A Wild Monster Appears!

Recommended Posts

Actually, no.

It's ''A(n) X appears!'' or a variations of it. Most RPGs has many enemies that does not really fit as ''wild''.

''A wild Black Knight appears!'' doesn't really makes sense, right?

A long time ago, I played a game called Dragon Warrior Monsters, which had a recruit system for wild monsters. That was what first came to mind when I saw the name of the card.

Pokemon is just the RPG series that is more widespread and popular than others and has the same "recruit/capture" wild monsters theme going. But because there are other examples of games that do this other than Pokemon, I do not consider it to specifically be a Pokemon reference.

Do a Barrel Roll, however, is undeniably a Star Fox reference.

But it's far more likely that this is an intentional reference to Pokemon, since the phrase become memetic because of it.

(also Dragon Warrior Monsters is released after Pokemon anyway)

So much so that you had to say it not once, twice, no, thrice!

Its more likely that the barrel roll references the famous barrel roll that was done in... 1956?
