Mutant Monster RAEG-HAPYP
Basically, I want to know what you guys think of disorders such as ADHD, OCD, Aspergers, etc. And let me say this; I have ADHD(among other things like Aspergers and OCD). It's pretty severe. So, discuss disorders in general. Share your thoughts and stuff.
Flash Flyer - Sakura
I have ADD (yeah, the mild version without the "H"), but not too bothered about it right now. Unlike some kids I knew who also had it, I came out okay [yeah, I had my episodes of not paying attention, but it's pretty much gone at this point]. I didn't take drugs, however, so didn't end up being spaced out. As for other disorders, they're serious in their own right; some more so than others. PTSD is especially harsh for those who lived through combat days (or a dramatic event); takes a while for them to really get over the images stuck in their minds. (GigaDrillBreaker)
I have ADHD. My medication helps a ton, but when I don't get it I can hardly think straight.
Premier Alexander Romanov
I have high-functioning autism. This probably explains a lot.
LordCowCowCowCowCowCowCowCow
I have something that sounds kinda...not so bad. GAD Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Basically means I'm anxious and paranoid about things way too often. Anything really. Not so bad, most of the time. But sometimes it gets really bad. Had panic attacks when I was in High School and got sent to the hospital a couple times. There are so many kinds of disorders people don't think about. Kinda leads me to feel uncomfortable about talking about it. Like I expect someone to go "Oh so what that's no big deal everyone gets anxiety". Which is probably part of the disorder itself...hmm. I don't have medication for it or anything, no point unless it gets really bad.
Andx
Both of my older brothers are on the autism spectrum with one being your sort of "typical" Aspergers case and the other being fairly low functioning autism. Then there's me and my little sister, the "normal" ones whatever that means. While my autistic brother was clearly always quite different, growing up I never bothered classifying my other brother as aspergers or whatever. Life's tough in general but it seems unfairly so for him. And while we're generally good to the people with these conditions as a society I just wish there was something more going to help them feel a little bit more at peace with life and their place in it. My brother at least struggles very much with the ideas that are sort of programmed into our minds concerning what your life is supposed to be like and how it's supposed to go and his perceived inability to ever truly live up to them. JessicaMuddy
I have OCD (Which sucks), and two good friends of mine both have aspergers. One of the friends still has his moments of craziness but the other one is always active and always has something to say. I swear he NEVER sits still. Azure Wolf
I've got Aspergers and occasional anxiety. I'm usually fine but have to take medication. My family is raising money to get a support dog for me, though at £5000 per dog it does take awhile to get the money for one.
Forest Fire
i've got mild paranoia, not like that counts for anything.. my sister has ocd and is on the autism spectrum. as in she has the brain of a two year old most of the time. to put it bluntly. I sometimes wish my sister didn't have to suffer through life. She has so much shit. OCD, Autism, Rheumatoid Arthritis ... you know... i've actually forgot the full list... I thought I never would... Anyway. Back to this. If there is one thing you could do, it would be to be there for them. That's it for now. But if there was some way to find out while the baby was still a fetus what disorders it would have, if any, the parents could decide if they even want the baby to come into the world or they could then be like "There's no way we could support the kind of help our baby would need" and go from there. Something like that, you know.
Shradow
My older brother has a mild case of autism and aspergers. But he went through a lot of helpful classes and programs when he was younger, so thankfully he only has occasional behavioral issues, as far as him being really cringeworthy to be around in public sometimes (almost like an embarrassing parent). He's an aerospace mechanic, now. In elementary through high school, I knew several people who were, let's say, very mentally impaired. I don't know exactly what disorders they had, but I knew them for many years as we went up the school years, and they were all good people, and everyone at school treated them nicely. Though I'll be honest, and I hope this doesn't make me a bad person in saying this, while I have no problems with those kind of people on a personal level, they do just sort of make me uncomfortable if I were to say, see someone like that on the street or something. I hope that's not, like, some form of discrimination or anything.
Madsen
The worst part about these disorders is how many people claim they have them without any diagnosis. Cough cough.
LordCowCowCowCowCowCowCowCow
The worst part about these disorders is how many people claim they have them without any diagnosis. Cough cough. Just gonna point out that this vague statement makes it sound like you're implying everyone here haven't been diagnosed, which you can't possibly know. Though you might just mean in general, just sounds that way.
Madsen
In general but I'd guess it also applies to some people on YCM. Going around yelling shit like I'm so ocd I cleaned my room or I have aspergers I can't talk to girls as an excuse without diagnosis or any of the mindwrecking shit that these disorders bring to you is complete bullshit and entirely devalues how serious they can be. Not a specific jab at anyone, just how shit like this is treated.
LordCowCowCowCowCowCowCowCow
In general but I'd guess it also applies to some people on YCM. Going around yelling s*** like I'm so ocd I cleaned my room or I have aspergers I can't talk to girls as an excuse without diagnosis or any of the mindwrecking s*** that these disorders bring to you is complete bullshit and entirely devalues how serious they can be. Not a specific jab at anyone, just how s*** like this is treated. Okay, in that case. I totally agree. I have heard that way too often. Especially OCD. People tend to self-diagnose based on the stereotypical idea of what the disorder is. Like, you can be picky without being OCD, you can have a hard time paying attention without ADD, you can be nervous without an anxiety disorder. But people don't see that, and no one really corrects them. Not only does it devalue, it also makes the person who claims it actually feel worse, because by saying you have one of those issues your brain tends to focus on that stuff and you notice it more, even if it's not really a problem.
