Your Favorite Low-Power Cards?

Recommended Posts

What are some of your favorite cards that you know are not really optimal pieces to use in competitive decks, but you just love them based on past memories playing them, or think they're cool? My pick is...

Not very great now that defense mode happens pretty rarely, especially ones this can reliably run over, but I love the idea of just going ham with crazy piercing. I used this a LOT in the WC games for the DS, and it was one of my favorite monsters to use, especially early-game when there were more defensive decks, like people using Nimble Momonga, which this card hoses. It's also very fun with one of my favorite retro traps, Kunai with Chain.

What are your favorite sub-optimal cards?

I had a lot of fun with this as a semi-power card in a DARK Machina variant I built back when the game was slow enough for it to have some degree of success. This card does cool stuff if you think about it: Summons a Level4 Machine from the Deck for Rank4 plays, among its targets a DARK one with 0 DEF, handy for Black Salvo, Masked Chameleon, Druid Dru, Recurring Nightmare, etc. plays. The flipping effect triggers, well, flip effects, like Dekoichi in my Deck, and there is that infamous combo with Summoner of Illusions as well.

What holds it back of course, is that as Normal Trap you have to wait for a turn to use it, but really, if this was Normal or Quick-Play Spell, I bet it would have had a much different story.

Back when I was a complete noob playing Nurse Burn all the time, I loved using The Eye of Truth. There's always something about being able to see your opponent's hand that made it stick out to me, and in Nurse Burn its drawback is turned in your favor, so you'll be able to see your opponent's hand while burning them for 1000 every turn just because.

i suppose Necroface is not that relevant again with the total slaughter of Banish Deck....

5000 LP gain through Soul Absorption

4000++Boost for my Banish-Based Stat Beater

Deck Destruction

Cycle my Deck in Pinch...basically Duel can go as long as i want or opponent consistency is either totally messed-up or exhausted

but if you all disagree...well Card Trader then

Back when I didn`t know there was a banlist (when I was a noob) I always loved Change of Heart (because of Bakura in the anime). Now, that is an OP card so let me tell you another card then.

I loved swarm of scarabs in my OLD flip effect deck (noob era). I had cards like man eater bug, penguin soldier and SWARM OF SCARABS as my boss card and my friends were like that`s too OP since I had cards like swords of revealing light so I could safely flip summon it and kill monsters endlessly every turn. The amount of power I thought that card had was incredible until later on that I learned that it sucks.

D.D. Crazy Beast:

Up until like 4 years ago I could still build a generic EARTH toolbox deck full of weaklings of similar sizes do more or less alright. I always loved it when this card and Mad Sword Beast actually kicked their effects in, as bad as their ATK is. I wouldn't even care when I didn't get a draw off of Horn of the Phantom Beast, banishing what it destroys was a super troll move against floaters.

I run Ra-Roma. Aromages and Ra in the same Deck. I personally own every Guardian monster, from Elma to Dreadscythe, plus all their equips. I thrive off impractical, slow cards for the ham factor.

The biggest example though, at least for me, was Fire Princess. I would often just set up a Deck entirely of healing stall, and a Fairy-Type beatstick or two to slap a Cestus of Dalga on, then just get Fire Princess on the field and healburn them to death. Satisfying, if not exactly meta-relevant. A later variant did get me victory over an old-school Psychic Deck . . . for obvious reasons.

Can I be a cop-out and say all OG Normal Monsters? Like Metal Fish, Mech Bass, Yamadron, Golgoil, stuff like that. 'Cause there's just something about really old, really cruddy stuff that just sorta makes me giggle inside.

If not, then Fiendish Engine Omega (I can't do an omega symbol on my keyboard) would be the one. Never really had much of a chance to use it, but I really like the design and idea behind it. It's kinda cool and we don't really have anything like it.

Actually, hell, quite a few things we got from YGO R were pretty cool. Gorz, Divine Knight Ishzark, Puppet King, Mutant Mindmaster, the list goes on.

Don't know whether it is considered a low-powered card, but I quite like "Beast King Barbaros". It can be used for " Trade-In", is easy to summon while maintaining decent stats, works nicely with "Forbidden Chalice" and to top it all of, it has maas destruction available to it.
