Raigeki will be used in every Deck that attacks to win, that's for sure.  Even against something like Shaddolls, a one time nuke for free, clear the board for some attacks?  Hey for just 1 card invested in doing that it's all so worth it.

I mean no one thinks about what Raigeki does in the long run, since it's been banned for so long.  But Raigeki, I genuinely believe will be healthy in the long run.  It will have the same role Heavy Storm did for Mass Setting, and that's to keep Mass Setting in check.  Raigeki will keep Mass spamming in Check.  It will also severely punish OTK decks that have the (screw the traps, I have monsters mentality).  This includes stuff like Lightsworns and Hieratics.  When was the last time any one of you players Summoned your hand to the board and feared a Dark Hole?  Quite a while ago.  Dark Hole has been power creep'd to death and only Decks like Fire Kings and Yang Zings still use them.

Bringing Raigeki back is perfect since ALL players will use it, players will not just spam into the board in without fear of Raigeki, which is how the game should be.  YOU SHOULD BE SCARED of Dark Hole.  But we no longer are, and as a result Konami took the experimental move of bringing back Raigeki.  It just might force Hieratic Decks and Lightsowrn Decks to not be Gimmicky with just monsters and monsters, maybe a Royal Decree, and OTK based.  It might turn them into a Normal Deck that runs it's fair share of traps.

If you're seeing Hieratics or non-splashed LS played competitively, your locals might be garbage.

No good player spams the field when Exciton, Black Rose and blow-out plays from strong backrow exist. The only decks in recent competitive play that actually overextended or spammed summons only did so when it resulted in an auto-win or a near unbreakable field. Sylvans, HAT, Geargia, BA and soon to be NKs post-Merlin are examples of this.

Raigeki might see play in Qliphort or sided as an out to rogues, but that's about it.

You SHOULD be.
The fact that all your monsters continue to give you advantage when they are gotten rid of is not something that should be happening.

Except... Given the sort of scenario you described, you would be "rewarded" for topdecking if you spontaneously draw Dark Hole against the Opponent's winning field, and proceed to win on that very turn.
To which, is typically frowned upon.

The fact that it's taken this long for some people to realize is actually quite sad tbh.

Has it taken that long? I recall people saying en masse that this game is bad ever since DSF format.

I don't get why a floater format is bad tbh.

This card on its own being able to be unbanned is in no way an indicator of the quality of a format, aside from it just being bad on principle.

Maybe it's just my propensity for unironically enjoying bad things, but to me, Yu-Gi-Oh is not nearly as bad as it was 2-3 years ago.

So I don't Yu-Gi-Oh like, at all, anymore. But looking at these, after seeing all the fuss. I wanted to say something. (Disclaimer, overtired and not claiming to know what I'm talking about.)

It looks like the sides here are.

1.) The card won't do much against the current meta.

And.

2.) The meta is broken because this card won't do much.

That's...basically it. And it's all anyone has said for a while now. Konami screwed up. They kept adding things and adding things and made some terrible design choices.

So, if bringing this back doesn't do much to the meta decks it should be fine being brought back right?

No. Not really. It just means that they are fixing the wrong things. They aren't making the game better by bringing this back right? They're in fact rewarding the broken way the game is run now by promoting them. This being a thing now only makes those decks even more viable.

Balance isn't making the strong decks stronger, it's making decks that weren't/can't be used more viable, right?

Am I just talking out of my ass? Yes. Should you take me seriously? Your choice. Is this a bad post? I'm sure. Am I posting it? Well...obviously.

Since no one else is acknowledging the Elephant in the Room, I may as well do that:

Honestly, I was quite surprised when I saw that Raigeki was limited now like each and every one of you.  I'm not going to say that it is not a good decision because of what potential effect it would have on the meta.  But rather, I'm going to say that moving Raigeki up from the banlist is not a good idea because it has virtually nothing to offer to the game at this point.

Normally, when a card is moved up from the banlist, it's because the people behind the banlist believe that it would contribute to the current game, not because it stopped being broken due to the state of the metagame.  If you still have that ideology in you, gtfo and never play a competitive game until you understand the idealogy behind moving cards up the list.  In a floater format, however, Raigeki is practically useless because it cannot do its job of one-sided mass monster removal.

Cards like Magician of Faith and Reinforcement of the Army didn't go from Forbidden and Limited respectively to Unlimited because they stopped being broken, but it's because where was a need for those cards in the game.  Yes, Magician of Faith has power creep, but its effect is still quite useful for the Decks that want Magician of Faith.  Reinforcement of the Army is still too good, but there was an obvious need for it to come back to 3 due to the prevalence of Warrior-based Decks coming out.

Raigeki has... what does Raigeki have again that would contribute to the format?

And this is why Raigeki should not have left the list, and this is the logic that the list runs on.

I haven't played in a while but, do that many cards dodge it now?

alot of meta right now does, I.e, BA, shaddolls and yang zing.

But it is still pretty broken, however when it is at 1 it doesnt appear in games very often.

But yeah alot of non-meta can find it pretty devastating...

And that a lightning storm is infinitely cooler than a black hole, this coming from someone who likes Satellars just because they're named after stars.

Dark Hole being a black hole means it sucks in everything within reach, meaning all monsters on the field.  Raigeki is a lightning bolt, making it more precise in what it blasts away.

Flavour-gameplay segregation.

Raigeki being thought over instead of being an instant include is very telling of how much the game has power-creeped since it was banned.

Well, since this slippery slope has happened...

Dear Konami,

Can you release new archetypes that maintain hand advantage no matter what, then put Delinquent Duo and The Forceful Sentry to 1?

They won't be good in such a format.

Thanks.

Your manly pal,

REAL AMERICAN SUPERSONIC NINJA GOD KING MACHISMO H. CROUTON MAXIMUS

P.S.: Put Sinister Serpent and Temple of the Kings to 1, please ;)
