Although Overlay Units take the color of the Xyz's Attribute that they're attached to. They're only yellow if it's a LIGHT Xyz. Then again, Yuto and Shun both used DARK Xyz, so the contrast might work just fine.

Ahh totally forgot bout that, OK instead of overlay unit what about with Overlay Network then, it is mostly yellow after all (and do have some black at the centre)

I would expect a class on Surrender Theory would less be "how do you do it" and probably more hypothetical discussion on when it is considered appropriate to do so. Almost like an oddly specific ethics class.

How late in the Duel is surrendering a valid action? When should you surrender as opposed to allowing your opponent to score the winning damage? In a tournament or other public Duel (considering how Dueling is like a professional sport), should you ever surrender? What are the consequences for surrendering at certain times, and how might it affect your reputation as a Duelist?

Because if a top-ranked Duelist surrenders, are they ragequitting, or are they being a graceful loser? Is surrendering anti-climactic, or is it an acceptable conclusion to a game you can't win?

Things like that.

I expect surrender to be an acceptable course when you topdeck something useless, or your opponent counters your play in a way that makes defeat absolute. Otherwise, you just end your turn and make your opponent finish you off, something that is nothing more than consuming time.

In other words, any scenario when a character can't do anything to change the outcome, and it's very obvious that this is the case, but it's your turn.

Yeah, I'd probably see the Surrender Theory as more of an ethics class.

The concept itself is easy to do; WHEN it's appropriate is another story.

I could bring up some people on DN and say that this class would be good for them (assuming that's what ST is supposed to be); but that's not really relevant.

Mostly on the ragequitting thing when they fight meta Deck and/or stuff they can't win against with their own.

Basically, surrendering's fine if you know there's absolutely no way you can win (LP near depletion, field is bare, opponent has field setup and will be nearly impossible to defeat, even with luck)

I'd definitely say the 10th turn thing is an appropriate time.

----

Then there's the stuff regarding Destiny Draws, which I would assume is statistics and determining how likely you are to drawing a saving card.

Using the handheld game stuff, it'll happen if you hit 4000 LP or something below opponent; I don't know. (I only had D-Draw in TF4/5, so...)

So basically, how often will you pull that one card that magically changes the game? Although in nearly all of the episodes within the series, the characters seem to always draw the card they need at the last second. (I would say the other term that a lot of TCG people use, but not today)

----

Also if it hasn't already been said (or common knowledge by now), the Jack in this one is an alternate-reality version (and not the same guy we knew in 5Ds, but very likely going to adopt similar mannerisms). Same goes for Crow.

Maybe they'll use their manga decks, but we'll have to see.

what in the world is "Inanimate Solitaire Theory"?

It is the theory that Seto Kaiba developed when describing how easy it would be to beat Joey.

Jk, but I think it is the idea of chain synching. Didn't Shivers-kid describe Yaiba's dueling as this when he dueled Gong?

It scares me how accurate this curriculum is to the RL Metagame's dynamics. Then again, Konami itself is involved with the series' production to some degree, so I shouldn't be surprised with their amount of savviness, even if Kon-chan itself appears to be quite genre blind about their own gamesometimes...

I think "Inanimate Solitaire Theory" refers to decks like Library Exodia and the like. The sort of decks that might as well act as if the opponent isn't there at all. The phrase solitaire is coined when the opponent doesn't feel like they're a part of the game, and are instead just watching the turn player play. Because solitaire is a one person game after all. Library Exodia, Unfairnity Loop, and Ritual Beast Loop are example of solitaire decks, as they take forever to finish their turn, and they mostly win by boring the tits of their opponent until they quit.

Granted, it is a part of the Synchro Curriculum, and could indeed refer to multiple Synchro summons, ah la placing cards one on top of the other like in solitaire.
Episode 56: Security’s Perfect Encirclement!

Yuuya and co. have entered the Synchro Dimension, but the only people around Yuuya are Sawatari, Serena, and Reira. They tried to search for their missing friends, but were immediately discovered by the Security.

