What the hell?!

You mean one of the 3 cards that essentially created the banlist is coming back to 1?

I know Dark Hole proved to be less explosive than expected, due to the meta being able to recover a field of monsters faster than S/Ts, but Raigeki is so blatantly one-sided in its effect, I just don't think it should be brought back. It's the principle of thing more than the impact.

it's not even that bad, tbh

It's not a fair card, but the game has shifted to where blind destruction is punished, and using this to remove 1 threat is often wasteful and encourages them to explode after.

I agree it might not have incredible impact. For me, the principle of unbanning a card like Raigeki is just stupid.

I wonder how far will the game evolve until we hit that point where unbanning Yata Garasu and/or Chaos Emperor Dragon is a possible, sane enough move.

I don't ever want to see that day.

BLS got unbanned. D-Hole was freed. Now Raigeki is out and about.

All 3 of them are still unbanned, despite their lucksacky capability of ending the Duel in an instant.

Probably when we get an archetype like Qliphorts but without the "You cannot SS non-Qliphorts monsters" clause. Think about it: swarm the field with Pendulums every turn, go Synchro/Fusion/Xyz with them; swarm the next turn again. At that point locking the Draw Phase with Yata would barely affect players; Chaos Emperor Dragon would still be busted, though.

Come to think of it, Pendulums might be why they're doing this. Since Pendulums go to the Extra Deck and can be re-Summoned with ease, using Raigeki against Pendulums is a temporary kill card, so it's encouraging Pendulum use.

Which is stupid. Let the cards' own merits encourage their use, don't make weird banlist choices to do so.

i'll need to see some decks this is really good against before i consider playing this. dark hole is basically inexistent atm and i don't see anything wrong with giving it a test to see how it goes.

The thing with Dark Hole is that most players will only use it if they've got an empty Field or monsters they can afford to try to nuke.

Because Raigeki is one-sided, you can use it regardless of how many monsters you control, with no consequences. This card promotes an abrupt kill-shot. At least with Dark Hole, you had to have the resources still available after the nuke to perform the killing blow.

It just feels like a skill-less card. Its impact might be lessened due to how Yang Zing and Pendulums don't lose much advantage (or any) when destroyed by card effects, and some cards have anti-destruction effects, like 101.

even when your field is empty and you have the resources to back up a dark hole more often than not any established field these days will have an answer to dark hole and not be affected too much. the issue with dark hole nowadays is not that you don't want to lose your field but that monster field nukes are simply nowhere near as good as they used to be.

e: the above post ninja'd me but it is correct except that tellars hardly care at all.
