Here's today's first!!!

A card I told Star I'd review :]

January 4th, 2008

WarriorOfSearingFlames.jpg

-Warrior of Searing Flames [~GBT~]

-This card is from Star's Sacred Beast Premium Pack, and is the 10th card in the pack and a super rare.

-First thing you notice about this card [after its name] is that it's a level 3 monster with 1500 ATK. A bit much you think? Look at it this way. It can withstand most attacks from yung'ns and little baby cards, and can kill all the searchers with ease. Fenrir stands no chance against it, and Gemini Summoner has 100 less DEF and one star more. So basically, you get a 1500 attacker who can get under level limit and Gbind, but not by Messenger, which is fine, as you're not attacking anyway.

-Here's an explanation of the effect Star wrote to me over MSN:

Dark Gaia Star says:

it's support for uria

Dark Gaia Star says:

lol

Dark Gaia Star says:

the effect, once per turn, you send 1 continuous trap to the grave

Dark Gaia Star says:

and uria gets +1000 ATK for each continuous trap

Dark Gaia Star says:

in the graveyard

Dark Gaia Star says:

xD

Dark Gaia Star says:

nOOb

Dark Gaia Star says:

it's okay though

Dark Gaia Star says:

your still sexy

Dark Gaia Star says:

and your awesome enough

Dark Gaia Star says:

to double post

So clearly it helps boost the stats of Uria, which is kind of nice. And the high stats make up for the uselessness of the Sacred Beasts anyway, so you might as well run three of these in a Uria-based deck.

-This card is only for use in a Uria deck or in a deck with low level beatsticks

-The only errata change that I would make is:

"Once per turn, during your Main Phase, you can send one Continuous Trap card from your Deck to your Graveyard."

Other than that, it's fine :]

-I'd keep this unlimited... No card involving a sacred beast deserves to be on the ban list. That's good news for n00bs and Star, even though I kind of dissed on his card xD

Art - 7.5/10 [it looks like that kid from Dragon Ball Z]

Name - 7.5/10 [Not too special, but it shows you what the card is about]

Effect - 8.2/10 [Good support for Uria's stats, but if he's not out, it doesn't work too well]

Balance of Level:Stats:Effect - 8.7/10 [From a first glance, it looks bad. But once you analyze it, 1500 ATK 3 stars is not bad at all.]

Overall - 7.975/10 [31.9/40]

Grade - C+

Verdict - It's a decent card, and great support for a really bad card. A great idea by Star.

Here's today's! This card was made by Darkthorne :]

January 6th, 2008

ChaosBeast-AggravatedAcheo.jpg

-Chaos Beast - Aggravated Acheo [~Darkthorne~]

-This card is the 31st card in Darkthorne's Chaos Beast set

-The first effect is pretty plain, but the next effect is pretty neat. Allow me to explain it. Let's say your opponent has a monster in their grave that Acheo killed. Your Life Points are up 400 already, and now, you can summon another Acheo by paying 1000 LP, which puts you down only 600. This card's efect is even better than Mausoleum of the Emperor, because that makes you lose 1000 LP for a 1 tribute summon, as opposed to Acheo's 600, and 2000 for a 2 tribute monster, as opposed to Acheo's 200. And if it's 3 tribute, you are actually INCREASING your life points. Could this be considered overpowered? Well... Possibly... But do you really run 3-trib monsters? With Acheo, since it's not super-supported by other Chaos Beasts, and it doesn't support them, it can be used in any deck. And then, on top of that, it removes those destroyed monsters from play. Think about the combinations with cards like Golden Homunculus, Helios, the other Helios, Gren Maju da Eiza? It combos crazy well! Next, you can treat it as a normal monster, so Soul of Chaos combos quite well with it.

-Clearly this card works well with other Chaos Beasts, but it can be used well in a RFG deck or even one that requires lots of tributes.

-The only thing that is really unclear with this card is whether or not the summon is a Tribute Summon or a Special Summon. Thorne said Special Summon, so it doesn't work well with monarchs.

