So yeah, they're doing it again. Apparently it's gonna be monthly. I am nowhere near knowledgeable about this game to judge the list, but I think the Towers ban is like 90% salt fueled. Anyway, discuss.

I for one welcome the return of our HAT overlords with open arms and a smile.  And yeah no need for Towers to be banned.  Just putting him at 1 should suffice.

Towers is already a searchable 1-of. The proper hit is Scout to 1 (wavering doesn't really work anymore) or just hitting wavering. Towers hit is silly, but understandable.

The list reminds me a lot of the OCG banlist. Do ARG lists follow that logic?

Anyway, about the cards themselves:

(a) BANNED

- I too agree that Tower's hit is beyond craziness. I can't even imagine people use more than 2 in their deck (unless they aim for an immediate, powerful advantage). Limited is just fine, it's not like there's no alternative to it (Skybase exists). Instead, Monolith should take the hit (semi- or full-Limited, Tributes abound in the Deck).

- People were using Dark Hole before. Banning Raigeki wouldn't make any significant change, except that the rogue decks would suffer more.

(b) LIMITED

- Um... Yeah, EDs are so against it. Still, there are Decks like Deskbot, Machine-based (hint: Fortress and Limiter Removal), Noble Knights, U.A. and maybe some significant others. Not sure if semi-Limiting would solve anything but, in any case, Nekroz are vulnerable to Spells/Traps (also, Vanities). IMO, Arc is the card that should be limited, because THIS is ALWAYS (as I've noticed) the target for Unicore. I was told that it's not worth it, but I can't fully understand why.

- Trishula is already at 1, why mention it at first place? This alone is too suspicious... It's like people cry "Please Konami, DON'T SEMI-LIMIT THIS!".

© SEMI-LIMITED

- With how relevant Synchron monsters are gradually becoming (if they're not already), One for One would boost their plays immensly. Fluffals: They love dropping cards to further benefit.

- With Reasoning at 3, Monster Gate makes more sense to be at 2. Despite being the better option for Hieratics, I can't see something else, except that, with this at 2, Reasoning should drop to 2.

- Compulsory at 2. No clue about this.

- Can someone explain to me why Bubbleman is hit in the OCG?

(d) NO LONGER IN THE LIST

- Debris at 3? Ok. Synchro Spammers, you'll rock this format!

- Rescue Rabbit: What Giga said, except the Artifact thing. (I don't even know what he means...  :/ )

- The only best use of Tragoedia being at 3 I can find of is the ability to summon more than 1 in a single event, going for any Syncho/Xyz play the player desires.

- I've seen Moralltach make so many impressive combats that I'm too against it being at 3. It's really good even at 2.

So this is the second ARG banlist... Eh, there are some things that I find a bit bad, but I'm actually interested in seeing monthly banlists, it COULD make the metagame more fresh. However, I think some of the changes are just questionable.

Raigeki: I actually like it better, since there is already Dark Hole, and it is less abusable (except by Ritual Beasts) than Raigeki.

Towers: I'm 100% sure that it was banned because the previous ARG format was called as "Qli Tier 0 format". But they take it too far.

Nekroz Unicore: Wait... wat? It WAS limited in the first ARG format too O_O

Trishula: Sure.

Compulsory: I really don't like this, but oh well.

One for One: Sure, not too abusable, but there are decks that could take benefit from it (Mystic Piper, Plants, etc.)

Bubbleman: This at 2 with Stratos at 1? I.... am not sure about this. I feel like HEROes are just good already.

El Shaddoll Fusion: Sure, They already had too much hit in ARG's first list

Monster Gate: It's fine for me.

Debris Dragon: So they want to make Plants being a Tier 1 deck. Fine.

Rescue Rabbit: I'm perfectly fine with this. Dino Rabbit (and other variants) are not as relevant as they used to be. Also, Tour Guide is at 1, so you can't spam Leviair to use Rabbit as much as you want.

Tragoedia: It's okay. Gorz is better anyways.

Moralltach: It would be fine in TCG, BUT ARG hit too much decks that HAT can actually be a problem for the format.

The problem with this list, is that it even changes the game, it doesn't do anything with the real problems and real tier 1 decks.

  • 2 weeks later...

what is ARG btw?

Based on what I've seen, it's a certain store's custom format. They make their decisions by getting a base of players and judges and voting on what goes on the list. The ARG list is only valid for that store.

The issue here is how it affects the market. It's okay if only the store's local prices get affected. But why should the secondary market be swayed by this list?

Alter Reality Gaming is a regular tournament host (also behind NEWGIOH) and card provider. They control a lot of the secondary market.

As such, they use this format in order to move stock. Like, they increased the value of Wavering Eyes, a promo, by making Qli a best deck before CORE hit. At least, that was the clear intent, and it had some degree of success.

Basically this. They have loads of stock and using this banlist they can increase or decrease prices almost on a whim. This is why vendors having control of a list is not good. They can not touch something that's getting support soon like with Qli then hit it once they sell the product they want to push, stock up on those cards, then remove it from the list.