Episode 57: Crow Hogan – The Black Whirlwind

The name of the man who rescued Yuuya and co. from their ordeal was Crow Hogan. Yuuya and co. then temporarily hide in Crow’s hideout, and received some eyewitness information about Yuugo and Yuzu from the children who live there. Meanwhile, Dennis and Gongenzaka wander through the City. In order to gain some information about the Lancers, the two of them began Dueling, but…

Episode 58: Invitation to the Dark Duel

A mysterious and shady man named Gallager appeared before Gongenzaka and Dennis. While Gongenzaka was filled with suspicions toward the man, Dennis was enthusiastic as they followed Gallager to an underground duel arena. Much to their surprise, Kurosaki Shun was participating in a Duel there, while the crowd cheered him on! In spite of Gongenzaka's objection, Dennis challenged Kurosaki to a Riding Duel!

Episode 59: Underground Riding Duel!!

Dennis deployed his Pendulum Summon in his Duel against Kurosaki. Detecting that Summon, Roger, the Director of the Public Security Maintenance Bureau, decided to keep an eye on them. On the other hand, Reira was depressed since Reiji is not with him. Yuuya wants to make Reira smile. However, a slight discrepancy of opinions arises between Crow and Yuuya, causing some hostility between them.
- I'm not surprised that everyone ended up being split up on arrival in the Synchro dimension, and I assume Yuya and co ended up in the tops area to grab the attention of security.

- It's nice that we'll be seeing Crow in like 2 weeks. I can't wait till we see Jack in the future.

- Dennis and Shun having a riding duel? Hmmm... interesting.

- It appears that Roger has a summon detection device similar to Reiji's in Standard. That being said, the previews say that Dennis used Pendulums against Shun, so he either still has the Pendulums from the Battle Royale, or Performages are getting their own pendulums.
56: How does that happen? Probably assuming the Dimension Mover malfunctioned for the other guys.

Let's see if Yuya gets a criminal mark for this; assuming he goes in the Tops area for this.

57: We see alternate-reality Crow? Hmm, interesting.

On that note, Gongenzaka will fit well into City, since he can Synchro. As for Dennis, I have no clue.

58: Doing Xyz in a Turbo Duel. I'm tempted to say that's weird (given how much we've seen of the 5Ds one), but is definitely possibly.

Now if only the Turbo Duel mode in YGOPro worked properly.

59: So that Roger guy is basically alternate reality Goodwin; not surprised about this.

And if Yuya makes an enemy out of Crow, things will not go well for him. If they duel, Crow will likely cream him.
Short notes, but not much I can really say.
-Episode feel like early 5d's yusei vs ushio, except its less intense

-The duel is pretty linear, and the trap hyugo used feel so random...."dice" monster? why not make it speed roid monster instead, not like the effect has anything to do with dice anyway....

-unlike 5d's the security doesnt just give up after their guy defeated in a duel

-The lancers landed in synchro dimension, but only 4 of them?

-Security immediately surround them, how can they be detected so quickly, and on common area?

-Lancers vs security next episode, doesnt seem reira will be joining the fight though

-Yuya's entertainment duel is back!

the duel is pretty bland but the plot advancement is still interesting....

cant wait to see yuya's entertainment duel again, now vs security

Now that I look at it, Monster Effect negation studies is under the Xyz Course.

Isn't this some self-aware joke about ZEXAL and how frequently effects got negated? It must be something if a drinking game leaves a note about that...

least healthy drinking game ive ever heard of

I'm going to assume that yes, it totally is a meta joke about Zexal's obsession with effect negation, a trend that pretty much started with Black Ray Lancer and then got ridiculous.
• So Yuya and Serena arrived just in sight of a group of securities looking for Yugo and Yuzu after they got away from the security.
 • Sawatari and Reira are dragged into it by a combination of association and Sawatari not being able to STFU.
 • Speed World Neo is completely pointless.
 • And the guy who replaced the Professor in the opening randomly moves chess pieces in time with Yugo/Security's duel. Am I the only one that finds this "symbolic" element not symbolic and all and just boringly clichè at this point?
- More 5Ds nostalgia (Jutte Fighter, Descending Lost Star, Torapart, Gate Blocker), me like.

