and their plethora of other revival cards? They can drop Rank 4s easily. Only Heraldics have it better by outright gaining card advantage by Xyz Summoning with Leo and stuff.

And Dragon Rulers deserved to be killed that badly. Not only did LTGY release those horribly designed creatures, but it also released Draco-SAC, the next best Rank 7. Then Konami looked upon the meta in the wake and went "...Oh shi-!"

The fact they didn't get hit hard enough last list, despite both the OCG and TCG taking a knife to the Decklists went to show that they were way more OP than anticipated. I remember we all mentioned how the babies were making Rulers truly degenerate and they needed to die bad. So they did. And TCG hit more of the support cards like Rejuvenation. And still they survived.

So yeah, the fact the list pretty much holds nothing back on Rulers again makes me happy.

The joke's that it buffs Fire Fist Plants more than Sylvan and won't make sylvan sell better to any remotely competitive player beyond as a really, really pet deck.
