Life Moves On

So I've been visiting this place less and less lately and I feel I may leave for good soon.  Remembering this forum brings nostalgic thoughts to my head.  YCM will always be a fond childhood memory.  I'm in high school now and I'm seeing so many changes, some for good, others for worse, rarely ones I am ready for.  Anyways discuss things that have changed radically in the past couple years or things that have changed a little.  Changes that bring back memories or bring a sour taste to your mouth.  Discuss changes in general.

Well...I mean, two years ago, I wasn't even here, if I remember right, so quite a lot has changed, in that regard.

This. (Edited because original statement would've been false, since I was here at this time last year).

As a lot of you probably know by now, I was gone from December 14-15, 2011 until September 28 of last year, due to a culmination of things: lack of interest in YCM, lack of respect from certain members towards others (think one of them is obvious) and life (especially with senior year + college prep); plus I had more fun on a Pokemon game that one of my friends here recommended. (So that's where I was during that 21.5 month period...)

When I came back, a lot of things had changed: a lot of the older staff members I remember were gone; newer ones got promoted (like Zex, Night, evilfusion) + forum more or less was radically reorganized.

This past week, we lost some prominent YCMers: Aix (the current RP mod) is going on hiatus for a few months to handle personal things (but he will be back), Koko/Black (the ex-CC mods) left for an indefinite period of time; perhaps forever or maybe for a few months [if I remember, Koko did say she MIGHT return someday]. At this point, a lot of members are dealing with their departure, and heralding this as the start of a new era.

Whether or not it'll be a good one, we'll just have to see.

My hours at work have increased (Although I'm still trying to get my contract upto 12 hours) so that's a big recent change given I've been working 6 days out of 7 the last 3 weeks. Would like to be able to render more, but I don't have time which is a shame.

(It's also part of the reason I asked for demotion had little time)

I've seen a ton of members coming and going throughout these years. There are some people who've stuck around, but the community's drastically different from 3 years ago. Hell, even 1 year ago.

The overall feel of YCM's been relatively intact, though. Even with different members or changed members, it has that same sense of atmosphere (read: lunacy) that it's always had. And best of all, people that do care about the site, despite their numerous (read: craploads) of problems with it.

In that sense, it's greatly changed for me, while also having not changed at all.

I joined here in 2007 because I had no friends and I loved making cards.

I left in 2009 because I was busy with irl friends.

Then I came back in 2012 because I lost them all.

So here I am, still active little before 2015.

I was here a lot a few years ago and this place really helped me through a lot. I loved making cards and I loved this section of the forums the most. I only come here rarely and it makes me sorta sad. But I feel as I grow up there are more things on my mind that I have to attend to. It's very natural.

I joined YCM right before 7th grade and was extremely active for about a year (bulk of my post count from that period). Visits became more on and off, most likely due to other close members leaving, and me just spending less time on the computer during high school in general. I lurked often and became somewhat interested again once 1v1's were introduced; also had a lot more free time (summer, graduated hs, had a breakup). Then college started and my priorities shifted again. I'm a 2nd year now and I occasionally update myself on YCM when I've got nothing else to do, which rarely happens. it's 5am right now and I have class in 3 hours (college redefines your sleep schedule).

I don't think age really decides if you stay or become inactive, but rather the priorities irl that you set for yourself (ie. school, relationships, organizations, etc). Also the community's drastically different from 7 years ago.