- New Speed World is completely pointless

- Jean-Michel Roger moving chess pieces in time with Yugo/Security duel did get boring after a while tbh.

- As soon as Yuya and Serena arrived (w Sawatari and Reira), they got mistaken for Yugo and Yuzu whom Security are looking for after getting away.

 - That being said, I do like how they got boxed in by Gate Blockers to prevent them from getting away.
.
Last time’s Egao Count: 44

Yuzu: During the Junior Youth Championship’s Battle Royale,
My bracelet glowed, and I was teleported to a different dimension.
To a world without Yuuya and everyone…

Security Officer: The escaping D-Wheeler
Is currently on Highway Number 8.
Duel Chaser 227 has located him, and is currently in pursuit.
The D-Wheeler has refused to follow our order and will not pull over.

Security Officer: Requesting permission for coercive enforcement, sir.

Jean-Michel: You have my permission to force him into a Duel.
So go ahead and restrain those who dare to defy the Security’s orders.
And be quick about it.

Duel Chaser Nini-nana: Field Magic, Speed World – Neo, Set On!

Duel Chaser Nini-nana’s D-Wheel: Duel Mode. On. Autopilot. Standby.

Commoner: It’s a Duel!

Female Announcer: A Duel is commencing. A Duel is commencing.
All vehicles that are currently on the route,
Please exit immediately.
A Duel is commencing. A Duel is commencing.
All vehicles that are currently on the route,
Please exit immediately.

Yuugo: What’s your name?

Yuzu: Eh?

Yuugo: You still haven’t told me your name.

Yuzu: My name is Yuzu. Hiiragi Yuzu.

Yuugo: All right. You’d better hold on tight, Yuzu!
I’m gonna show you what a Riding Duel is like!

RIDING DUEL! ACCELERATION!

(Opening Sequence)

Security Officer: Speed World – Neo has been successfully deployed!
A link with the escaping D-Wheel has been established.
It is currently being managed by Speed World – Neo.
Director. Duel Chaser 227
Has commenced a Duel!

Jean-Michel: What’s the course?

Security Officer: It’s the STC06 route that ran from The Tops’ villa sector
To the center of the City.

Jean-Michel: Splendid.

Yuugo: I’ll take the first turn! Let’s do this!!
It’s my turn!
I summon Speedroid Three-Eyed Dice from my hand!
When there is a WIND monster on my field,
I can Special Summon Speedroid Taketonborg from my hand!
I tune the Level-3 Taketonborg with the Level-3 Three-Eyed Dice!
Cursed blade bearing the form of the cross.
Shred all your enemies to pieces with your power!
Synchro Summon!
Come forth! Highspeedroid Maken Dahma!

Yuzu: Synchro Summon…

Yuugo: Here we go! I activate Maken Dahma’s effect!
Once per turn, I can banish a Speedroid from my graveyard,
And inflict 500 points of damage to my opponent!

Yuugo: All right! Now we have a head-start on him!
I set one card facedown and end my turn!

Yuzu: (girly screams)

Yuzu: Hey…Hey! Are you seriously planning to Duel and ride the motorcycle at the same time?

Yuugo: Well, duh!

Yuzu: SERIOUSLY!??

Yuzu: (girly scream)

Yuzu: Isn’t this kind of dangerous?
This is why I prefer to Duel on the ground!
What is it now?

Yuugo: Tch… They’re already here.

Melissa: Citizens of the City, good evening!
I’m the Top Reporter of Top City TV, Melissa Claire!
Tonight, we shall deliver everyone a break-taking chase and a super-duper-exciting Riding Duel!

Security Officer #2: Director.
A news helicopter has arrived above Speed World.

Jean-Michel: Well, isn’t that nice?
The Tops people don’t have anything better to do with their free time, do they?
Very well, then.
Let’s take a little detour.
Switch from STC06 route to 11.

Security Officer #2: Understood.

Yuugo: Let’s go over there!

Melissa: an elite Duel Chaser of the Security’s Vs. a pair of fugitives!
The first turn has ended.
The Duel Chaser has received 500 damage,
So, our fugitives currently have a head-start over him.
Where will this battle go?
How will this chase conclude?
This will be a jaw-dropping broadcast,
And the ultimate entertainment!
I, Melissa Claire the Top Reporter,
Can guarantee that.

