Guest BGMCANN0N
Fishing the Depths[Normal Spell] Excavate the top 5 cards of your Deck, Special Summon 1 excavated Fish-Type monster, also place the other cards on the bottom of your Deck in any order. You can only activate 1 "Fishing the Depths" per turn.
ÆƵ–
This would actually be pretty good if we had some decent fish monsters. Too bad the only one that comes to mind the that 1 lvl 9 that summons really itty bitty fish that is basically useless without my bae fishborg blaster. Flash Flyer - Sakura
You mean Big Whale? Yeah, this card would help out Shark.dek and a few other things I probably missed here. It certainly has potential to be good, if we actually had viable Fish decks to work with. By now, we all know that Konami doesn't want to support them in favor of pushing broken ARC-V and DM legacy decks. You do have that 2800 ATK monster as a viable target though (Superancient Deepsea King Coecalanth, or however you spell it; that one is level 8) ===Card is fine, but just that there aren't a lot of good Decks that can feasibly use this. Shark would probably like this though.
Darj
Card looks alright. At best, you can Summon a big fish like the Coelacanth without spending your Normal Summon nor Tributes on it; at worst, if you don't excavate any Fish, you get to rearrange the next 5 cards in the top of your deck, so that's something. It's worth taking the risk in any Fish-dominant deck IMO.
The Nyx Avatar
So essentially, you're getting a Fish-Type monster at little to no cost. Granted, Superancient Deepsea King Coecalanth seems to be the most value you'll be getting from this card, but if you made a a Deck with a heavy number of Fish-Type monsters, you could potentially bring out Bahamut Shark or Treatoad (depending on their Level). I like how it is to Fish as Reinforcement of the Army is to Warrior or Salvage is to WATER (being a generic support card for the Type). While I'm still iffy about it not really having a cost, it does have a strict "once per turn" clause, so it might be fine.
Sleepy
Initially I thought of that one excavating Gishki monster but iirc that one's a Sea Serpent. It's cool that it doesn't care about Levels and can give you a +0 play if it finds something, but what got my attention the most is that it returns to the top OR bottom. I don't think Yugioh makes excavation like this very often if at all. They usually pretty much tells you to choose the order and put them all on top again. This is huge because of how much more control you get even if you don't get your desired Fish. Coelacanth can still be a decent Xyz play though that is not as effective as Fishborg for obvious reasons. I'm sensing a theme here, and I can say this still lacks enough of a push due to fishies not being super supported at the moment, but it is a great little toy that can easily become good with a little more of a card pool to grab from. Some effects do let you return to top or bottom, but most of them only deal with 1 card so they don't have an outstanding topdecking power. Also.. I re-read the card and, I don't know if it was edited, but it actually places the other excavated cards on the bottom, not either top or bottom, so it doesn't have that topdeck rearranging bonus. Huh.... I might have read it wrong.... Wouldn't be the first time that happens to me.I think it should be able to choose either top and/or bottom in any way, personally. And I first read it as placing the cards on the top deck, unless it was edited, but I don't remember anymore. Still, I think it would be a nice boon, and flavorful too as a a reference to digging from the depths, to excavate the bottom 5 cards and then placing the rest on the top of the Deck. But it would miss on topdecking support.
