Yu-Gi-Oh! ALTER [Sign-ups, OoC, NSAA]

Agropolis, a city designed almost exclusively for Dueling. Founded only a few dozen years ago on a formerly barren island, the city-island is one where Duels decide everything. The schools are dedicated to teaching strategy, any and all of the roads can be converted to Duel Routes for Turbo Duels at a moment's notice, and it's become a standard date to Double Duel together. Naturally, in such a haven of Dueling, top players are the most ultimate among celebrities.

 

Which is why it's so shocking that Yasaka Horoki, famed Duel Champion, has gone missing.

 

A city-wide search is being conducted for him, but it is still business as usual for those who aren't part of a manhunt- after all, it's the time of year that the Circuit Challenge, where aspiring professionals strut their stuff and challenge any who will take them, is going to begin! It's almost too bad that the answer isn't as simple as anyone would first assume . . .

Now, this is a very different variety of Yu-Gi-Oh RP. First, throw everything you know about the anime out of the window: This RP will not make any reference to existing characters or settings in the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise.

 

Instead, the entire AGM card pool is open to use for anyone who wishes to join this RP.

However, disregard the "D-Order" archetype. It will make an appearance, but is not available to be selected by you protagonists. Also, no Numerix yet. That's to be saved for later.

 

You will be RPing as a citizen of Agropolis, participating in the annual event. You can be an investigator, as well, but I'd like for most if not all of the cast to be citizens, primarily between the ages of 14 (early-GX Jaden) and 20 (post-timeskip Yusei). I'd also like for most of you to be taking part in the Circuit Challenge.

 

That being said . . .

1. All IC posts must be 100 words or more. This is the forum's rule, not mine, but I will enforce it.

2. The app format must be followed as it is set up, NO EXCEPTIONS. There's room for everything you would want to put in, and Misc. can be left blank. You can only replace headings with spoilers if it's absolutely necessary. Also, don't spoiler your entire app. It's rude.

3. Bring in an explicit expy (I'd like people to help me on this) and you will be denied. This includes porting your own characters from other RPs as well as people from the anime.

4. You control no characters but your own. If this is by someone else's permission, make such clear to me. If a character must be moved due to someone not showing up, I will do so.

5. If you want to use a card that isn't listed above, it absolutely must be cleared with me first. Put question marks by such cards, and put them in BOLD.

6. This RP is meant to be fun. Don't take things too seriously.

7. Give me your Skype info, I'll open a chat room. If you do not have a Skype, get one. Apps remain open for a long time, so if you need time to set up a Skype account to your liking, do so.

I'd honestly prefer if most people stuck to the list, because it's there for a reason, but if it's entirely essential to the character I can look over cards not on the list.

 

If you do give anything not available on the list, label them in BOLD, and with question marks beside them, for approval.

She has a BWH ratio of 24-20-21 if measured in inches and 61-51-53 if measured in centimeters, giving her a bit of an athletic build. Galina doesn't where the headset all the time; only when she's on the job of actually commentating for a tournament's audience. But the rest of Galina's attire is as shown in the pic below, and on top of that, she wears white and green sneakers on her feet. She uses an orange Duel Disk which has green Monster Card Zones and a green Field Spell Card Zone, complete with white borders and trimmings.

  • Galina certainly likes the color orange very much. Even her food is orange...s
  • Galina was originally supposed to commentate for the upcoming Circuit Challenge, but a recent, more experienced employee had gotten the job instead. She took that rather well, and instead decided to actually participate in the tournament itself. While she won't get a guaranteed source of money this way, some dueling experience is a nice consultation price, and nothing about coming first place in the Circuit Challenge is anything to scoff at... and certainly not the prize money.

Ren Akagami

 

Age: 18

Gender: Male

Appearance: Ren stands at a whopping 201 cm (6' 10") tall and weighs roughly 82 kg (181 lbs.). Ren has a rather natural muscular build from being very physically active during his youth. He has black fuzzy hair with a red streak in the center that goes from his bangs all the way to the back of his head. He has small visible a scar under his right eye from when he got hurt during a fight as a kid.