Yuugo: All right! Bring it on!
Everyone is getting impatient in front of their TV!

Duel Chaser Nini-nana: I’m just going to say this.
When you have a Riding Duel with me, your chance of being arrested is 100%!
There’s no way I’m going to lose to a worthless street rat like you!

Duel Chaser Nini-nana: It’s my turn!
I summon Jutte Knight from my hand!
Furthermore, when my opponent controls a Synchro Monster,
I can lower its ATK by 500,
And Special Summon Sasumata Gardna in defense position from my hand!
I tune the Level-3 Sasumata Gardna with the Level-2 Jutte Knight!
He will hunt you down all the way to the bottom of hell!
Behold! The righteous spirit!
Synchro Summon! Come on out!
Level-5, Goyo Chaser!

Yuzu: Even the policeman is using Synchro Summon.
Then…This really is the Synchro Dimension!

Duel Chaser Nini-nana: Go!
I attack Maken Dahma with Goyo Chaser!

Melissa: The fugitive has taken 200 damage!

Jean-Michel: There’s still more. Goyo Chaser’s effect activates.

Duel Chaser Nini-nana: When this card destroys a monster in battle, it can halve that monster’s ATK and Special Summon it to my field!

Yuugo: Say what!?

Jean-Michel: Then, he’ll attack directly with Maken Dahma.

Yuugo: That’s cheating!
You can’t just use my monster like that!

Melissa: What an effective maneuver!
The fugitive has received 1100 damage!

Yuzu: A-Are you all right?

Yuugo: Heh…This is gonna be fun.

Duel Chaser Nini-nana: I set one card facedown and end my turn!

Jean-Michel: Just two more turns.
Send a Security patrol squad
to Point 5 of Town D Sector.
The Duel will most likely be concluded in the vicinity of that area.

Security lackey: Understood.

Jean-Michel: And just so that the Commons who saw the broadcast
Won’t do anything funny,
Raise the Vigilance Level of the entire City to 5.

Melissa: This truly is a back-and-forth match!
How will our fugitive counterattack in the next turn?

Yuugo: Let’s go full throttle! It’s my turn!
I summon Speedroid Ohajikid!
On the turn that this card is successfully summoned,
I can target a tuner monster in my opponent’s graveyard,
And perform a Synchro Summon using Ohajikid.
I choose Jutte Knight!
This is payback for using my monster!
I tune the Level-3 Ohajikid with the Level-2 Jutte Knight!
Synchro Summon!
Spirit filled with burning desire for sword fighting!
Come on out! Level-5!
Highspeedroid Chanbarider!

Melissa: The fugitive had managed to Synchro Summon by stealing the Duel Chaser’s monster!

Yuugo: All right, Battle!
I attack Maken Dahma with Chanbarider!
Chanbarider’s effect also activates!
When this card battles, its ATK is increased by 100!
There’s more! Due to its effect, Chanbarider can attack twice during the Battle Phase!

Duel Chaser Nini-nana: What?

Yuugo: Go! Chanbarider!
Attack Goyo Chaser! And when Chanbarider battles, its ATK is increased by 100!

Yuugo: Hell yeah!

Melissa: The fugitive has inflicted heavy damage to the Duel Chaser with his consecutive attacks!
This battle is more intense than expected!

Jean-Michel: Hehe… Unfortunate for you, I’ve already planned out our three chess moves.
And it will all end with the third move.

Duel Chaser Nini-nana: Trap, activate! Descending Lost Star!
With this card’s effect, I can target a Synchro Monster in my graveyard,
And Special Summon it in defense position!
Be revived! Goyo Chaser!
However, Goyo Chaser’s effect will be negated.
Its Level is reduced by one.
And its DEF becomes 0.
Furthermore, I cannot change its battle position.

Melissa: Take a look at this!
The Duel Chaser has brought back Goyo Chaser!

Yuugo: I end my turn with this.

Melissa: However, so far, the fugitive still has the upper hand over the Duel Chaser!
His Dueling skill is certainly commendable.