-The errata is not too big of an issue, but there are a few minor changes you could make to it...

-The effect is so beastly, I'd limit this just because of all the amazing combos you can make with this card.

Art - 7.9/10 [Looks like a vampire - it's pretty cool]

Name - 8.7/10 [it's a really awesome name! I love it]

Effect - 9.2/10 [it's so sick it's not even funny]

Balance of Level:Stats:Effect - 8.2/10 [it's all fine.]

Overall - 8.5/10 [34/40]

Grade - B

Verdict - So... Many... Amazing... Combos...

Lo siento para el doble, pero tengo un otro repaso

January 6th, 2008 [bONUS!]

mdden003re1.jpg

-Ryszard VI [~Frunk~]

-This card is the fifth card posted in Frunk's "Frunk's Cards" thread.

-The thing that inspired me to review this card was the previous review I did. Aggravated Acheo and the RFG combos that can happen. So basically, use Aggravated Acheo's effect to remove 5 cards from play and summon a couple superstrong monsters, then Special Summon Ryszard, and now you have 4 super-powerful monsters in the game! How about this field set: Aggravated Acheo, Darkthorne, Darkthorne, Ryszard, and Golden Homunculus. Throw in a Solemn Judgment or Decree and you're slammin'!

-The thing I really like about this card is the balance of all the effects together. First, if there are no cards in your opponent's graveyard, Ryszard dies. But during each Standby phase, you remove one of their cards from play, and with that, you lose 100 ATK points. Now, Ryszard starts with a low ATK stat, but with cards in the graveyard, it goes up. The lowest ATK Ryszard can have is 1700, because once it goes down to 1600, he dies. 1700 is still a lot of ATK, and enough to take out most monsters. But basically, with a Golden Homunculus in the game, by dropping the ATK of this card by 100, you increase the ATK of Homunculus by 300, a 200 ATK increase in your field. So maybe it seems like the ATK drop is bad, but with Homunculus on the field, it's awesome!

-This card works very very very well in an RFG deck, or a beatdown deck, as well as in a Chaos Beast deck. Although I'd recommend RFG for best results.

-The errata in this card is pretty darn good. Great job!

-This card would be unlimited, because there's nothing with it that would make it broken.

Art - 7.6/10 [i like the background of the card, and the bloody sword... Although the blood kind of makes it seem less real for YGO [TCG only]]

Name - 7.9/10 [i like that he made it the Polish version, but it's not super eye-catching, and kind of hard to pronounce xD]

Effect - 9.0/10 [The balance MAKES this effect]

Balance of Level:Stats:Effect - 8.2/10 [1600 ATK is kinda low, but it's a good job that Frunk did.]

Overall - 8.175/10 [29.1/40]

Grade - B-

Verdict - Great balance of the effect, great in an RFG deck :]

RevivalMoleUpdated.jpg

-Revival Mole [~GBT~]

This is Star's Secret Rare rendering of the Michael Jordan effect. You ditch, and you come back again. Michael Jordan came back to the game with some half-assed game. Let's hope Star can do better than that. Intentioned or not, the name “revival” could be foreshadowing a return from Star, however he has personally informed me that he has indeed quit card making.

First, I'd like to say that Star broke his vow of never making cards again. So instantly, this card will lose five points from it's final score, meaning it gets an F. Just kidding.

To start the review, I must say... The name and effect go hand-in-hand. It's a reappearing little monster! Think Treeborn Frog, but maybe a bit less beastly in some cases, or a little more in others. Secondly, I really don't want to have to worry about the second effect, because from a first glance, I know I'm most likely limiting this card, and Traditional format is a joke. The basic gist [] of this review will be comparing this card to Treeborn Frog, so that we can decide which is better, as the effect is pretty self-explanatory. This review will [hopefully] be pretty in-depth, so that you can decide for yourself. So grab a soda and some chips, open up Treeborn Frog on yugioh.wikia, and prepare your eyes - for this will be my first review composed "hyphenless", meaning no bullet points xD

Now, we all know the beautiful combinations with Treeborn Frog and… Really any tribute monsters. But remember, this review is about Revival Mole. Now, with Treeborn Frog, the second effect is useless, as Froggy is limited, and like I said… If you play Yu-Gi-Oh!, people that don’t think you’re a loser, but not those who also play. If you play Yu-Gi-Oh! Traditional format, not only do people that don’t play YGO consider you a loser, but every self-respecting duelist on the PLANET share those sentiments.