Personality: People would maybe get the wrong impression of Ren out of just looking at him, but when they get to know him they would realize that he's very nice and kind. He has in general a positive attitude towards others and the world.

When he's dueling his personality gets jacked up even further. He becomes more riled up and high-energy, losing himself a bit in the duel. He will usually ignore a logical strategic decision in favor of getting a thrill out of attacking the opponent. This is both his strenght and weakness. Having the upper hand or not, Ren enjoys dueling fully and isn't a sore loser.

When he was younger he used to cut his red streak off hoping it would stop growing out, but he has since learned to live with it. He is however still a bit self-counscious about it.

Status: Duel School Student

Deck: Chthonian. Emperor/Empress Dragon and Deity/Majesty Dragon are his aces.

Random Trivia:

  • The more invested Ren gets into his current duel, the more he'll adapt his wierd speech pattern. He'll start incorporating fire-related words into his sentences, like: "Feel my burning attack" or "You think this is enough to quench my burning flame?". This can eventually stretch into him making bad fire puns. This is not something he does intentionally and will for the most part not even remember doing it afterwards.
  • Growing up, Ren always favored playing FIRE decks, his first being a generic FIRE deck with generic FIRE support. He has been through several decks before settling on his current one, like Volcanics, Flamvells/Neo Flamvells, Lavals and lastly Fire Kings. He likes his Chthonian deck in particular since he feels it fits his duel style perfectly.

So, Draconus, is it possible for us to play as villains of any sort, or are we not allowed to be villainous characters? Because, I have an idea for a villain, but I wasn't sure of two things: one, that we'd have to be heroes/neutral characters, or two: that we'd have to use AGM cards (not that they aren't cool, I just would rather use my own custom archetype for my villain, considering what his goals would be given what's going on plot-wise with this RP.)

I'm glad you asked. Villain apps will not be accepted . . . yet.

 

There is a very specific goal the villains have in ALTER, and I don't really want to waste any time running in the wrong direction. So, when the RP begins and the goal of the villains is brought to light, hero apps will close . . . and villain ones will open.

 

As for the AGM card thing, like I said: I'd honestly rather most people used AGM cards, if only to make cards and effects easier to keep track of. However, in appropriate situations, I will accept non-AGM cards and archetypes. Just make sure to run them by me so I can make sure that we don't powercreep too quickly.

 

So, teal deer, you could use pretty much whatever cards you liked, provided that I approve them. However, if you want to be a villain, I do suggest you create at least one heroic character so the RP can start and you can check whether your villain's aim would go along with the aim of the villain I have planned.

 

If you want archetypes that are easy to structure a character around, I have a short list:

 

Darkhorse, functionally, are Blackwings meet Dark Scorpions, with a really aggressive Special Summon/inflict battle damage playstyle. In terms of their theme, they are literal horses, and due to the name they're best paired with a come-from-behind style character.

 

Space Cruisers are, essentially, cool spaceships that get out Ranks 5 to 10 exceedingly well. Super aggressive, and due to having a UA-style "switch out" system they're huge hype generators.

 

Amazoni are an all-female Fusion archetype, and they're a huge advantage engine as well as having quite a few dirty tactics among their battle-based function. There are enough different character ideas here to drive one mad.

 

We have two separate support archetypes for Buster Blader, just in case you wanted the huge swordsman as your ace.

Yoriki is about 181 cm tall, or roughly 5'11 in standing. While his naturally bright red hair's a dead give away when you're looking for him in a crowd, his facial features otherwise are pretty standard, with a slightly boxed head and upward pointing, somewhat broad nose. His ears are rounded and small, and are often hidden behind his well-kept red-orange hair. Despite his line of work, being a police cadet, working underneath one of the head detectives investigating Mr. Horoki's disappearance, his face is a naturally grafted look of intense boredom, with sunken, tired eyes, yet a feisty glow out of his hazel eyes. His teeth are straight, but sharper than one might imagine, due to many stupid mistakes made as a kid. He isn't overly hairy, but when wearing short sleeves, his forearms are dusted in light orange hairs, just enough to be visible and give his body a slight orange tint.
 
