I feel we need to make a YCM Splat Squad here as that would be fun...

THATS WHAT IM TRYING TO GET GOING.....

....

Or at least, hoping to do so.

Me, you, Voltex, Agro, Thar, Cosmo, Nai/Risa, and Shradow(I think) all have the game; It's literally enough for a 4-v-4 battle of just YCMers.

That's Awsome Armz!!!

We need a possible chat room or Skype Chat we can use to sort out YCM Splat squad shenanigans.

Played like 6 games of Rainmaker; Lost like 2 of them and won all the others.

Kraken is like the kryptonite to everyone in Rain Maker, for what seems like 2 reasons;

The first being that in a Kraken vs Rainmaker scenario, Kraken will win every time.

The second being that a Kraken will mow down everyone who is with the Rainmaker, unless they have a Bubble Shield, in which case, the person with said shield isn't the one carrying the Rainmaker.

I used a bunch of gear to prolong my use of the Kraken, so they tried to Bubble against me once, and I just sat there for a second then proceeded to run them all down.

Chargers are quite good here, since you can typically outrange someone with a Rainmaker.

Rollers make people freak out in this mode.

Weapons like the brush/etc, or anything you can move fast with, is good for getting an early head start on the Rainmaker itself.

Beacons are amazing in this mode.

etc

Seems like a weird passive-aggressive mode, because you have to move this Rainmaker into the opposing teams side, but how you go about doing it depends on what everyone in your whole team is doing, because it's a matter of escorting this one person to the opposing side, since each map typically lets you go about doing it in a few ways. So it's basically a goofy version of Tower Control, because a lot of other crazy things can happen in it.

So I finally played ranked mode on my own. As luck would have it, I didn't get to play a single game on Camp Triggerfish, which is one of the (i think) two or three stages I still haven't gotten to play on.

Anyway, I played maybe 7-8 games– all Tower Control on Kelp Dome– and only lost two of them. The first I'll johns on not knowing what weapon I was using and the latter was just bad play on my part (and also one of my guys going 0-5, the loser). ANYWAY, for the other 6 matches, though, I switched to the splatling gun and the average win time for my team was like 60 seconds– or at least it felt like that. We won almost immediately every time. I don't know what my k/d was, but it felt pretty ridiculous. My best two games were a 4-0 where we won immediately, and a more dragged out game where I got about 20-7 or so.

Splatling felt kinda broken at times lol. I can kill pretty damn easy with it, I'd say– especially if I see the opponent coming. All of my equipment has its main ability being super charge, too, so I get the ink strike fairly early. So basically, if you're team is pushing, you can just drop the ink strike in the space between the tower and the goal and getting that off meant immediate victory 100% of the times I used it.

Figure since we've basically got a clan going on, I'd talk about what Splatoon needs to see its competitive scene flourish.

Right now there's a $1million tournament series that'll be starting in Japan soon, but the rules are a little iffy. I'm not exactly sure how they're gonna plan on running the show, but right now the easiest way to run a Splatoon tournament is through online, even if you're all in the same room. That has partly to do with Splatoon not having LAN support, but also because you can't choose your clothing customization on someone else's system. But communication is still a little rough since you have to waste bandwidth on Skype chat instead of in-game party chat. There are a few other issues I can't remember well enough but by the time I finish writing this post, they should be obvious, so here's just a list of things that would need to be added to make competitive Splatoon exactly what it should be:

  • LAN Support: Being able to just plug 8 Wii U into each other locally for a stable connection is basically a given at this point for the scene to thrive.
  • Easy Clothing Customization & Loadout Accessibility: It's not a given that every Wii U will have every weapon unlocked– although maybe that's just my line of thinking because I don't play enough and therefore don't have everything. If possible, you'd want to at least have every weapon unlocked for all 8 consoles. But what about clothing? Abilities attached to each clothing piece are randomized. It'd be almost impossible to give every single player the clothing piece and abilities they want, so how do you get around that? The obvious way would be for there to be a standardized setup that every player can use. But also, funk that noise. Here are some better options.
    • Amiibo: We already know that you can use amiibo in Splatoon, but what if you could save an entire loadout and clothing setup to a single amiibo? You could make sure you were fully customized at any turn. The problem? Every single competitive player would need an Inkling amiibo, and it would all but erase the thought of players being able to counterpick loadouts if games are best of 3 or best of 5 (which they should be, bar none), because you're not going to require players to have more than one amiibo.
    • Special LAN & Local Mode: So that leaves the best option, which is very similar to what I think Smash should have done with custom moves: just let you choose them right before a battle without having to save different setups. We already have both a campaign where the clothing and weapons you use outside do not matter, and the ability to freely test weapons and levels without buying them or going online. So, as long as you are not bringing the weapons online to kick-ass, why not have a local or LAN-exclusive mode where a player is designated a competitive-inspired uniform (or perhaps, the choice of a few different uniforms) and can freely pick their weapon (albeit, not freely picking their sub and special weapon) as well as all 4 ability slots on all 3 clothing pieces? Hell, you could still have the amiibo thing just for if people want to wear their own clothes. This is the best and only good option, tbh.
  • Party Voice Chat: If you think about most esports, all the big events and top-tier matches are done on LAN setups, but the majority of games are done online. While voice chat in general isn't something I feel Nintendo needs to put into Splatoon, allowing it for a party comprised of your friends seems like a no-brainer that would greatly help Splatoon grow as an online-scene, which is likely where most of the growth in the game would come from, even if most of the spotlight would be on LAN tournaments (if they ever add it).
  • Nintendo's Full Support: This is something Smash doesn't even get. But if you think about it, Smash also doesn't get patch notes like Splatoon does (lawl). Nintendo does, however, sponsor many Smash events (and even added a pot at EVO2015), even if they never get their own feet wet by putting on their own tournament series. At the very least, Nintendo needs to sponsor Splatoon in the same way, but specifically when it comes to providing setups. Based on how many entrants would be likely to show at an event, a TO has to understand that a single match of Splatoon would require 8 different setups– whereas Smash only needs one. This is pretty awful for local Splatoon scenes, since you're barely likely to get 5-6 setups at your own local Smash 4 tournament. (Mine averages around 4-5 setups for tourneys ranging from 15-40 players depending on the week.) If any major Splatoon tournament is going to survive, in all likelihood, it'll need Nintendo to come through and provide as many setups as they can, all with everything necessary already unlocked. That'd probably be the real key to a scene's existence staying alive.

Anything I missed that any of you think you could add?
