The Actual Train Thread

Alright, let's go talk about trains here. Any kind is fine. You can talk about your experience while boarding one, or talk about the trains themselves.

personally, commuter train is one of my favorite mode of transport here. It's probably one of the better-managed public transportation in my country.

So yeah, discuss?

Trains in Canada are terrible because of speed restrictions.  Same speed as driving to go long distances.

If we're talking about subways though Vancouver is pretty nice on those.  Our Canada Line can get you from the airport to downtown in under 20 minutes which is sweet.

I love London's and Japan's rail systems in general. Gets you from A to B pretty dang sharpish, and there's like a train every 50 seconds. Singapore's is probably a cut above the rest though, since it's easily the most comfortable, cheapest and also connects you to literally anywhere on Singapore. As for long train journeys, as long as you go through beautiful scenery like in Europe and not just drill through every hill ever like in Japan, I love them~

Just experiences. People on them can be horrible to just be near and have you seen what happens in the New York subway? Yeah, not kidding, it is like that. Just going from the suburbs to there, you can your head smashed into a pole by a rainbow dressed roller skater because they actually don't know how to roller skate.

You know, the one in Japan that travels at up to 300 mph? One reason why I wanna visit there.

As far as trains in general: I've only been on monorails either in, going around, or leading to amusement parks (ex. Disney World.) Personally, I kinda like them. They're pretty relaxing.

I've never been on a train but I really really want to.

One day I want to be one like, a luxury train or something, that would be so cool....Alas, probably won't be able to.

Course then there's the trains that just transport stuff in my city that always has some nice graffiti on them.....

I have never traveled in train (except for tour trains). There used to be trains for public transportation decades ago, before I was born, so I didn't get the chance of traveling in one; now only freight trains cross through the state.

I'm more of a fan of older trains (e.g. with steam or diesel locomotives) because of their appearance, than monorails, bullets trains and other modern trains.

Actually, I just remembered that I once traveled in a monorail, but it was a short trip within a city. It was okay, but I think there was nowhere to sit on, which made it a bit uncomfortable.

I've never been on a train, and I would rather avoid it if possible...

I dunno, I just have a really, really poor feeling when it comes to the idea of riding trains. It's funny, cause my mom hates planes, my dad hates boats, and I can't stand the thought of riding on a train.

I haven't taken a train; the closest thing I've come to being on one was when I rode the monorail to Disneyworld/Disneyland countless times throughout my childhood.  It wasn't terribly exciting, but I always found myself looking forward to the rides.

As a child, my father tried to push his interest of trains on me, but it never stuck.  I was never into trains; legos were more my thing.

Aside from the monorail at one of the shopping centers in Hawaiʻi and probably trains at Disneyland and those Xmas things at the mall, haven't really ridden on a train.

With that said, city's in the middle of a $5.3B rail project at the moment (well for my island anyway; recall that Hawaiʻi is split into several islands); going to take another 5-10 years before it finishes. It's making traffic suck like hell though; and while I did support it back in high school, a bit iffy on it now (probably because I got older + increased my math skills high enough to get an idea of its success rate)

I had a pretty keen interest in trains when I was younger. Had some model sets, including some from Thomas & Friends; I really don't recall what I did with most of them.

Still relatively active now, except without the model stuff.

Of course, mechanical physics dealt with them to some extent [engines + power], so I suppose that did something to somewhat revive it. I don't know.

(BTW, Anna from ZEXAL had zero impact on this)

Good stuff (for making ears bleed, that is.)

Keep in mind that we're discussing actual trains (you know, transport things); not the artist.

Please try to stay on topic, thanks.