He weighs about 75.6 kilos, roughly 166 lbs American. He's decently muscled across his body, thanks to his police training, but hasn't quite hit his peak muscle mass. Despite his tired demeanor, he stands tall with his chest out, like he's much more proud than his face would infer. He has longer legs than his torso, making his strides much longer, and thus faster. He pretty big feet, and subsequently larger shoes. Thankfully, these don't get in the way with his police work.
 
What you see above isn't his police uniform. Rather, it's his Dueling Uniform, should he get into a Tournament of sorts. His normal clothes are quite similar- what with the grey pants and black belt, however, he abandons his blue dueling jacket and brown fingerless gloves for a simple blue and black striped tee, with a spiraling white insignia in the middle, whose design is simple in design, yet hard to describe.
 
His police uniform is the standard of Agropolis City.
 
 
Personality: Laid back is definitely the word he'd use to describe himself. Not necessarily taking joy in fixing up his appearance for his job, or in taking a long time in deck building, he's also quite lazy; so much so you'd think he got the two words mixed up. Even still, he makes up for it with his calmness, and general anonymity (ignoring the blaring red-orange hair), making him great to send out into a crowd. He has a naturally calming, old feel to him, and the air around him feels warm to stand within. He's generally kind and receptive, even to those who've wronged him, which may be a terrible idea on his part. He truly has no understanding of what makes a person "good" or "bad", and this failure makes people wonder if he joined the police force out of his own will, or if he was forced to by his father- the police chief. While he certainly does take joy in capturing criminals, what's unfortunate is that he's terrible at spotting future ones, and he doesn't want to take the work to capture the ones that take effort.
 
Even still, there's good to weight out the bad. While no doubt being lazy is his weak-suit, listening is his strong suit. Not much of a talker, in person or in duels, he'd much rather listen to his opponent ramble on than him have to explain himself. He's courageous, but not a great speaker, and thus speaks in short, abrupt sentences, hoping to have gotten his point across, mainly because taking time to explain himself makes him feel singled out and nervous. And, while he has his own brand of "courage", some might call it apathy for what could happen to him. He's known for taking stupid dares, despite being intelligent, and for going for the highest risk jobs if they have little effort involved, and a lot of pay.
 
Status: As previously stated, Yoriki's a police cadet, the son of the police chief of Agropolis, Machi Edo.
 
Deck: Interestingly, Yoriki runs the Never-ending Town Archetype, along with his favourite series of cards, the "Goyo"s. He got the N-E Towns back when he was a child, and first learning to Duel, but when he joined the police academy, as a surprise gift for being at nearly the top of his class, his father gifted him the "Goyo" series. (If I need to, I'll make him only use one of these two, Draconus).
 
 
Signature Cards: Goyo GuardianGoyo Defender (These are the Synchros he goes into the most often.) Never-ending Town Vigilante (His favourite card, but he usually waits to use this card to finish off his opponent.)

[spoiler=Backstory]
 
Born to a young police cadet and his loving wife, Yoriki was the product of hard work, and unfortunately, death through life. He never new his mother, but whenever he asked what she was like, his father was happy to spend the next twelve hours gushing about how beautiful she was, and how absolutely striking she was, both with her unending amounts of confidence, and with her loving nature (that she only showed to him, of course). He only wished her body was as strong as her mind...
 
Yoriki spent much of his life comparing himself to his mother, though he'd never met her, assuming that if he was to be as impressive to his father as his mother was, he'd have to out-do her; the irony was, that his father was already deeply impressed with him as a child. He was smarter than most children by his age, absolutely eating up knowledge like it was the sustenance of life. Whenever his father informed him about a sport that was available to play, Yoriki hopped right on that sport, determined to be the best at it, refusing to let anyone else dare outshine him, though knowing better than to stoop to the lowly levels of cheating: after all, his mother never cheated, so why should he? 
 