So we’ll start with the first few words. In order to reap the benefits of Revival Mole, it has to be destroyed in battle and sent to the Graveyard. For Treeborn Frog, it just has to be in the Graveyard, so it doesn’t matter how it gets there. They both have 100 ATK, so you’re probably not going to be Attack Mode’ing it, which means Nobleman of Crossout is going to be very happy. And remember, if you get NoC’d, you’re not getting the benefits of either. So just based on how it is in your Grave, Frog is up 1 to 0. It’s just a bit more difficult to get Mole done in the way you want it to happen.

Treeborn Frog > Revival Mole

1-0

Next, in order to get Mole back, you have to discard a card from your hand. So there’s a -1. And on top of that, it goes back to your DECK, which means you lose your draw next turn. Then, you have to waste a summon on him, only to probably have him die the next turn. Some may consider that a -3, but I’d just call that a -1NeutralNeutral. With Frog, you can’t have Spells or Traps on your field when you hit your Standby Phase, which means that either you go an entire opponent’s turn without having any S/T’s on your field, or the only ones are Drop Off or something else that you are absolutely sure you’ll be playing (i.e. Mirror Force against a Six Samurai Deck). Because you’re essentially going one whole turn without a single card in your backfield, Frog could possible be on the same level as Mole in this category. Problem is, when you’re out in the field, it’s not that hard to go one turn without some spells or traps, so once again, Frog takes the cake.

Treeborn Frog > Revival Mole

2-0

After thrashing Revival Mole about the room, I have come to see that my previous hypothesis was incorrect. Revival Mole is too underpowered to be limited. In fact, the amount of work you have to do to keep him out long enough to sac him for something like a monarch is just too long. The odds are, you’re not going to be able to, and you’re just going to keep drawing him and summoning him, only to get him killed and you back to top-decking. I mean, the only great use I can see with Revival Mole is using him with Kaiser Colosseum [which by the way, is misspelled… Stupid much?] over and over and over and over and over again until your opponent runs out of cards. Except for I’m wrong. This doesn’t work because by that time, you won’t have enough cards in your hand to discard for its effect. So the only thing this is surefire with is either a stall deck, or Double Summon, and tributing it for a monarch on your first turn. But a Double Summon in a monarch deck is useless, so unfortunately, Revival Mole isn’t as hot as we thought he was.

From my first look at this card, I thought in an instant that it would be limited. But after this review, I see that there is no point. It’s kinda tough to use… So this card would be unlimited

Art – 6.4/10 [You’re kidding me, right? It’s kinda… Not so great]

Name – 8.8/10 [it fits the effect perfectly. And the foreshadowing I mentioned earlier]

Effect – 5.8/10 [Terribly underpowered to the point where it’s just unusable]

Balance of Level:Stats:Effect – 8.0/10 [underpowering aside, everything else in terms of balance is all good]

Overall – 7.25/10 [29/40]

Grade - C-

Verdict – Not his best work. At all. The name clearly carries this card. From a first glance, it looks like the new Treeborn Frog, but after an in-depth review, we see that it’s clearly not as useful as our beloved Frog, and we can’t get it in an awesome looking Ultimate Rare. Unfortunately, we are reminded of Michael Jordan.

Awwwright

Here's the next card, by Yankeefan07, with the awesome holo effects and star-out done by DJ-Osiris!

January 8th, 2007

8a4vz9l.jpg

-Das Veranden [~Yankeefan07~]

-This card is a Secret Rare card and quite one at that, made by Yankee!

