Ancient Gears

Does Geartown not miss the timing if you pop it with Catapult? I'd have thought it would, but people seem to be saying it doesn't. If so, that's really good.

If it did, Catapult would be worded wrong. There is literally no point for it to destroy cards other than because Geartown.

It's bolts as well!

Reached my like quota sorry

You know whats honestly really funking funny about Catapult? The card sucks.

And I have every right to say this.

You know why?

Because it belongs to an Archetype that is slow as funk, gimmicky as funk, has no honest win condition that isn't a convoluted mess, etc, etc. So by all means giving them a funking E-Tele with a very small hoop to jump through is totally fair by all means. And you know why? Because realistically, it won't do sheet for the Archetype. It's a whole 1 card, among a sea of other dead cards. Sure, it has Geartown plays with it as well, but Geartown's "When... You can" clause basically makes it useless outside of This card; which just reinforces the fact I said they have convoluted plays. Gadjiltron/Reactor are useless outside of being in the Deck/Graveyard. Catapult is, for the most part, useless without Geartown. And Geartown is also useless without Catapult. Plus, This card being unsearchable is just icing on the cake.

Sorry, but it's true.

Well it is true that the card does nothing right now, however these are likely not the only new cards introduced in that structure deck, on top of that the next booster sp might quite likely include the hound dog series of that archtype ... so there might be worthwile targets coming out for it ... but as it is right now I have to agree, considering all somewhat worthwile targets are dead if you draw them and destruction is not something the archtype has, ... or search power ... or anything necessary to be worth playing.

As for Reactor ... right now I do not see a reason to care about him and gadget looks not worth it "But you can use Duplication.", I do not care, duplication is not worth it outside of such a play and soon as you draw your gadgets this play gets a lot worse, not to mention one would need to play 3 of the gadgets, which cloggs like crazy, I guess it is playable with gadgets ... but it is not worth it for AGs.

... Er... No it's not true. A good card tied to a bad archetype doesn't make the card any less good in its own right.

Catapult only sucks because of what it, currently, can Summon. Nothing is honestly all that impressive. Plus, Gears don't stick to face-up Spell/Traps while they control no monsters- you honestly won't ever main Castle, and again, Geartown is 1 card.

It's not like, say, Onslaught of the Fire Kings, in which case, between the nature of the Archetype, Island, etc, you can easily have an open field to play another Onslaught. Catapult, however, has little to no cards it would honestly stick to.

So if anything, if they really wanted Catapult to be good, they would need a way to actually fuel it. And preferably search it.

Did you see the Ancient Gear Chaos MAX Ultimate Over-Fusion spell from the Anime?

 And preferably search it.

I know it's slow as funk, but Ancient Gear Drill can search any Spell card.

Chaos Fusion is terrible because it's Poly-for-cost is stupid, and requires either a late play, or you somehow empty your Extra Deck quickly.

Scrap Fusion is terrible because it negates the Summoned monster's effects.

I'm sure they'll buff it for the actual release. Don't get your knickers in a twist deary

There's definitely going to be something good in this structure deck. Nearly all Structure Decks follow the trend of contributing some form if impact (RIP Synchron Extreme)

Catapult is a good direction, since requiring a face-up S/T for a free summon does encourage generic play.

If you actually manage to tribute both a Gadget and an Ancient Gear for Reactor Dragon, a 3k double attacker with piercing AND an Armades effect can be pretty scary.

Tribute Ancient Gear Gadget to get both effects :)))

Catapult can't target itself, much like MST can't.

3k Armades with popping that you can summon off Geartown. Why not?

My thoughts

Catapult looks like an apology for those ruling changes regarding Field Spells that screwed over Geartown. It's searchable by Ancient Gear Drill, and the Grave effect means that even if they pop it you still get some utility out of it. The token is a bit random though and I'm confused by it. I'd assume you're supposed to use it for Tribute fodder... Seems a bit janky to me.

funk, thought it was a Cont Spell

Because Geartown is honestly a bad card, and it's the only searchable piece off that combo. It's pretty frankly almost useless unless you hard draw Catapult with it.

Which actually brings me to my 2nd point, which now that I realize Catapult is not in fact a Cont Spell, it's bad. Not for the reasons Armz is describing, though that factors into it, but because it has no good pop targets.

"But Geartown!" I hear you cry. And here's the point: Geartown is bad. It's the equivalent of the Garnet in the Brilliant Fusion engine, except that you have to draw it next to your Brilliant Fusion for it to be functional. Running 3 Geartown is running 3 cards that do essentially nothing on their own and require running even worse cards to get functionality out of its non-floating effect. Running Terraforming is bringing that up to 2-3 more unless you run sheet like Sky Iris or something. And Ancient Gears have next to no other Cont S/Ts that are worth running.

I like the scale change. Means we don't need two different Pend AGs, just two copies of this one.

Pardon me, I was busy doing Eldritch Moon prerelease today.

Reactor Dragon is awesome. It's pretty good if you don't Normal Summon it. Double attacks and/or piercing is just icing on the cake. No protection? Suppression of S/Ts while swinging is a standard AG schtick for a while. Stats are boss enough to bash nearly anything so it doesn't need to pop monsters via its effect, and clearing out of S/Ts afterwards is always nice to see.

So of course they meld AG and Gadgets by designing a straight-up AG Gadget. Name-changing is largely irrelevant except for Machine Dupe plays or for synergizing with old-generation AGGD. Add a Double Summon into the equation and you get AGRD at full power swinging in and completely unrespondable during the swing. It's beautiful.

AG Catapult brings up mixed reactions from me. Yes, the first thing that comes to mind is pop Geartown for 2 SS'es, one of which reads "ignoring the Summoning conditions" to slam down AGG. But what else do we have that isn't a monster? AG Castle is something, but you'd normally be using that to Tribute Summon AGG - if you still do that. The next thing that would come to mind is something like floodgates you've used to somehow stabilize, but usually you'd also be using them to defend your board state that you've set up - including a monster - and they're among the first to go.

I'm not seeing a lot of ways to use Catapult barring Geartown until we see the rest of the cards in the Deck.

How about using Catapult to set up for the Egyptian Gods by destroying Mound of the Bound Creator, searching a God and getting a Tribute Fodder?

Where do you get the other 2 from?

Fun idea tho

EDIT to clarify: Other 2 Tribute fodder. not other 2 gods lel

Ancient Gear support is nice; as a fan of the machine-type, they are still one of my favorite archetypes despite their lack of relevance.

But still, I feel this new support is all over the place: a new cool boss, a sort-of Gadget support, and an Spell Card that seems to be intended to synergize with Geartown and whose way for summoning an Ancient Gear feels like a bland, cheap way to bring life to such outdated archetype.

Really, I didn't get the purpose of the name-changing effect of the Gear Gadget until Machine dupe was pointed out in this thread (a bit off-topic but that made me think that it would be cute if they also made a Gadget Rank4 whose effects depended on the Gadget monsters used for its Xyz Summon). And when I read Catapult's destruction effect my first thought was "Metalfoes".

Personally, when I read the thread's title I hoped for support that directly focused on their Fusion. I suppose Catapult helps by providing fodder, and Gear Gadget works with Gear Box, but that's more like indirect support, if you get what I mean.

Yes, I figured that much about the name-changing effect, but my point was that I found it scattered/unfocused. I mean, really, Gadjiltron support? Chances are you are better off without running them now that Geartown just got a better target, and instead use Gear Gadget for the Machine Dupe play.
