Car Accidents

So, I'm sure we have a lot of people here who drive cars, you guys ever been in any car accidents? My worst one was one time I was driving home on the highway at night, and an animal got in the road so I swerved to avoid it on reflex, ended up overcorrecting and slamming into a guard rail. I was going quite fast cuz highway speeds, so I ended up bouncing between the guard rails on either side, like, 3 or 4 times while spinning uncontrollably. Car was absolutely totaled, debris strewn across a really long stretch of highway, I had to call my dad to come get me, I was about 2 hours away at the time. >.>

Never did quite get into car accidents, but I have had close calls. My car accelerates fairly easilyeasily, but at least it brakes fairly easily, too. However, I tried applying that when the roads were coated with snow; bad idea. Though, what'd I say was my closest call was when I was leaving a parking space and I proceeded to to press down on the pedal, not realizing it was still in reverse.

I would never hear the end of it if my father found out I did that.

I think my parents were just happy I didn't have a scratch on me, considering I bumper cars'd my way down the highway at ~70-80 mph iirc. The front and back of the car were super crushed in. I did manage to pull the car over to the side of the road out of the way, at least, but that was about all it could manage.

4 (give or take) in my life.

First was trying to change lanes as a light came up, turned red, guy in front of me stopped, brother said something and I broke without finishing the lane change. I had been driving around 3 months at the time.

Second was coming home from school, the entrance got clogged as I reached it and it was raining at the time. Didn't stop in time.

Third was a weird one where a guy bumped me into the car in front of me, but there really weren't any damages to speak of (my front bumper cover cracked a little but the car was a shitty one anyway and it was still in place otherwise)

Fourth because the woman stopped in a right lane on a freeway with no shoulder to change her tire, right after the apex of a hill. I saw the car in time to go left in time, but I ended up swerving a bit into a 180 and hitting the side, skewing both right wheels.

Had a close one a few weeks ago when I was driving home after running errands in West O'ahu. Trying to enter the freeway and merge into the traffic; truck blindsides me on the left (after I checked my mirror twice to see if no cars). Guy's behind me coming out of the exit, but apparently cut on the left because I'm not driving fast enough*. To be honest, he was tailgating me and other vehicles on the freeway, so...

Didn't get hurt and car didn't hit truck, but had to suddenly brake and the guy tooted me, even though he cut out of nowhere and I didn't see him.

* Speed limit for that stretch of freeway is 55 - 60 mph (88.50 - 96.54 km/h for metric users), but generally go slightly slower when coming out (checking on merging traffic and making sure you can do so safely, because some guys intentionally drive over the limit and/or will not stop to let you.)

Just the one. My girlfriend and I were getting a lift with her grandpa to go back to her's, but when we were pulling out onto the main road, the funking pleb didn't bother looking to see if anything was coming and a car hit us. We were all fine, but the car that hit us ended up on its side in a ditch on the side of the road. Worst thing was I had to go to a court hearing about it where this dickhead grandpa was making the shittiest excuses ever and I was telling them it was all bullshit basically. He was saying it was the sun's fault (we were in Scotland, there was no sun) and everything. Despite all the bullshit, he got off without any punishment because he was friends with the right people... Later it turns out he was driving illegally because he'd had his license revoked years ago, but still got away with it.

Was about 9:30 at night and coming back from a community college class.

I was making a left turn onto an interstate ramp and some guy comes flying over the hill just as I'm pulling into the road.  He smacks into my passenger side (which was thankfully empty) and sends me spinning a few times and I wind up in the ditch. Both cars are completely totaled. Luckily, just superficial injuries like glass cuts and bruises.

Still, scariest moment of my life without question.  Parents were just thankful I was alive.