The first thing you notice about this card [apart from the name] is that it has no level. This is something we have hardly ever seen on YCM [apart from him, I might be the only one to have ever done so]. Now, you gotta be thinking... "But yank, if he has no level, how am I supposed to get him out?" Good question. All you gotta do is learn how to read. I can teach you at the low low price of your soul. And 24.99 USD per minute. If you know how to read, pay me 24.99 USD per minute and I'll teach you how to not be able to read... So that I can teach you again and make a fortune! :]

Now, based on what level you choose for this card, it'll get an effect. Clearly some effects will be better than others in certain situations and decks. Allow me to explain these situations.

Level 1

"This card gains 500 ATK points and 100 DEF points. This card can attack your opponent directly."

The only time this card is really useful is when your opponent has less than 501 LP left, or in conjunction with some of the following cards:

God Kaze's "Dungeon Dice Monsters":

This card will help to get those 3 LP down to 0 MUCH faster. A great use for this card is in a deck running a million of those.

My very own "Divine Intervention":

If you run a power deck, then you're probably gonna kill your opponent eventually. Play this guy and attack 'em directly. Once Divine Intervention dies because of the LP difference, overpower your opponent FAST.

So usually, you won't be selecting this effect... But as you can see... From the get go, even with one effect this card can be used in quite a few decks.

Level 2

"This card gains 900 ATK points and 500 DEF points. This card cannot be destroyed as a result of battle."

Kinda like a strong Spirit Reaper. Great for tributing, run this Level's version in a monarch deck or something else that's really tribute heavy. This is the effect you'll mostly be using, but again... Different situations call for different effects.

Level 3

"This card gains 1300 ATK points and 1000 DEF points. Increase the ATK of this card by 100 for every monster your opponent controls."

So, the maximum this card's ATK can reach is 1800, eh? You must be thinking, "Yank... Why would I use this one when Level 4 has 100 more ATK AND a piercing effect?" My response to that would be to learn how to play Yu-Gi-Oh!. Get rid of your math problems, and learn what the hell Gravity Bind and Level Limit - Area B are. I teach a class on that. Only 24.99 USD for each class. That's a per minute fee BTW. So only use this level of the card when your opponent or you has GBind or Level Limit on the field. Otherwise, stick to LV 4.

Level 4

"This card gains 1900 ATK points and 1400 DEF points. When this card attacks with an ATK that is higher than the DEF of a Defense Position monster, inflict the difference as Battle Damage to your opponent's Life Points."

So, a piercing effect, 1900 ATK, no tribute? Basically, if you don't use the Level 2 version of this card, this baby might also be easy tribute fodder. Only you don't lose LP and you deal it to your opponent. Sick, huh? This is probably the best level to be using, without a doubt. In most situations, you’ll be wanting this one… Although rare occasions will be calling for the other effects. This is the great thing about this card. It can be whatever you want it to be…

Jinzo #7

Spirit Reaper

Something that gets under GBind and Level Limit

Airknight Parshath

Awesome, huh?

Anyways, in terms of the errata… Apart from the parts of the effect that I bolded, the other thing that should be noted is the stat boosts. They should be written like this:

“The original ATK of this card is XXXX. The original DEF of this card is XXXX.”

Or combine them with the magical word “and” [i have a class on that too. Guess how much it costs.]

This card would probably be semi-limited, simply because it can be whatever the hell you want it to be.

Art – 8.8/10 [it’s a really cool art job that I love more and more every time I look at it.]

Name – 8.4/10 [it’s pretty cool. Don’t know what it means though xD]

Effect – 8.7/10 [it’s pretty cool how it can be whatever you want.]

Balance of Level:Stats:Effect – 8.0/10 [Level? What level? xP]

Overall – 8.475/10 [33.9/40]

Grade - B

Verdict – The originality of the lack of a star is pretty darn cool, and overall the card is great and clearly usable. Excellent work.
