Future Fusion

Recommended Posts

Ban the following cards:

The Infernoid Fusion

Five Headed Dragon

Chimeratech Overdragon

Barbaroid

Divine Neos

etc

Then we can maybe consider it coming back to 1. Since as long as it's like a 5x Foolish Burial, then it's going to present some issues.

It'd make it possible to actually Summon a not-so-costy Worm Zero with full effects at least once in the list of achievements.

Other than that, this card's mill potential is incredibly abusable, as said above by virtually everyone. So I'm just posting for the above line which answers the OP question.

Future Fusion is one of those cards that was just "okay" originally and in theory, but became increasingly powerful as Konami began catering to the Fusion mechanic.

Fusion was always a problem because of how many resources they'd eat up. You needed Polymerization (or a Spell that does Polymerization, but has a different name and bonus applications, such as Power Bond) and two or three specific monsters. In exchange you got 1 monster that hopefully would pull its weight without getting annihilated.

Future Fusion let you bypass some of the restrictions of Fusion, by using Materials from the Deck, but you'd get the Fusion later, and if Future Fusion left the Field, the Fusion would either die (if out) or not get Summoned at all.

Purely on its own merits, Future Fusion is just "okay". I'm deliberately ignoring that they released Chimeratech Overdragon and Overload Fusion in the same pack. Because those are two more separate issues that both will be touched upon under a different heading. Starting with the next point.

Fusion needed methods to Fuse without using so many on-hand resources. This gave birth to cards like Dragon's Mirror, Miracle Fusion, and Overload Fusion - a Fusion card that used already expended resources, but often needed you to stay with a theme. Dragon's Mirror for Dragons, Miracle Fusion for E-HERO, Overload Fusion for Chimeratech. No seriously, what the hell ELSE did they make Overload Fusion for? Labyrinth Tank?

The problem with such Grave Fusion cards is that Future Fusion suddenly becomes much stronger. You send Materials, and then you Grave Fusion them immediately. The advantage thus far is how limited the Fusions are, because very few semi or completely generic Fusions exist. Bringing us to...

Why did Fusions suck? Because they required specific monsters too often. You had to run all of them (or a substitute, but some Fusions couldn't use substitutes) to get out the Fusion. To really boost the Fusion mechanic, especially once Synchros blew them out of the water by being infinitely more flexible in Materials needed, once Tuners and Synchros got enough support and members, Fusion needed to be more generic and more accessible.

Chimeratech Overdragon is already a clear issue of a semi-generic Fusion, because it could use any number of Machines. And then it was more powerful and could attack more based on that number. So the more Machines used, the more deadly Chimeratech was. And Future Fusion and Overload Fusion were clearly intended to cater to this.

Other Fusions, such as the Omni-HEROs allowed ridiculous amounts of flexibility, letting Future Fusion send specific monsters at a whim to the Graveyard, during an era when Graveyard effects and revival effects were coming out like candy. 5Ds era! And Omnis also made Super Poly problematic, but I'm not touching that problem.

To keep Fusions good, more had to be produced that would be generic or semi-generic. And now look at how most Fusions are handled. Shaddolls took a leaf from Omni-HEROs, Fluffals use 1 specific Material and 1 or more less specific Materials, often with bonuses for how many were used. The Odd-Eyes support Fusions are mostly just focusing on requiring Pendulums. Fusion is becoming really good.

And as such, Future Fusion is irreparably broken. The only way to fix it will be to nerf it to oblivion. Because modern Fusions are too generic to go the Prisma route. And without the milling ability that broke it, it's trash.