Jean-Michel: Have the upper hand? Hehe…
I think our Top Reporter is getting her facts wrong.
He’s going to get checked sooner or later.

(Chess commercial. Brb)

Melissa: The Duel Chaser has moved to the front of the fugitive!

Yuugo: You’re smarter than I thought.

Duel Chaser Nini-nana: As long as I’m in front of you,
Whether you move right or left, you won’t be able to get out. (Um, chess analogy?)
I never leave a blind spot unguarded!

Yuugo: Oh, really?

Yuzu: Eh? Kyaaaah!

Yuugo: You’re full of openings, chum!

Duel Chaser Nini-nana: You scum!

Melissa: T-The fugitive just…Did he just run on the wall of the highway?

Yuzu: Don’t be reckless!

Yuugo: I’ve told you that if I lose here, we’ll be sent to the detention facility, no?
If that happens, I won’t be able to participate in the Friendship Cup!
I won’t be able to rise to the top!
In this world, the only way to climb up is through Dueling!
It’s a means of survival!

Yuzu: Dueling is a means of survival?

Yuugo: All right, come and get me!
If you want to catch me, you have to win this Duel!

Duel Chaser Nini-nana: Damn street-rat. It’s my turn!
I summon Torapart from my hand!
I tune the Level-4 Goyo Chaser with Torapart!
Seize them with the fangs of the savage beast!
Synchro Summon! Level-6! Goyo Predator!
Time to put you in your place!
I attack Chanbarider with Goyo Predator!

Yuugo: Due to its effect, Chanbarider’s ATK increases by 100 when it battles!

Jean-Michel: When Goyo Predator destroys a monster in battle, it can Special Summon that monster.

Melissa: Check this out!
The Duel Chaser has brought the fugitive’s monster to his side!
It’s about time for the climax!

Yuugo: Hey! You’re stealing my monster again?
Why do you Security people resort to these underhanded methods?

Duel Chaser Nini-nana: We will capture our runaway criminals by any means!
Arresting you is all that matters!

Jean-Michel: Attack directly with Chanbarider.

Duel Chaser Nini-nana: When Chanbarider battles, its ATK increases by 100!

Yuzu: Chanbarider can attack twice!
If you take the next direct attack…

Duel Chaser Nini-nana: Exactly! This is the end!

Jean-Michel: Checkmate.
(Why didn’t he use the card he set in the first turn?)
Duel Chaser 227!
Don’t use your second direct attack yet!

Duel Chaser Nini-nana: Once again, my 100% arrest ratio is unbroken!
I’m going to get a promotion!
I’ll attack directly again with Chanbarider!

Yuugo: Trap Card, Dice Roll Battle!
When I receive an attack when my Life is below 1000,
I can send a Dice monster from my hand to the graveyard,
and Synchro Summon using the monsters in my graveyard as materials!

Duel Chaser Nini-nana: What?

Yuugo: I send Red-Eyed Dice from my hand to the graveyard!
I tune the Level-6 Maken Dahma and the Level-1 Red-Eyed Dice in my graveyard together!
Spread your beautiful and majestic wings.
Strike down our enemies with the speed of light!
Synchro Summon! Come forth!
Level-7! Clear Wing Synchro Dragon!
Then, due to Dice Roll Battle’s effect, all of my opponent’s monsters must battle Clear Wing!
When Chanbarider battles, its ATK increases by 100.
However, when a Level-5 or above monster on the field activates its effect, Clear Wing Synchro Dragon can negate its effect, and destroy it!

Duel Chaser Nini-nana: What!?

Yuugo: Dichroic Mirror!
Then, until the end of the turn, Clear Wing Synchro Dragon will gain ATK equal to the destroyed monster's ATK!

Duel Chaser Nini-nana: 4-4600 ATK!?

Yuugo: Alrighty. Due to Dice Roll Battle’s effect, Goyo Predator must battle Clear Wing!

Duel Chaser Nini-nana: T-this can’t be real!

Yuugo: Go!
I attack Goyo Predator with Clear Wing Synchro Dragon!
Helldive Whirlwind Slasher!