This fervent lust to be the best continued until his Junior year of high school, wherein he began to no longer have the physically ability or mental ability to be the best. He was no longer the smartest in his class, the strongest, or the fastest, and certainly not the most beautiful looking- after all, those years of constantly pushing himself had taken its toll on him. He no longer retained his youthful outer image, and with his sunken eyes, looked much much older than he should've. Not only that, but he'd long since abandoned his purely optimistic outlook, his Junior years stripping any chance at him being purely happy away, leaving him tired, empty, and quiet. He became much more hermit-like, both in his physical behavior, and in his social behavior. He soon gave up on long-time friends, and kept solely to himself. He nearly failed his Junior year because of this reclusiveness and lack of drive to accomplish, well... anything.
 
Thankfully, by the time Senior year had come along, he'd climbed out of his funk, and once again, attempted at social interaction. Burned bridges were rebuilt, forgotten dreams remembered, and burned out motors fixed up. That glint to his eye... it came from re-discovering his old Deck, remaking it, and perfecting it. He found the one thing he knew he was destined to be great at: dueling. Not the best, but that was an unrealistic dream, he realized, for himself. He knew deep in his heart, he was not destined to be the greatest in the world- to have his name plastered on every wall and poster. No, it was his job to get people there, either by helping them avoid the self-destructive tendencies he'd experienced when he was a sulking Junior, or to keep them safe from those that'd wish to end their greatness.
 
So, in the end, after graduating from high school, Yoriki decided what was best for him was to join his father's police academy. His father was over-joyed, stating that his mother would never have let Yoriki join the academy. Yokiri jokingly replied that it took him two years to realize that he wasn't his mother, and he could make his own choices. Impressed with his son's independence once more, Machi (his father), gifted Yoriki the "Goyo" series of Synchro monsters to help strengthen his already respectable Deck.
 
Now, he's currently readying his Deck for the Circuit Challenge, even though he's supposed to be searching for Mr. Horoki with the detective he's working under.
 


 
Other things of note:

  • His first name is his mother's middle name, but it wasn't planned to be his name. His original name was supposed to be "Guran".
  • He abhors dogs, and is afraid of birds. He's enemies with cats, but loves reptiles. His favourite animals are humans.
  • He duels exquisitely, but makes sloppy long-term decisions, ending up with him over-extending his resources.
  • He loves all kinds of food, but fast food makes him drool (Favourite is chicken nuggets).
  • Favourite colour is maroon.
  • Favourite type of music is Soft/Normal Rock
  • Doesn't hate much besides the animals listed above, overly sappy movies and music, and persistent jerks. (Oh, and work.)
  • Guilty pleasure is Hype-rap. (And Disney movies).
  • Snores like the dickens.

So, the necessary changes have been made, and I will currently be making Edo's Deck (on paper, mind you) over the course of the next three or so days. In that time, I'll omit two of the extra deck cards (Probs gonna be N-E Traveler and Goyo Predator, since they don't really fit his feel (predator; he doesn't prey on people) and he probably just wouldn't like (Traveler, thanks to the connotation of someone who travels [no home/place = his time when he lost himself]) them.

Oh, one last thing: is it okay if I add Polymerization to Edo's app? I know I've already finished his form, but I kind of think using Miracle Synchro Fusion as the main Fusion Card of Edo's deck would undermine its value. Just a tad, I mean.

He usually wears a white dress-shirt with a black dress over-shirt, and black dress pants, and sometimes, he wears black gloves.

A snobby, british brat. At a young age, he was spoiled by his parents. He thinks he is the best person in the world and that everyone that has less power than him is just a disgusting piece of gum under the table. While impolite to commoners, he has a gentleman's feel when speaking to people having equal or greater power or wealth compared to himself and his family. He gets the most prestigious learning of Duel Monsters so he likes to show off, and when he does, he really shows off. Out of the few he meets that play Duel Monsters, he wins every 3 out of 4 times, it sometimes gets boring for him. Although when he does lose to these people he gets a little mad, although he has learned to cope with it every now and then.


 

Status:

Takei learns at one of the most prestigious Duel schools, and he gets almost top grades, they never go below A-, which he rarely gets. Although he did one time get a B in learning about Pendulum monsters, but he fixed that up quickly.
