[SPFE] Greedy Venom Fusion Dragon

Recommended Posts

GreedyVenomFusionDragon-SPFE-JP-OP.png
DARK/Dragon/Fusion/Effect/Level 10/3300 ATK/2500 DEF
1 "Predator Plant" monster + 1 DARK monster with an original Level of 8 or higher
Must first be Fusion Summoned. Once per turn: You can target 1 face-up monster on the field; until the end of this turn, its ATK becomes 0, also it has its effects negated. If this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: Destroy as many monsters on the field as possible, then you can banish 1 Level 8 or higher DARK monster from your Graveyard, and if you do, Special Summon this card from your Graveyard.

Well...that's certainly an upgrade...

Is it?

Is it really?

I mean, the first effect isn't even during either player's turn. Yes, it can Summon itself back, but destruction still isn't that strong. I personally preferred the ATK gain and effect gain.

I've always believed Starve Venom Fusion Dragon to either be corrupted or fake, and this does nothing to quell that belief.  If anything, it makes it even stronger.

Well what I was getting at, was that every one of the Dragons that Yuya n' friends uses, has an upgrade that plays into it's Archetype/theme/whatever

Odd-Eyes -> out of funking nowhere -> Odd-Eyes Pend Dragon

Dark Rebellion -> Rank-Up card -> Dark Requiem

Clear Wing -> Add another Tuner -> Crystal Wing

Starve Venom -> Fuses with a Pred Plant -> Greedy Venom

And I'm going to assume its only Summoned via a Predator Plant as a Material because Starve Venom was only really played through Predator Plants.

Greedy Venom? That's...a weird name. Then again, supposedly the TCG name for Starve Venom is going to be "Starving Venom Fusion Dragon", so...okay.

It needs a Predator Plant + 1 DARK...that's original Level is 8 or more. I guess that's more flexible than outright needing Starve Venom. But Predator Plants better get a shitton of good support, or I'm going to be annoyed.

But you don't seem to need the Materials on the Field, so...yay for that. And since it's original Level, you can still use the new Predator Plant plus an opponent's DARK Level 8+, because even with the counter, it doesn't matter that it's treated as Level 1.

3300/2500, cool, Shooting Star Dragon stats. Also follows the trend of the upgrade having 500 ATK/DEF boosts.

Hmm...it turns 1 monster's ATK to 0 and negates effects. But doesn't steal them. Also, when it dies, you nuke all monsters, and then can banish a Level 8+ DARK to SS this back. That's...nice, I guess.

I dunno. Starve Venom on its own seems better than this, but only by a little bit. The whole Level 8+ Dark thing, plus the Predator Plant Summoning Condition annoys me because of how NOT generic it is. Admittedly, Dark Requiem needs Dark Rebellion to work right, but its effects are amazing, and Dark Rebellion is generic. Crystal Wing is generic, aside from a Tuner + Synchro monster, but that's fine.

Greedy Venom, however...needs a Predator Plant as one of the Materials. So if Predator Plants super suck, this card is worthless.

Randomly tech Sundew Kingii and this into any deck running a decent number of high level DARKs for a surprise boss. It's generic enough to have applications for sure while still working thematically as a Starve Venom upgrade. I like it enough for what it is.

Kinda wish it was Level 7 or higher though for Odd-Eyes/Red-Eyes decks. Predator-Eyes would be a neat hybrid.

Nice Darklord meme

Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon requires a Synchro monster. But this one just needs a Level 8 or higher DARK monster. However, the downside is having to either be playing a Predator Plant Deck, or adding Predator Plant(s) to Summon it. Though, you could use King of the Swamp instead. One thing this has over its predecessor is not being limited to monsters you control. So yeah; feel free to use Dragon's Mirror or Polymerization.

King of the Swamp can only replace specifically named materials.

Its funny how with Predator Plant Sundew Kingii that if your opponents Level 8 or higher monsters have predator counters on them can be stolen from their field just to make to make this (specially since Kingii makes them dark if they have a counter on them as well.)

huh, neat combo

I hadn't noticed that

[...] but eh I didn't expect a Dimension Dragon to have support for their user's original archetype. People will have to play PPs to get this card out (or use Fusion Tag).

Still wanted generic materials for this.

Same here, it is really not following the usual trend, except for dark requiem, which also only has one real RUM to be summoned, while this card only has kingii going for it, though teching kingii in several decks (like the earlier mentioned Darklords).

Actually it really should have been able to use level 7 or higher monsters, so it includes odd-eyes and dark magician (considering it as a tech in dark mage decks would have been rather cute).

However it does work rather well with gimmick puppets ... too bad they are not worth anything anymore ... actually it also works as a cardian tech, considering most maindeck monsters are fitting targets.
