Game Store experiences

I don't have stories nearly as bad as these, since my local gamestop is quite nice. But there is this one guy, who works there at certain times, who isn't really good (idk how to exactly explain it, he isn't as good, as nice, as helpful as the other ones). But that's okay, since there's another guy, ( get served by him most of the times) who is very nice and very helpful

Yeah all my experiences at GameStop stores have been great. The people manning the stores have almost always been fellow video game nerds and acted pretty similarly to most people on this site in that they were friendly and obviously passionate about gaming.

HOWEVER, my experiences at stores like Target or Best Buy have been...less than stellar. I'm not going to get into that because then this post would be probably as long as one of those stories, but yeah.

I still feel bad about our local GAME closing down (entire swedish division went bankrupt) if only because I had fantastic experiences with them every single time. Easily among the nicest and most helpfull employees I've met in quite a while, if only because of how easy it is/was to tell that they're passionate about gaming (and really knew what they were talking about) and ready and able help with any questions you had.

I remember just dropping by sometimes to check if a particular game was in stock, and ending up talking casually about other stuff because of how friendly and.... idunno, relatable(?) the staff were.

(though it should be noted that when that happened there were basicly no other customers there at the time :P)

Good prices and good service, I still cant quite understand why they went under, but boy do I wish they hadnt

Can't say I've ever had a bad experience at Gamestop or any other video game store I've gone to in the past. Sometimes we chat a little about recent games or whatever it is I'm buying, maybe they recommend me something that I may or may not follow up on. At the very least, all the times I've gone I've at least gotten standard politeness from whoever's working at the register.

I think we can put TCG/Board Game/Fantasy Game/RPG shops in this category as well right?

For games, I don't really have much bad experience since I only get games once in a long while, so I don't experience anything that negative. I am going to the Friday release to get myself a ZSS amiibo and the Splatoon ones, so I am going to have my first taste of that sort of experience.

So far, my GameStop experiences haven't been too bad; though might also be attributed to the fact that I rarely buy games, save for pre-order stuff.

Sometimes the staff there makes recommendations about certain games and stuff; usually Pokemon (because that's what I'm buying lately).

That's essentially the only place I even buy games from; save from Book Off in the Japanese store (only for a Clash of Ninja game for Wii).

(If only my USA consoles could play JP games...)

Is it just me, or am I the only person who has had good experiences with this? Also, those stories took some faith in humanity away.

No, I don't really have any horror stories. I mean I've been in the store with really obnoxious customers, but the employees are always super nice. My favorite is this one really adorkable black guy who is literally like the greatest.

I haven't had any bad experiences, though I have had one particularly good one:

Once when I went into a GAME shop (before they all closed down in Australia) the dude at the counter gave me the Mario 25th Anniversary poster for free since they were going to chuck them all out anyway.

Nothing too amazing, but it was cool of the guy to give me the poster.

Those stories in the OP though... Wow.

Oh my experiences with games top are ok select for a few occasions, depending on the location. Once they tried to scam me with xenoblade chronicles and METROID prime claiming it was new, but it had faint scratches >______>. It depends on the employee tho, the ones who know their stuff are alot more helpful. Once I barley entered the store when I came across an altercation similar to this one:

it was amusing but they temporarily closed it which was a shame because I was looking for Vanquish.

Never an overtly bad experience. A couple of weird or awkward ones. The only actually "bad" one would be where the Gamestop cashier selling me my goods was just kind of dismissive. And this wasn't even in my state.

Now, if we're talking about OTHER experiences, one time a Gamestop clerk sold me Borderlands 2 when I was 15 at the point when M games required an ID, because he clearly thought it impossible for a 15 y/o to have the facial hair I did. I told him, "I'm only 15 and a half, though" three times, the first giving a laugh, the second a chuckle, and the third having him give me a look that kinda said "Jokes done, bro, here's your game."

I dunno.
