Yeah, there's no denying that Synchro arc being dragged on far too long was a minus. I defo agree, and it is a shame the remaining arcs suffered as a result.

- It was interesting seeinng the characters from the different dimensions witnessing the goings on with Zarc now that Arc-V is active, including those from Standard who we haven't seen physically (outside flashbacks) for like 80-odd episodes.

- anime Zarc is certainly OTT, but at least easier to summon than Don Thousand's boss. Being treated as a Fusion/Synchro/Xyz is interesting and I certainly didn't see that coming.

- ofc Aster/Sora got wiped out, but I thought the interaction between Sora/Shun with the former giving the latter the pendulum thingy was somewhat touching, a far cry from their duel(s) back in the Standard Dimension.

- ofc by activating Crossover, Shun/Kaito suffers an intrusion penalty, it'll be interesting to see what they'll do with the disadvantage they've been handed.

• Oh yay, we see everyone from the other dimensions; including Standard.
• Anime Zarc is over the top, and literally treated as all of the summoning methods. (Well, the real one was already nuts, even with the summon requirements)
• RIP Edo and Sora.
• Zarc uses Scale 0/13 Pendulums, gets a bunch of LP and then summons himself. 
• Even the Academia admits that this wasn't what they wanted to happen; well, you'll have to deal with the world being destroyed now. 
• By destroying all of Zarc's cards, Shun/Edo triggered Astrograph and the inevitable fusion into Zarc. But looking at the episode, there wasn't much that could be done; even if they had known what the cards do [we can objectively say this, because we know their effects [least their RL versions])

While I have to agree the way they forced Yuya's Entertainment Dueling into the plot during the Xyz/Fusion Arc was pretty grating, my biggest problem with that is how easily he was able to convert the Academia forces. But by having simply running over his opponents through sheer brute force with disdain would hurt the show's main moral, that is, you should always try to solve conflicts through conciliation instead of destruction. Personally, I don't see any problem with Yuya forgoing power strategies like Jack's in favor of unconventional plays (I DO have a problem with him pulling out a new main deck card every duel, though), including some of the circus stuff - it's his style, and it serves as a good contrast with the dark side of himself and the world around him which he's got to overcome in order to save everyone and his own soul. But I wonder if they could deliver the message in a way that didn't spark so much controversy within the fandom. Perhaps if they had him play more like he did against Jack in the FC finals, where he used his usual circus critters in a more strategical, if still symbolic fashion to defeat the King, instead of topdecking a game-changing card with a goofy effect to ruin the mood. But just having him ramming up against all of Academia with abandon would ruin everything they tried to set up over the course of the series, specially with the Synchro Arc and Z-Arc, the whole idea of bonding with other people through dueling instead of focusing solely on winning regardless of consequences. I also reckon they should've included at least one scene of Berserk!Yuya hurting his friends or other innocent people to better solidify that idea. It's not that scary when it's only against a******s. But I definitely don't agree that he should've unleash berserk on BB and the other Academia goons and crush them with a vengeance like so many "mature" fans wanted him to - unless that immediatelly followed his transformation into Z-Arc (which is the only logical consequence of him straying so far from his path, as it's been discussed AND shown in-series several times), but then it'd be a bad timing for that. But I don't know yet what middle ground we could reach between this and what actually happened. Suggestions are welcome.

As for episode 136 ... it was ... alright, though it felt really short and not much happens, considering they could have put a little more effort into Reiji and Reira running to Leo, considering a few episodes earlier Reiji is still against Leo's plan.

I loved Zarc's expressions when Aster and Sora both tried to appeal to his inner Yuya. Just that silent smirk really sold it for me, and I just loved how calmly he dueled, which is a far cry from his original, violent style.

 

Also, now that the subs are out, the preview for the next episode has made something blindingly clear: The other Supreme King Servant Dragons will be variants of the Dimensional Dragons, hence the Zarcified DRXD we see in the preview.

Loved this episode, really.

 

But oh my god, Sora, what the hell?! STOP USING MAD CHIMERA. It's like the writers are trying to hype Chimera as Sora's best card, when it's anything BUT. It was conceivably his ace monster back in Standard, as he brought it out after exhausting his other potent Fusion monsters, but Sabre Tooth immediately became his superior ace with its huge beatstick abilities. And then they kept trying to shove Chimera in our face. During Synchro, he brought it out against the Security goons, and very noticeably, did NOT use its effect to steal monsters, since he was just comboing it with Death Waltz. Then against the Obelisk Force, it was given a triple attack clause by Tsusikage, which is the only time Mad Chimera's effect didn't screw Sora over. He used Chimera against Yuri...and lost. Used Chimera here...and lost.

 

Okay, okay, I get it. They had to have Zarc crush Edo and Sora quickly, so they couldn't give a real, drawn out Duel here. But it's just so frustrating for Sora to constantly use Scissor Bear and Mad Chimera...which were both nerfed so badly in RL that they're unplayable (still mad that Chimera halves the ATK of the monster it steals. Seriously, it should just halve the damage or something), when Scissor Tiger and the like are at full power or better.

