Your Name

Lunar Origins

Recommended Posts

I'm sitting here, filling out paperwork to legally change my name, and I'm thinking - how does my name reflect me and my personality?  Is a name really that important in shaping who or what someone is, and how they turn out to be?

What does your name mean to you?  Have you noticed that people who share the same name tend to be similar in characteristics?  Do you wish you could have another name, or perhaps be nameless?

My name is to be Catherine ______ Jackson.  I'm still deciding on what exactly my middle name is, but I've narrowed it down to a few choices.
Catherine Violet Jackson

Catherine Adrienne Jackson

Catherine Victoria Jackson

Catherine Noelle Jackson

Catherine Ira Jackson

Catherine Elise Jackson
Mind helping me pick one, YCM?

Names are really interesting. They're for the most part completely arbitrary decisions made by your parents for you but at the same time there's studies showing the various effects on a person types of names can have. (Only example I can think of is that people with names that are odd or out of the norm in a given community have a harder time of things in general. No citation to speak of so guess you'll just have to take my word on that one.)

Ultimately I think a person's personality is going to come through whatever name they're given or go by but then I have no way to go about seeing if that's accurate.

As for me, I'm Andrew and I like my name. Probably because it's always been my name and I can't really imagine going by anything else. It means manly/strong and stuff like that which is ironic in part because I've never been much a of physically active person. I've met plenty of other Andrews in my time and don't see any common tendencies among them from what I've seen.

Moving on to your middle name choices, I don't know a ton about you so I don't know what name would sound like it just really fits Kate but I like Noelle and Elise of the ones you've presented.

I know for a fact that there are a bunch of other Chinese males in this state that have my first/last name.

Found a couple of them while trying to look up my profile on Facebook one night; but I have nothing in common with them otherwise.

(I probably don't care about who they are, though.)

Name-wise, I don't mind using my first name (hence why I have it noted in signature for X/Y business); my last name I don't particularly like saying often.

At some points, I'd wish I had the Mandarin variant of it, which translates to "ruler" (I find that one to fit my personality better), but then I'd have to put up with stupid jokes about it, so...

[You can probably figure out the rest on your own, without me explicitly saying it.]

I knew a few kids in middle/high school with same given name as me; there were some similarities, but not really.

As for your middle name, Violet/Victoria should be fine.

Victoria is easily the best one there.

My name is basically a romanized alternate spelling of the Hebrew name of Jesus. So I can't say I really dislike then and, and my name as a whole flows well, even given the namesake for my middle name.

i don't like my current name so i'm gonna pretend it doesn't exist

I really like Aubrey though. Nickname Bree works really well with it for obvious reasons, and yeah.

I haven't decided on a middle name for sure, I had one in mind, but I've kinda... Meh'd it. Not really liking it now.

Josh's last name works nicely with Aubrey too, so points to that!

I quite liked Elise from the list, personally.

Well, as most of the people that has me on skype knew, my first name is Arrisa.

Never really asked its intended meaning to my parents, mainly due to when I was a teenager, I thoroughly despise the name, though I grew to like it right now.

Having a name like that did shape me as a person, whether I like it or not.

It's funny cause a lot of the people who commented here so far know my name.

It's Ryan. Which is a decent name I think.

Names can be really important, though I honestly don't put too much thought into names.

As for yours....Elise or Victoria.

Ira is like "Wrath" or something I think so.... while amusing just doesn't sound right. XD

I'm basic with the names, I don't like anything too left field or out there, so I'd go with Victoria. That's totally up to you though.

My name is Jesse and I think I was given a pretty kickass name. I would technically be the fifth, but my grandpa and two generations before him are the spanish translation (Jesus, and it should have an accent on the u but I don't know or care how to do that) so I'll probably keep the tradition going to my son. Also won't be changin my name anytime soon.

EDIT: took my last name out. Ya'll don't needa know me lol

I like Violet and Adrienne.

As for my name, I like my first and middle names and don't wish they were different.

I have not met many people with my first name, about 4 or 5. But I know 1 person with the same first and middle names as me, which should be rare. I don't think there is much in common between any of us, though.

And yes, "ira" means "wrath" in spanish.

Name's Amir, it's of Arabic/Hebrew origin and means "Prince."

When I was a kid I would have preferred to have an average name, now however I've got a particular fondness for uncommon names and as such I've grown to like mine.
No idea how the fuck everyone on here already knows my name though, I was under the impression no one here knew my name bar like Ali and some others who actually know me fairly well.

As for the thread, Elise is dope. Go with it, don't be basic.

I do not associate my online self with my real self. I'm not ashamed of my name, but I do tend to be overly cautious. Just call me Tinkerer Bartholomew Melon.

As for my real name, I'm the third generation with the same first name, middle initial, then last name. I've always liked my middle (preferred) name (it apparently means "defender of man") though I never met anyone who shared it.

You already know about why I chose my name. I already did give a whole story on it in October with paragraphs of elaboration.

I don't like the name I was given at birth inbthe least, but then I'd most likely hate any name they would have given me. Either way, I would not respond to it online.

The name I actually do use was public knowledge at one point, given it was my username.

You could also say I chose it because of how much I love the Victorian era. That is one reason among many for choosing it, but it does feel like a particularly fitting one.

I was given the name Gregg named after my great grandfather. I am fine with it.

My full name is Gregg Michael Ong, but I also chose my confirmation name when I was forced to partake in the Sacrament of the Catholic Faith. My Confirmation name is Alexius, which is pretty dope, and I might change my middle name from Michael to it because I hate the name Michael.

It means defender or knight. So Night, guess you have your first member of the round table to protect your shit, M'Prince.
