Begin rant: seriously people, if you cast hate on people with disabilities, YOU ARE A JERK! Most people with disabilities tend to not help themselves because it is not their fault. People with disabilities often had been in accidents such as a car wreck. I hate how they are rejected in so called "society" ! People say they deserve to be institutionalized or put down but they deserve a (or another) shot at life. Hateful words such as "retarded" shouldn't be said!!!!!! It should be illegal in all countries!!!!!

Retarded and disabled carry like the same denotations. I'm sure mental retardation was a formal diagnosis at some point because it's the most literal description. I honestly am not sure why there's such a strong negative connotation associated with the words. It's similar (though not the same) to using "gay" and the N word. Perhaps it's just people carelessly throwing the words around that got us in this situation in the first place, but if they're not used with derogatory intent, I honestly don't see much of an issue

And Inquisitor.  I understand you're passionate about standing up for the way persons with disabilities may feel about being called "retarded" or the like, and that's fine.  But the way you're communicating your message is sloppy.  Clean it up a bit and make a better case for yourself.

I don't do it... but I get it. Universal empathy was never on the "Being Human" test. They're the weak link, socially, economically, and culturally. They're easy to disrespect too because they normally can't defend themselves as much. As a society, it's nice to have the thought that we should treat everyone well. But, I see the counterpoint. They're disadvantaged so they lose. Social Darwinism is a winning strategy not a nice one.