 

And I also realize Sora was trying to emulate his "mistake" with trying to steal/equip Pendulum monsters to try to bring Yuya back, but it just...sigh...

 

That said, seeing Sora break down slightly when his and Edo's efforts to bring Yuya back had absolutely no effect whatsoever...it hurt. Also, while I liked his interaction with Shun at the end, part of me couldn't help noticing that this was LITERALLY the first time that Shun and Sora have interacted ever since Sora beat him in Standard, when he was still an axe-crazy nutso.

 

Seriously. Shun and Sora have not had any real screen time simultaneously for about 80+ episodes. All of Sora's side-changing events occurred when Shun was nowhere nearby, and/or Underground during Synchro (such as Sora telling Crow about the Obelisk Force arriving). By the time Shun emerged from the underground, the incident was over. The closest thing to interaction was post-Jack, when they were storming the Security Bureau, and Sora was the one to warn them about Roger taking Yuzu (via camera), and then the room exploded. And Shun was the one to note that Sora was unlikely to be dead. They glimpsed each other when Roger was Dueling Reiji, but didn't really interact, and then Shun was one of the ones sucked into the Xyz Dimension, while Sora was with Reiji.

 

When Sora + Reiji's group got to Fusion, Shun was unconscious in the Xyz Dimension. And spent a lot of time unconscious in the Fusion Dimension, too.

 

I suppose by now Shun might logically recognize that Sora is fighting against Academia, but it still feels BIZARRE for them to have an almost touching exchange when the last time they spoke to one another, it was Sora gloating about how he finally won against Shun, and wanted to card him.

 

I'm going to just assume that Yuya, Gogenzaka, and Sawatari explained Sora's affiliation off-screen when they first arrived in Xyz. It's the only thing that makes sense.

Haven't commented on the series in a while. 

Glad to see I wasn't the only one who thought Synchro dragged on for a while. I think the anime's got one more cour or so left to go; the overall episode count has lowered for each sequel and Zexal had 146 episodes. But I could see Arc V ending on an even 150 or something like that.

 

I kinda like Zarc's gimmick on gaining lots of LP, not what I expected. Not really sure how I feel about the whole Zarc and Ray thing, but I guess it's a cool idea that Yuya came from an evil entity. I kinda wish the series had the same feel to it as when the Lancers first formed, but I think this is still overall one of the better spin-offs.

But yeah, the Fusion/Xyz arcs could've been better written, and definitely the BB episode could've been improved. Yeah, we can have BB lose but just don't force the entire Academia (bar Sanders) to turn 180 degrees just because Yuya put on a circus act. As I've said before, there are times where his entertainment is appropriate, and that sure as hell wasn't one of them. 

 

Then again, we gotta see how this arc pans out within the next 3 months, which is about how long ARC-V has to finish things before the new series starts.

- Even Academia didn't want this to happen, but they weren't to know that this'd be the result of the Arc Area Project and that Aster took responsibility for things escalating like this.

- So Akaba Leo is wondering if the life energy needed to revive Ray was insufficient. (Now I'm thinking that Reira's life energy will be what revives Ray in the end seeing that she is communicating via him)

- Aster/Sora still believe that Yuya's heart is still inside of Zarc, though he gave them the silent treatment as a response.

 - Upon their defeat, Sora entrusts the task of returning Yuya to normal to Shun/Kaito.

the preview for the next episode has made something blindingly clear: The other Supreme King Servant Dragons will be variants of the Dimensional Dragons, hence the Zarcified DRXD we see in the preview.

Yeah, I'm sure they'll be somewhat different to the OG Dragons (effect-wise or something), but have a clause that treats it as a "Supreme King Servant Dragon" if it isn't in its name, though I believe it'll be included in the name.

I've just realized the writers could save themselves from a lot of controversy during the Xyz/Fusion Arcs by exploiting a plot thread that was left hanging from the end of Season 1: the army LDS was supposed to be forming in order to combat Academia's forces! They could've arrived in Xyz Dimension to take care of the foot soldiers (and help take care of the ones at the underground arena as well) instead of having Yuya magically convince everyone to change sides with minor help from Edo! OR better yet, if they insisted on going with the smiles route, have them help Yuya spread the joy to the Academia soldiers by supporting him in his duel against Edo and BB, something more akin to what happened to Kaito vs Dennis, where the audience's positive feedback helped Dennis change his mind.

I'm surprised it's taken this long for that info to be posted in the thread tbph, I know I saw that info floating around a couple of days ago with a corresponding scan or something.

Not surprising Gongenzaka and Jack team up given the last time we saw them was when BB was defeated, nor am I surprised that it mentions nothing of Sawatari.

Oh, I see what's going on. They're pairing the rivals with their corresponding Arc V character that uses the same summon technique - Sora and Edo, Gong and Jack, and then next is going to be Shun and Kaito I bet. For the final one, idk what they'll do with Reiji.