Duel Chaser Nini-nana: AAAAAAHHHHHHH!

Yuzu: You did it!

Melissa: Wha…What a surprising turn of events!
The fugitive had defeated the elite Duel Chaser of Security!

Jean-Michel: Cancel the course and lead the fugitives to Point 5 of D Sector.
Blockade the highway’s exit.
Call in the nearby Security for backup, so that we can prepare for anything.

Security Officer #2: Understood.

Jean-Michel: 227… This is not how you end your career. (tosses queen chess piece away).

Yuzu: We should be fine now, right?

Yuugo: Don’t be silly.

Yuzu: A-A wall!?

Yuugo: Hold on tight!

Yuzu: EEEEEEh?

Yuugo: What an annoying bunch!

Yuzu: Stop! Stop!

Security: Here they come!

(Yuugo defies the laws of physics and jumps over the Securities)

Security: A-After them!

Melissa: Wow, I did not see this coming!
The fugitive not only won the Duel,
But also successfully broke through the road block and escaped!
Now, they’ll be looking for him.
All right, Melissa Claire, signing out!

Security lackey: Blockade the route from Town D Sector to R Sector immediately!

Security lackey #2: All patrolling Security in the vicinity, pursue the fugitives at once!

Security lackey #3: We’ve got a photo of the fugitive and his accomplice!
Search for them right now!

SAWATARI-SAN: Traveling across dimensions sure isn’t a pleasant experience.

Yuuya: This place is…

Serena: This is probably the Synchro Dimension.

Yuuya: Yuzu is somewhere in this place…
There’s another city above this town?
Where is Gongenzaka? Where are the others?

Security mook: This is the Security.
We had you completely surrounded!

SAWATARI-SAN: What are these guys talking about?

Security mook #08: We’ve found them!
Their clothes are different, but they definitely have the same faces!
They also have some accomplices with them!

Jean-Michel: Arrest them at once.

Yuuya: W-wait! Reira!

(Reira runs into a wall)

Yuuya: Are you okay? This is…
Real Solid Vision?
Did they activate it from outside?

Muscular Security mook: We’ve been searching the entire City since last night for you!
Be obedient and surrender!

Yuuya: Oh, come on! We’ve just got here!

Security mook #08: Enough chattering! Shut up and give yourself up!

SAWATARI-SAN: Hey, asshole!
Who do you think you are, telling people to shut up like that?
Do you know who I am?
I’m the Sawatari Shingo!

Yuuya: W-wait! Sawatari, hold on just a sec.

SAWATARI-SAN: You want to Duel me? Fine, bring it on!
I’m going to put you in your place!

Yuuya: W-wait! Sawatari!
H-Hey! Not you too, Serena!

SAWATARI-SAN: Action Field, On!

Duel Disk: Field Magic, Cross Over!

DUEL!

Yuuya: You’ve gotta be kidding me.

(Preview for episode 56)

Security mook: You’re under arrest for illegally breaking into the Tops’ residential area and assaulting the citizens!
Be obedient and give yourself up!

Yuuya: I didn’t do any of that!

Serena: So they’re the Duelists of the Synchro Dimension, huh?
I was expecting a situation like this, but…

SAWATARI-SAN: I’m going to put you all in your place!

Yuuya: W-wait! Hold on just a sec, everyone!
Next time on Yu-Gi-Oh Arc-V:
Security’s Perfect Encirclement!
The fun has just begun!

 • Duel Chaser uses Trudge.dek, except for new Goyo Synchros and that one new monster. K, nothing amazing about that. (tl;dr, Trudge was cooler)
 • Melissa Clair is either this dimension's Carly (although not as important right now) or that other one that nobody cares about due to minor role.
 • I assume that Roger (ARC-V Goodwin) told Security to assume that Yuya and co. are friends with Yugo and to arrest them.
 • On that note, appears after DC227 lost, he lost respect for said man.
 • Was expecting Speed Spells in this dimension; didn't see. So yeah, Speed World - Neo sucks.
 • Watching Yugo cream the DC was amazing, and then jumping over Security van.
 • Yugo gets more stuff.
